  1. Iraleia looked down at her work worn hands and sighed, Light this is hard, she thought, harder than I would have ever imagined and I’ve only been in the tower a week! She still didn’t know whether it was worse to have stayed at the orphanage and lived her life in fear and hate or to have come here to try and as she had done so far … fail. The only thing that she could do without fail was the chores. If nothing else I could become a washer woman or servant, she thought and for a brief second she was glad she was out of the orphanage.

As she approached the lecture room, she lowered her head to avoid eye contact with the other girls filing noisily into the room. As in every class she slid into the back hoping to remain out of sight, out of mind. No one had called on her yet and she would prefer if it remained that way! Again she looked down at her hands, resting on the desk in front of her and tried hard not to listen to the babble of the girls around her. She had never had friends and found it hard to be in a group situation such as this one. If someone tried to speak to her, she would open her mouth and nothing would come out. It was rather embarrassing and she found it easier to ignore them which caused a lot of rumours to circulate about her, of course none of which were true.

"It is good to see you all in my class." A seemingly disembodied voice spoke, echoing through the stone room, startling the girls to silence. Out of the shadows appeared a woman in a white dress banded with the colours of the Ajahs. An Accepted taking the class? Thought Iraleia slightly shocked. She had expected one of the Aes Sedai to be teaching them. This place is always full of surprises.

The young woman introduced herself as Nenen and the harsh lesson in Saidar began. She had thought that they would be learning how to use the source right away, instead they were lectured in the dangers of the One Power and warned against using it without supervision. That was a lesson Iraleia could follow, having never touched Saidar she had no idea what all the fuss was about.

The Accepted quickly pushed the subject aside and asked for them to bring out a pen and parchment. This was the part of the lesson Iraleia dreaded, she couldn’t read nor write but was expected to take notes. She was lucky that so far she had a fairly good memory and a lot of the information she had taken in and stored but there would come a time where she would need the basics and hoped Pia Sedai would remember to find her a tutor, else she would become the most illiterate Aes Sedai in history. She almost laughed at that, there was no way she was becoming Aes Sedai, she didn’t have it in her, she might have survived that evil orphanage but that was like sailing calm waters compared to the hardships of tower life.

Nenen’s voice whipped through her thoughts. "Throughout history," the girl said pausing, "there HAVE been Aes Sedai who have committed heinous crimes.  They have been stilled, purposely cut off from the True Source, and put outside the Shining Walls of Tar Valon.  Each of you now has a piece of paper."  Iraleia stared at the piece of paper as the lecture went on. She was expected to memorise the list and research the women upon it … LIGHT she couldn’t even READ it! Iraleia sighed and wondered if there was any way she could get herself out of this. Runaway? She thought, when a young voice cut through her thoughts. “Excuse me Accepted, I’d like to know if stilling can be practised on someone who does not want to become Aes Sedai? That way they would never be in danger to themselves or others” Iraleia thought this sounded like a very reasonable question and one she felt implied directly to her. Eager to hear the Accepted’s answer, she leaned forward slightly in her seat and soon regretted it, as the answer was not the one she was hoping for.

  2. LOL... also I think I'm late for posting in the intro to Saidar classes so I don't know if I'm still "allowed" to. I posted in the first but if the powers that be deem me to be waaay to late then they can delete it, otherwise let me know and I can keep adding to the classes. If it is deleted then I'm going to need an Aes Sedai to give me one-on-one in Saidar, perhaps we can combine the reading/writing with the Saidar... or whatever LOL...

  3. ...to teach Iraleia to read and write. She is completely illiterate and has had a little help in the tower but she is losing interest in her lectures due to the fact that she can't read or write. She needs this to boost her confidence, at the moment she believes she is a failure (though she is going to have some success in actually touching saidar in class which helps boost her self esteem a little). She will be a quick learner and will slowly come out of her shell. This will be part of her character development.

    Thanks in advance :)

  5. LOL

I hopes everyone had a great christmas! I got spoiled, I ended up with a sewing machine from the hubster, a few nick nacks from the inlaws and my lovely sis in law spoiled us (6 of us including herself) with tickets to AC/DC on the 18th of Feb so we'll be in Sydney for my birthday on the 19th  ;D

  6. Sorry for going MIA guys I've had the busiest time over christmas and it's had me stressed. No more relaxing for hubby and I over the holiday season anymore!

Hope you all had a great time, we went down to the beach and could only spend one out of the 4 days there because it rained for the majority of the time we were there. I can't complain though, we have come home to find out that we have had 5 inches! Needless to say everything is looking wet and our dams are pretty much full. Hopefully it also puts off hand feeding the stock for a bit longer!!

Anyway that's me. I have to go grocery shopping shortly so I better get myself and the girls ready.

  7. Iraleia was strangley calmed by the Aes Sedai's words. She wasn't expected to have complete knowledge and understanding, it was something that she would learn, though the learning was to be hard, she was sure. For the first time in a long time she felt something stir inside of herself, something that made her feel warm. It was hope. Hope for a better life than she would have led in the orphanage or on the streets of Caemlyn, hope for an education, hope for forming friendships and the hope for a bright future. With tears stinging her eyes she took the white dress offered her by Pia Sedai and listened to the rest of the words the Aes Sedai had to say. She was completely overwhelmed by the information the Aes Sedai gave her, but Pia Sedai patted her on the shoulder comfortingly. Iraleia knew it was going to be a long hard road for her to completely strip herself of her past, but it was something she knew she had to do.

When the Mistress of Novices opened the door into the corridor, Iraleia felt that some of the weight of the past had been lifted from her shoulders and she felt light, almost happy. Stepping into the hall past the Aes Sedai she turned toward the woman and curtsied. "Thank you Pia Sedai, for your help and allowing me to join the Tower to study. I hope I do not let you down." Looking up at the Mistress of Novices, Iraleia gave her a small smile.

  8. OK whatever you think sounds good to me. If you wanted to start I'll join in. I was hoping all the novices might be able to get together eventually, but when I don't know. Serey is approved and has posted her MoN thread.

  9. No probs, I was pretty excited myself when I found it! Now I know what Iraleia is capable of! Like I said I don't know if there are any new weaves that need to go on it, but it's really good. I likesy it...

  10. “Take a seat child. "Mayarin Sedai did send ahead word of your arrival."

Iraleia took a seat as directed and watched as the Mistress of Novices took out a heavy leather bound from her drawer and sat it upon the table almost lovingly. The Aes Sedai flicked through the pages with the utmost care and stopped at where Iraleia’s name would be recorded, perhaps to the end of time itself.

"And you say she tested you? Yes, I can sense it too. Aha."

Iraleia was taken aback at the Aes Sedai’s words and knew surprise showed upon her face.

"As you learn to channel, you will find you too can sense the ability in another channeler."

Iraleia nodded, not really understanding but hoping that the movement would bluff the woman in front of her into thinking that she did. After the Mistress of Novices dipped her pen, she again spoke explaining what the book was for and eventually asking for her particulars. After stumbling through them the Aes Sedai spoke the words that were to seal her to her fate in the tower…

"There. Be welcome at the White Tower, Novice Iraleia."

Iraleia was never a curious girl but she needed to ask questions. Softly she spoke, “Thank you Aes Sedai. Please tell me what will become of me from here, I surely don’t understand what it is I am supposed to do in the Tower and my reading and writing is far from being...good. I’m not really sure I can do whatever it is that you want me to do.” The last sentence was said with a whine and Iraleia shut her mouth, lest she should bring the Aes Sedai’s wrath down upon herself. Looking down and wringing her hands in her lap she waited for a tirade but when none was forthcoming she lifted her head and finally looked the Aes Sedai in the eyes. “I – I’m sorry Aes Sedai.”
