Just when you thought there would be no more Wheel of Time news with the show being canceled, the Wheel turns and surprises show up!

Just announced on IGN, Dire Wolf has revealed that a Kickstarter is coming soon! Dire Wolf is the creator and publisher of award-winning digital and tabletop strategy games, including the acclaimed games Dune: Imperium and Clank!, among others.

War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time will be a tabletop game set in the world we've come to know and love. From their page:

Quote

"War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time combines tableau building, set collection, and area control mechanics in a thrilling struggle of conquest and survival.

There are two ways to fight the War of the Dragon: Hero Mode, recommended for new players, and Epic Mode, where you take control of massive armies.

Both game modes span the years from The Battle of the Two Rivers, depicted in The Shadow Rising, through the cataclysmic events of The Last Battle that decide the fate of the world."

There will be two options — one with cardboard standees and one with impressive-looking miniatures. The miniatures will come unpainted so you can ensure that Mat Cauthon has the perfect shade of green for his coat, just how you've always pictured it.

Additionally, if you sign up for the campaign before launch, you can receive two free promo cards. To make sure your party is complete, Hopper and Bela are available to keep you company with your pledge.

We at Dragonmount connected with Sarah Nakamura, who was excited to share this message with us:

Quote

"Fans can tell the difference between a product and a labor of love — this is the latter. Scott, Joe, and the Dire Wolf team approached Robert Jordan's world the way it deserves to be approached, with lots of reading and real affection for the details. From Bela and Hopper, to the deep cuts for character cards, to the board itself, every piece of this game reflects people who care fervently about the books. That's the kind of work I came into this role to champion."

It's wonderful to hear that this is coming to fruition and being made by people who are so passionate about The Wheel of Time, its community, and the excitement it's sure to bring.

What are you most excited about? I know I can't wait to dig through each card and find all the deep cuts sprinkled throughout.

What do y'all think these phrases imply?
"set collection"
"Follow the campaign on Kickstarter and sign up below to get free copies of everyone’s favorite Ally cards"
Is there a collectible card game element, and you can only play with the cards you own?

Are there expansion packs to be able to play through the whole storyline?

How do you later get Bela if you don't do the "The Dragon Reborn pledge tier", or what would it mean to play this game without the main character??? ;)

From what I understand, and I'm hoping to get more information too, is that there is a collectible side of the card game that if it's successful, there will be expansion packs with more cards. But the main core part of the game will include the cards you need to play "flash" campaigns (shorter ones) or the longer multiple plot point games. I'm unsure what the future options are and I'm sure they're still working on the specifics, but I also am not sure if you'll be able to get Bela and Hopper if you don't do the pledge tier, but it might be an option in the future?
