Snakes and Spears

Settings: Cairhien shortly after the rebellion is crushed

Divisions involved: Aiel and White Tower

After the Rebellion is over with, things seem to have returned to normal. Or so it seems …

Scene 1. A proposal from the White Tower is received via one of the Dragonsworn sisters. It is a proposal for a meeting between the White Tower and the Aiel so important matters for both sides can be discussed and solved. The proposal is accepted and a message is sent back to the Tower.

Scene 2. A party of Aes Sedai arrives at the Sun Palace, to lead the negations. The Aiel are presented by the Clan Chief and Head Wise One. After the Aes Sedai have rested well the negotiations start with both parties presenting their demands.

Scene 3. The following agreements are reached:

1. All Dragonsworn sisters who wish to return to the White Tower are free to do so, some of the da’tsang are released too, while some remain with the Aiel

2. The White Tower takes on the responsibility to punish the responsible for the kidnapping of the Car’a’carn and Dumai Wells accordingly.

3. A Non aggression pact is signed between the Aiel and White Tower.

4. The White Tower expresses clearly it’s disapproval of recent Aiel activity in Cairhien, as well as past activities in Tear. However there is not any progress made on these talk so they are left open for future negotiations.

5. On decision of the Clan Chief and Head Wise One, the two reveal the history of the Aiel to one Aes Sedai as they swore her to secrecy about it. In order to meet the Aiel debt to the Aes Sedai of old times, the Aiel suggest returning all power related objects in Rhuidean to the Aes Sedai, in return for a promise that the Aes Sedai will not recruit Aiel girls who can channel. The Aiel will deliver the angreals, sa’angreals and ter’angreals to Tar Valon as the refuse to let Aes Sedai in Rhuidean.

Scene 4. With the negotiations over and perhaps happy from the results the White Tower party returns to Tar Valon with all Dragonsworn sisters who wished to return and some of the da’tsang

Scene 5. Soon a caravan arrives at the gate of Tar Valon with Aiel escort, as agreed upon the Aiel deliver all the power related objects from Rhuidean. In return they receive a document signed by the Amyrlin and the Hold that the White Tower will not recruit Aiel girls for trainingEdit - this scene has been changed per Incarn request - instead a small party of Aiel will journey to TV and deliver five "token" items of Power to the Ammy, to seal the bargain. The wagons with the "stash" will require a year IC (from the start of the rp) to journey to the Tower. Items of power to be listed at a later date after Incarn approval.

Wetlanders and Sandlovers

Setting: Aiel are in control of Cairhien, and are cracking down on the lawbreakers. The two families that control eastern Cairhien are slowly being chipped away and in an effort to survive ally themselves with the Rogues who control western Cairhien. Ever since the occupation, Aiel have been attempting to enforce law and order, but are being frustrated by the elusiveness of their quarry and only making small progress.

This is about to change.

Scene 1: A group of thugs are about to storm a merchant’s shop during the night and wreck it as an example to those who don’t pay their tithe to the Rogues Guild. As they move to deliver their message to the merchant and the nearby businesses, the group is ambushed by Aiel, a couple of survivours taken away for interrogation. Aiel talk about the current situation in their attempts to impose order on a lawless city.

Scene 2: James Sene’val sits in council with a several of his most trusted lieutenants. They are discussing the current situation, and ways of dealing with the Aiel. Some are in favour of just ignoring the Aiel quietly and continuing their operations despite the losses, others advocate a more direct approach of taking the fight to the enemy motivated either by profit or patriotism. Discussions are interrupted when news arrives of one of their smugglers of Sharan silk being captured and the rest executed. The council decides that the time has come to strike back, beginning with the recovery of the smuggler.

Scene 3: A party of Red Shields about fifteen strong are escorting their newest prisoner, a smuggler, towards the east through foregate to be taken for interrogation. A lone figure standing in the street seems to be standing there, waiting for them with a stave in hand. Before the Aiel can act on their suspicions, crossbow bolts take down the majority of them, leaving a few left who charge forward to meet the man who is walking towards them.

Taking them apart quickly, James claims the last one as a prisoner. A couple of men similarly disguised are called to help and the prisoner is taken into a nearby alley. The man is given a message to give to the Aiel, that they are unwelcome and will no longer be tolerated in Cairhien. The man’s eyes are then put out, his nose cut off, and he is taken away to be let loose in the general direction of the Aiel encampments.

Scene 4: The messenger is picked up by a patrol of Aiel at dawn who then bring the man in immediately for treatment. As the Wise Ones tend to his debilitating wounds, the man gives the message he was told to deliver to the Wise One and attending Aiel leaders who have come to see what has occurred.

The Aiel speak of the problem, and make new strategies to help deal with the threat that has begun to raise its head.

Scene 5: While most of the spies disappear along with the patrols lost over a week, several do make it back as well as some patrols newly alert managing to survive. Three dens are identified; A brothel, a gambling den and a warehouse. The last of which is where the scene unfolds.

As the Aiel approach, a beggar that see’s them gives a startled shout at having Aiel appear out of nowhere and runs, the noise giving warning to those inside the warehouse, about thirty strong. They’re arming themselves as the Aiel storm in, a few people on either side drop from bolts and arrows before the two sides meet.

A few manage to win free of the fight and escape to the dock. Those few save one are taken down by Aiel bowmen, and that one shoves off the dock and begins to row away. One of the Aiel leaps onto the boat despite the water and the two struggle, the smuggler managing to gain the upperhand as the Aiel isn’t used to the rocking motion of the boat. Fighting over a knife, the smuggler is on top and slowly pushing the blade down when one of the Aiel bowmen kills him with a well placed shaft.

A couple of the wounded are claimed prisoner, but not before the head of the operation who was amongst the prisoners manages to poison himself before he can be interrogated by the arriving wise ones.

Scene 6: A gleeman that approached from the south made his home amongst the Aiel for a few days spreading merriment and telling many a tale in exchange for their hospitality. The last night he is there (night after scene five), he speaks with different Aiel and entertains as usual. The following morning, a horrifying amount of Aiel are found dead in their tents, passed away while they slept from poison that was released into the air when tampered firewood was burnt.

One of the channeling wise ones is discovered dead in her tent, body mutilated and a message scrawled on the floor with a second warning. All outsiders are banned from the encampment, and any other gleeman or the like currently sojourning with the Aiel are kicked out. Descriptions of the false gleeman are passed about.

Scene 7: The Aiel swarm the city of Cairhien, rounding up any single person who matches the description of the false gleeman. They raid everything they can find, and perhaps as many as a hundred men are rounded up in a square. People who saw the gleeman and are still alive come forward to try and identify the poisoner.

Might execute one as falsely accused, or just dismiss them all, either way it scares the hell out of Cairhien. James will avoid the Aiel search and remain in the shadows.

Scene 8: The interrogations also yielded information about a highly placed smuggler. Seizing him within the day, the Aiel soon have information of a number of important centres for the Rogues and those centres are hit during the night. A lot of corpses are found by the morning, and the repeated raids by Aiel in the city to what the normal seems ‘random’ has caused a great deal of unrest.

The Rogue response materialised in the morning in a plan that had been set in motion several days prior. A riverboat loaded with crossbowmen and bowmen that are either Rogues or hired mercaneries move up the river towards Cairhien. As they pass a large group of Gai’shain and Aiel, they open fire as they pass, slaughtering the better part of the group on the riverside.

News reaches the main Aiel encampment of the massacre of Gai’shain and a large detachment of Aiel is dispatched to the Cairhien docks to ambush the ship as it lands. These Aiel walk into an ambush that was prepared in anticipation to an Aiel response and while the Rogues sustain losses they are victorious with the few remaining Aiel running to report the loss.

Scene 9: The ambush is part of a larger movement, all around the city Aiel are being ambushed in the day. Not only are Rogues fighting, but revolutionary groups with a common hatred for the Aiel and not only incensed with the Aiel’s raids into the city but emboldened by the successes of what they believe to be other insurgent groups commit in the open. As the chaos spreads, quite a number of the commoners and even some of the nobles seeing an opportunity to seize Cairhien back join the battle.

The result is a city in revolt, a revolt that is to be subdued by the Aiel as they commit greater forces to the city to restore order. The battle is one fought on the streets and alleyways, and restoring order proves difficult in house to house, street to street fighting.

During the middle of it, James leads an attack on the Aiel leadership and elite in an ambush designed to behead the Aiel forces. The engagement results in heavy losses on both sides, Council members of the Rogues and Society leaders, James himself falls in the fighting, the last few Rogues running at his fall as they can.

Scene 10: The fighting goes on long into the night as resistance is broken and the last of the insurgents are hunted down. The next day is a grim sight as the carnage is revealed in the dawn. The Rogues guild with the majority of its leadership and membership is shattered, though some of the remnants are absorbed into remaining resistance groups that continue the fight by occasionally ambushing Aiel patrols and evading detection as best they can.

The day becomes known simply as Day of Black Veils, to signify the shoufa that the Aiel wear and the mark of mourning for those slain on the day.
