Welcome to this month's edition of the Hornsounder!

The Hornsounder is back again, and there have been several events happening in the Band this month.  Unfortunately our EiC had to bow out again, but we're still going to deliver your news in grand fashion!

As we continue to push forward in our quest for bringing you all the latest news, we face some changes.  We have new pieces coming in and we've had some change in personnel.  We had one major loss this month as Lady Stefania had to leave.  We in the Hornsounder wish her well with everything!  Also continuing its comeback this month is the Caption the Picture Competition.  Paladin DJ has continued this newly revived competition and I've got to tell you, that picture is going to make people laugh and I can't wait to see the captions that come into play!  If you like making funny comments about a picture, be sure to check that out!

This month saw a bit of a slow down on the news we brought you.  There are still plenty of stories, but we will be bringing you even more stories next month!

Grab yourself a drink, sit back with a snack and your feet up and enjoy this month's edition of The Hornsounder.

Paladin Jon the Direwolf,

Senior Editor

JoTS Winner of the Month

This month's topic was: The Archer Regiment.

And the winner: Sir Manny of the Cavalry

Congratulations, Sir Manny :)

The winning JoTS:

The Archers Deadly Tights

They're deadly in their matching tights

But that tends to get them into fights

Beware or they'll put out yer lights

Then dance with Jack o' th' Shadows

So stealthy you'll hear ne'r a foot crunch

It's those matching tights, but thats just a hunch

And they look swell when they go for brunch

And they dance with Jack o' th' Shadows

Word from the M-G

(by Corki)

Firstly, an apology to everyone for not submitting anything last month. It was not a good time for me, as I was sitting for my last year exams at university. As a result, my revision and work was far more important. The exams seemed to go well, but I now have the joy of waiting for my results. I will find out early in June, and I am hoping to get the results I want. It will make my life a lot easier in the future as well.

As a result, this article will cover what interesting and exciting activities have been going on in the Band in the last couple of months.

Battle of the Bands

Over the last four weeks, sixteen different music genres have been selected, and each Regiment has sent forth a champion as the Band of the Red Hand hosts the Battle of the Bands. The sixteen winners of each category go into the Grand Final, and from this, the overall winner will be found. It is open to everyone, and an additional report will follow with the latest goings on.

Eurovision Song Contest Week

Europe recently saw the Eurovision Song Contest, an annual affair of music, comedy and what some call political voting. The Band of the Red Hand hosted a Eurovision week. The winning song, Believe by Dima Bilan, is the current song in "Tune or No Tune" thread, and we are also seeing what everyone thought was their favourite songs. Links are below.

Tune or No Tune - Believe by Dima Bilan

Eurovision Song Contest - BotRH and DM vote

Regimental Competitions

The "Secret Messages" competition in March was won by the Cavalry, who got 313 points. The Archers came 2nd with 302, and the Infantry were third, with 293 points. April was a festival of Games, which was won by the Infantry. The Cavalry were second, and the Archers third. We are currently in a two month Scavanger Hunt, going across the world in trivia, music and travel. Results will be published next month.

Tune or No Tune

Each week, I pick a song and put it in a simple poll. All you need to do is determine whether you think the song is a "tune" (i.e. you love it) or "no tune" (i.e. you hate it). It is quite simple, and more information follows in an additional article.

Desert Island Disks

The interview thread called the Desert Island Disks – BotRH Style is still going, as we find out more about Banders and in the future, DMers. It is a simple interview between two people, talking about anything and everything, coupled with some of the interviewee’s favourite music. North Star finished her interview of BridMorgan, who is currently chatting to our resident gleeman, Myndrunner. I'm sure that will be a lot of fun!

Rhuidean - Survivor

Currently 15 Banders have been chosen for Rhuidean - Survivor, which is being hosted by the Aiel. Many thanks for that! There are three tribes, and various activities will be being held over the summer. But who will emerge victorious?

The Return of The Quest

After a few years of being absent, the much loved Quest is returning to the Band. And we have a new Quest Master. So congratulations to Kara_J, and her new assistant, Goldeneys. We all look forward to the glory days of The Quest under your secure hands.

That is a lot of things going on in the Band of the Red Hand at the moment - and a lot of things that are open to everyone at DM. We have a lot of activities to come in the future, including Band Idol, which will hopefully be touring DM, so stay tuned and feel free to get involved.

Why Join the BotRH?

So, having read some of the activities the Band gets up to, you want to know more about the ORG? One of the ORG's focus is music, and the Band's other focus is travel. Banders are regularly writing reviews about any music album they own, whether it be old or new, as well as any gigs and concerts they have been to and various locations around the world they've visited. Responses to these reviews are encouraged, which gives Banders points, and these points allow for promotion through the many ranks in the Band. This is the basis of the ORG.

When you first join up with the Band of the Red Hand, you become a Raw Recruit. During this time, you experience life with each of the three Regiment (Archers, Cavalry, Infantry) and the Band itself as well so you get to know how the ORG works, and you don't get lost in your early days in the Band. After your three weeks of completing various tasks as a Recruit, you then pick the Regiment you wish to join and thus become a fully fledged member of the Band of the Red Hand. Also, once you picked your Regiment, you will be guided to become an Infantry Blademaster or a Knight of the Cavalry or an Assassin within the Archers.

However, the Band is not all about work. We have many fun activities going on within the ORG, ranging from simple word games to our ORG Game, created by Canis Rufus with the help of Mallett. Everything is based on the luck of rolling dice, so build up your stats to give yourself the chance of getting better rolls! Once you've taken the seven easy lessons, you can then challenge any Bander to a duel in the Arena and bring great glories to your name! Look out for Festivals of Games as another way to bring glory to your name! We are the only ORG to gamble as well, so create a Bank Account and join in the Lottery to earn some big winnings just like Mat!

As you can see, the Band is a place with a variety of activities, hopefully catering for everyone's needs. There are various activities for those who want points to go up the ranks, or fun and games for those who want to socialise. The Band is open to everyone, so come and join the fun at the best ORG at DM!

Tune or No Tune" - The Lastest News

(by Corki)

As mentioned in the review of the month, there is a weekly thread called "Tune or No Tune". It is a simple poll thread where Corki (or a member of the Senior Staff if Corki is on a LoA) choose a song and everyone decides whether it is a TUNE (i.e. you love it) or NO TUNE (i.e. you hate it).

There have so far been seven threads, with four Tunes, two No Tunes, and one tie. Below are the results of the seven threads. the figures in brackets refer to the votes, with the first being the number who voted the song a "Tune".

31st March 2008: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen --> TUNE (15-0)

14th April 2008: All Good Things by Nelly Furtado --> NO TUNE (3-7)

21st April 2008: Waterloo Sunset by The Kinks --> TUNE (6-4)

28th April 2008: Africa by Toto --> TUNE (8-3)

5th May 2008: Cafe Del Mar by Energy 52 --> NO TUNE (4-8)

12th May 2008: Space Oddity by David Bowie --> TUNE (13-0)

19th May 2008: Jersey Girl by Bruce Springsteen --> Tie (2-2)

The current song up in "Tune or No Tune" is the winning entry from the Eurovision Song Contest 2008. And that is Believe by Dima Bilan of Russia. Below is the link to the song. Feel free to get involved in this extremely simple thread.

Battle of the Bands - The Latest News

(by Corki)

As mentioned in previous editions, the Band of the Red Hand ORG is hosting a competition called the Battle of the Bands as we attempt to find the best Band or singer or musician from a variety of genres. In total, there are 16 different genres. Each of the three Regiments in the Band - the Archers, the Cavalry and the Infantry - have all nominated someone who they are championing. Then, for one week, two genres are picked from the 16 and the Band and DMers determine who they want to go through to the Grand Final. The Grand Final will be a simple knockout, until we are left with our champion. It's that simple. And to get involved, all you need to do is find the latest threads (links provided below or check out the Band of the Red Hand ORG public boards) and post who you want to win.

So far, 6 genres have been completed. Below are the results:

Bander's Real Life Stories

(compiled by Climhazzard)

Hello Banders! Here we have those true life stories sent in. This month we see how the school semester has ended for a couple of us, an injury update, a couple of birthdays to be celebrated along with an anniversary, and a humorous true story from JR. And don't forget for a an easy ORG Point submit your RL stories!!!!

Another Semester Down

(by Paladin Jon the Direwolf)

As May draws to an end, it normally signals the end of the semester for colleges in America. For me, it was the end of the second semester of my Masters Program. However, it wasn't just any normal semester.

The beginning of my semester started with a 10 week internship of an accounting firm in my town. During this time I got to perform audits, prepare tax returns, and of course, write three papers for class. All in all, a great experience!

There was one drawback to my internship though, it meant that my other two classes would be shortened to 7 weeks. How is that a bad thing you ask? Well, in 7 weeks, we covered the same amount of material that a class would complete over a normal 16 week semester. We had the same amount of assignments and we had to do them all in less time.

I really surprised myself this semester and I pulled off a 4.0 GPA, the highest possible, even with such a rigorous schedule. It just goes to show that hard work pays off and now I can't wait to put more classes behind me and finish off my degree!

Couple of pieces of news this month.

(by Taymist)

First up was a double birthday on 10th May. The first was for our oldest daughter, Mary, who turned 18 and was taken out for her first "legal" drink at our local pub lol before being rushed off to a party with her friends. The other was my kitty, Corrie Dubh, who was 2 years old on the same day. Can't believe how big he is and still not full grown. :-X

Second, my parents celebrate their 32nd wedding anniversary this Saturday, 24th May. Given that it was a second marriage for both of them, I think that's quite special and they really restore my faith in the whole idea. So my congrats and love go out to them.

Last, but not least, sending much love to my brother, Stuart, who is out in China. We were worried about him recently after the earthquake there but it turns out he's a long way from where the epicentre was and is perfectly fine other than feeling a few of the aftershocks. Looking forward to having him home this summer for a few weeks. :D

Everything's AOK!

(by Climhazzard)

Today May 21st, I had my knee surgery and it was successful. The good news is nothing was torn, but there was some scar tissue from a previous injury that was cleaned up and the inflammation was really severe, so some of that was removed. And my friend who had back surgery at the beginning of May is recovering very quickly. He's no longer walking around like a man 3 times his age. And I've also completed my first semester of school in a few years. This being my third attempt at post secondary education. I earned an A in English and a B in math for a 3.5 GPA which I'm happy with. I did miss a bit of school due to my knee injury. But everything is looking really good for me. Now the healing process kicks in and I hope to be at full strength again in a couple of weeks. I want to say thank you to everyone for their support, I greatly appreciate it.

Specific stories or updates?

(by JR)

I got a funny one about a service call. We got paged out for a Service Call (lifting assistance) at this elderly lady's house. Me being a Cadet, I had to stand outside until they called for help. They were in the house for about thirty minutes before I hear someone inside shout "What the hell?!" And I come running up to the door to make sure everything was ok. Turns out two of the older guy's there had been taking information when all the sudden the lady decided to strip. The third younger guy was outside the room making her a glass of water. The first two guys kept silent and looked away but the third guy walked in on her and was so surprised that he dropped the glass and yelled. Long story short, she got mad, and we are going to laugh at him for the rest of his natural life.

The Org Game Update

(by Snin)

Here is a quick rundown of events so far this year at the arena with the Organization Game. There have been 37 matches completed so far this year, with Direwolf Jon and Jeannaisais leading the pack with six wins apiece. Direwolf Jon is running away in the overall standings with an amazing undefeated season thus far. The titans of the Game have been relatively quiet this year, with Manriva, Taymist and Footman finishing just a few matches between them. Several rookies have started their quest toward titanism this year, with Snin, Samuraiflip, Thewindsoftime, and el Nyn completing the bulk of the games completed this year. Snin had a rough start at the beginning of his Game career, but has started to come around with 5 great wins this month. Below is the rundown of past events, current games, and standing records this year. Let’s see ‘em.

(A graphic of recent records is shown)

Direwolf Jon defeats: Jeannaisais, Kastchei, Snin twice, Climhazzard, and Froix

Jeannaisais defeats: MG Corki, Snin three times, Climhazzard, and el Nynaeve

MG Corki defeats: North Star, Uasal Arach, and Horus

Uasal defeats: Jeannaisais twice, and Climhazzard

Footman defeats: Mystica, and Taymist

Taymist defeats: Kastchei

Kastchei defeats: Climhazzard twice, and Snin

North Star defeats: Amavia, and Froix

Manriva defeats: Uasal Arach

Snin defeats: el Nynaeve twice, Climhazzard twice, and Jeannaisais

Climhazzard defeats: Thewindsoftime twice

el Nynaeve defeats: Climhazzard twice

Bridmorgan defeats: Snin

Currently, there are an astounding eleven matches that are underway. Climhazzard and el Nynaeve are participating in a remarkable four of them each. Yes everyone, the competition is tensing up out there with all of these games going on. The younger players are diving headfirst into The Game and coming out in the end better and wiser. So, if some of you more seasoned players don’t bust out those weapons and get the dust off of ‘em, you’re going to find that you are no longer at the top of the food chain, so to speak.  So here they are, the current matches going on right now.

(Current matches shown in another graphic)

el Nynaeve vs. Snin ~The Generals Rematch~

Climhazzard vs. el Nynaeve

Climhazzard vs. Jeannaisais ~Rematch~

The Samurai vs. The Pirate (Climhazzard vs. Manriva)

MG Corki vs. Sir Manriva ~Apocalypse Now!

Samuraiflip vs. el Nynaeve

Uasal Arach vs. Snin

Between a Foot and a Wolf (Footman vs. Direwolf Jon)

Bandeds, Brussel Sprouts & Brownies, Oh My!! (Taymist vs. Kastchei)

el Nynaeve vs. Direwolf Jon

Direwolf Jon vs. Bridmorgan~~Battle of the Engaged

The standings for the year are shown here. It’s still anyone’s game for the best record by the end of the year.

(Standings in yet another)

Direwolf Jon (6-0)

Jeannaisais (6-4)

Snin (5-7)

MG Corki (3-1)

Uasal Arach (3-2)

Kastchei (3-2)

North Star (2-1)

Footman (2-0)

el Nynaeve (2-3)

Climhazzard (2-9)

Taymist (1-1)

Manriva (1-0)

Bridmorgan (1-0)

Froix (0-2)

Thewindsoftime (0-2)

Horus (0-1)

Mystica (0-1)

Amavia (0-1)

Yes, it’s been a busy season this year, and this past month was very busy with 18, which is near half of the total matches for the year, matches finishing since that last report. Snin and Climhazzard have been keeping busy with eight matches apiece being completed for each of them. The competition is hot, with matches between el Nynaeve and Snin, and Climhazzard and Snin coming down to whoever lands the last hit that determines the winner. So, get on over to The Organization Game and immerse yourself in the fun and competition that is there.

News From The Range!

(by El Nyn)

Another month has come and gone in the Archer's Range and what an exciting month it's been. New staff, awards, promotions and spotfines abounded as our various members got busy with many various tasks and er, lawbreaking. So what exactly have we all been up to that keeps us so busy?

New Term, New Leadership

As you may or may not know, our long-standing Captain General Sora Jeannaisais decided to stand down from her position due to RL commitments. Her excellent leadership will be missed, but she has assured us that she'll be around to lend a hand if need be. The fearless Archer who has stepped up to keep this bunch of spammy misfits in line is el Nynaeve, after only a mere two and half months with the Band. Dragonlover and Snin have both agreed to serve as Lieutenant-General and Banner-General and help keep things running smoothly. Snin and Samuraiflip will continue on as our Regimental Liason Officers and Redarms, whom we hope will stay corruption free, are Amavia, Sora Jeannaisais and Samuraiflip.

New Archers

The Archers are pleased to welcome a new addition to our ranks this month. Moghedian joined us around the beginning of the month after successfully completing her Raw Recruit time. We are so happy that she has chosen to join our growing regiment and look forward to getting to know her even better.

Archer of the Month

The onset of May heralded the end of April and also the time to hand out our newly instated Archer of the Month award. This award rewards outstanding diligence and continual activity and commitment to the regiment. The previous three recipients of the award are Sora Jeannaisais in January and Snin in both February and March.

April's award was a close fought race once again, with a number of Archers competing to earn enough Arrows to claim the prize. We are happy to announce that for the third straight month, Snin has walked away with Archer of the Month. Well done to you Snin for all your dedication and hard work. Now someone needs to give him some competition next month.

Promotions

May was a quieter month than April, but we do have some promotions to share with you this month.

May 1:

From Under-Lieutenant to Lieutenant

Lt. snin83 of the Archers

Promotions May 15:

From MSgt to Under-Lieutenant

Udr. Lt. Samuraiflip of the Archers

From RR to Private FC

PFC Moghedian of the Archers

Archer's RLO Business

It has been an extremely busy month for our RLO's this month with four new recruits passing through our Range. First we had the whirlwind that is Myndrunner visit us in our abode. Even we had a hard time keeping up with him as he wrote out his two JotS verses on archery and kept us all enthralled with his stories and his drinks in the Patchwork Bar & Grill. He made sure that none of us is likely to forget him soon! Next up was eol, who provided some excellent feedback on an album in a review response and will soon be interviewing one of us lucky Archers and serving us up some tasty drinks in the Gasoline Alley bar. Still going through her Raw Recruit time is Naeann. She will also be providing feedback in one of our many review threads. It will also be her job to advise and provide us with holiday destinations in a new travel agency and dish out the brew we all crave so much at the Flaming Shots Pub. Here's hoping that next month sees us as entertained and well watered as we have been this month.

Regimental Competition

(by Snin)

Well, here we are again, another month gone by, but the competition between the regiments is still hot.  Last month, we left you all hanging with the final results of the Bel Tine games as yet to be determined.  Several Archers showed there skills and dedication by advancing to the finals and even placing in two of the events, despite being clear underdogs.  One of our own RA’s, Samuraiflip, took the bronze metal in the Infantry competition of the Caber Toss.  It was a close race with all of them, but Sam represented the Archers with pride and brought home the medal.  Our former Captain-General, Jeannaissais, took home the silver medal in the horse race, proving that the Cavs are not the only ones that can handle those lumbering beasts.  Unfortunately, those were not the only medals that the Archers brought home with them.  That’s right, their strongest participant, Snin, had such a fantastic showing, that he brought home the distinguished, and first, as it was created due to his lack of ability at anything, Most Likely to Fall on their Sword award.  Kudos to you, Snin, for being an absolute disgrace to The Game.

Moving on to more recent events, the current Regimental Competition is underway, testing the regiments on their knowledge of the world and its history.  Thus far, we have learned more about Europe, South America, and Africa than we all really ever wanted to know.  The first week saw some tight competition between all of the regiments, with the Archers just nearly tied with the Cavs, and the Infants just out in front.  But, as we have all seen in the past, opening scores mean nothing in the overall scheme of things as there are still a lot of points to get and lose out on.  Hopefully, come this time next month, we will be reporting that we have the competition on lockdown, but to that only time will tell.  Until then, CHEERS.

Range Redarm Business

The Range was full of lawbreaker's this month compared the quiet of last month. Snin was the first to fall prey to the temptation to make mischief, spilling brew in the Broken Arrow Tavern. This little misdeed has been challenged on the grounds the blank lines don't actually constitute brew. The Cav's Bridmorgan paid us a visit to welcome our newest Archer, but along with Amavia, assaulted a superior officer and an RA with Jello. Our very own RA, Samuraiflip issued them with the most amusing spotfine we've seen this month, so well done Sam for your entertaining creativity. Next yours truly, the Archer's own Captain-General el Nynaeve was caught stealing MG Brew from Corki's back pocket. *looks sheepish at the thought of being caught*. Amavia paid a visit to the Barracks and was nailed by JR for assaulting the Band in general by naming all four Teletubbies. She has challenged this and her trial is still in progress.

The Journey to Assassin

The Archer's Journey to Assassin is achieved by completing tasks as an Apprentice first and then as a Journeyman or Journeywoman. We have had our newest archer, Moghedian begin her journey. Other archers journey status is:

Apprentices:  .Amavia, Samuraiflip, Corki (MG), Iron Monk, Tharengore, Barracuda, and Moghedian

Journeyman/woman:  Dragonlover, and Alishandra

This month has been a very good as we have not one, but two archers who have achieved the rank of Assassin.

First to complete his journey was Snin, through hard work achieved this after a short couple of months with the Band. He now takes the title of Frato and has chosen to join the Assassin Brotherhood of the Lily.

The next to finish the journey was the Archer's Captain-General, el Nynaeve. Through swift work and dedication, she finished shortly after Snin. She takes the title of Sora and has chosen to join the Assassin Brotherhood of the Rose.

Congratulations to both Snin and el Nynaeve on achieving this honour.

And that's all we have from the Range for this month!

From the Horse’s Mouth ~ News of the Cavalry!

(By Paladin Uasal)

Greetings from the Yard!!

Jousting Arena

(by Diamondmask)

RR Myndrunner vs Paladin Uasal

RR Myndrunner 0 - Paladin Uasal 0

This was an evening event, the stadium filled with light by the extra torches placed around the stadium my Paladin DJ – the Master of Ceremonies for the joust. It was an unusual competition for more that just that – the raw recruit had borrowed for this competition a mule called Petunia and while most irregular in no way contravened the rules.

Paladin Uasal kicks off the first round by testing the raw recruit – and his mule – by demanding to know who were Perrin’s Hawk and Falcon? RR Myndrunner manages to avoid the Paladin’s lance as his mule shied away time from the danger with “Berelain and Faile”. Having survived so far, both Myndrunner and his mule get ‘bit between their teeth’ and charge at the mighty Uasal with “What was Min's vision about Sheriam? (TFoH)?” A very fine pass indeed – but Paladin Uasal is an old hand at the jousts and was able to turn aside the raw recruit’s lance with “Min saw rays of silver and blue flashed about her fiery hair, and a soft golden light but she didn't know what it meant.”

Now both warriors were neck and neck in the points table, Paladin Uasal taking ‘encouragement’ from his banded, charges at the game recruit with devastating speed “who is the first Maiden of the Spear?” Once again the wily mule dances his master out of danger with Myndrunner calling “Morin”. The truely unique partnership between man and mule is demonstrated as the raw recruit attacks the Paladin with “What was Robert Jordan called during his first year of college, what they called all novices there?” At this point the crowd cheer on this exhilarating if not unusual contest waiting to see if Paladin Uasal can withstand this charge when the Knight deflected the attempt calling out that first year students the Citadel were called knobs.

Now we moved into the 3rd and final round, both men determined to win. The hero of the Arthurian Order, thundered at Myndrunner "In the Wolf Dream where does Perrin chase the Slayer to?" But swaying out of the way in the nick of time with “The Tower of Genji” Mynddy and Petunia managed to survive yet again. Both adversaries turn to face each other in one final assault. The mettlesome Myndrunner spurred on his ‘mount’ at Uasal, clearly putting everything he had into this final effort to win “What unique trick had Moiraine learned using the power before she became a Novice of the White Tower?" Only by leaning far back in the saddle did Paladin Uasal avoid the strike with “Moiraine learned to eavesdrop on peoples conversations using her blue stone to concentrate and focus.

A truly memorable competition with both gentlemen showing a great degree of bravery and ingenuity.

RR Moghedian vs Paladin DJ

RR Moghedian 0 – Paladin DJ - 1

This contest had the crowd jumping up and down, waving runts in the air and this reporter noted that the recruiters were very impressed by RR Moghedian. However, the sun shone for Paladin DJ on this occasion, but RR Moghedian gave him quite a run for his money.

Paladin DJ got off to an aggressive start with a demand for the meaning of Lanfear’s name but our raw recruit was ready for him and deflected his lance adroitly with “Daughter of the Night!”

RR Moghedian decided to give the Old Wolf a taste of his own medicine with an exceptional charge of “which Forsaken turned to The Shadow because they were jealous of LTT?” The crowd cheered sensing an excellent contest here …

DJ is an old campaigner and managed to get his shield up at the last minute with the answer – “Demandred!” Paladin DJ thundered Storm Dancer at Moghedian and Fainne “what name does Siuan use when she, Min and Leane are tried by Gareth Bryne for burning down the barn?” Unable to defend herself in time, Paladin DJ’s lance found it’s mark and clanged against her armor.

With fresh lances, our heroes galloped at each other, Moghedian determined to score against the Wily Wolf with “what is the name of the Aes Sedai that Semirhage tortured at the start of Lord of Chaos??” Paladin DJ’s defence was sorely tested but managed to callout “Cabriana Mecandes” – with less then his usual confidence.

As Paladin DJ hefted his final lance, he eyed his opponent with respect. Balancing his lance he begins his final pass – “who wrote The way of Light?” Surely an unstoppable attack!!!! At that point coke and runts went flying in the air as the crowd cheered. RR Moghedian answered his charge with “Lothair Montelar” – a phenomenal save indeed.

The final chance to score put both combatants on edge, each spurred their mounts at each other “how many ages are there in The Wheel of Time?” shouted the mighty Moghedian. Experience showed as the Paladin deflected Moggies lance with the answer “ seven”. Both contestants removed their gauntlets and helmets and shook hands, having thoroughly enjoyed the match, while the crowd cheered.

(by Climhazzard)

Welcome to this month's edition of Infantry Row! The Infantry has seen several changes this month, first and foremost, with Demon being on LOA, I Climhazzard have become the Section Reporter for the Infantry. Wish me luck as I have some huge shoes to fill. We have also seen the return of a phantom, staff for the new term, and one of our own earning the title of Blademaster! So let's get started!

First off I would like to introduce the Staff for the May/June term. This is a hard working group and we hope to do the ones that have come before us proud.

Climhazzard

From Master Sergeant to Under Lieutenant

Zeth Alley

It is with great pride that this next story is told with. Our own Kara J, on May 2nd was summoned before the Guild of Blades and earned the title of Blademaster. Kara then chose her new name...Blademaster Bellona. Join me in wishing the most sincerest congratulations to one of our best. Kara has become only the ninth person to earn the title of Blademaster, a title that all Infantry men and women aspire to earn. Kara has added her name to this exclusive list with selflessness and setting an example not just for the Infantry but for all the Band to follow.

Also, returning to us after being absent for quite a while is Kristine. We welcome her back with wide open arms. Not to mention the future Blademaster she is brewing in her belly as we speak! A huge congratulations Kris from all of us on your bundle of joy.

On a remarkable note Windsoftime has flown through the Mahdi program under the ever watchful eye of Taymist. Soon Winds will reach the fourth level of his Mahdi training. Raise your brews to this outstanding example of an Infant!

Do you see yourself interested in the martial arts? Does kicking butt and self defense pique your curiosity? If so join us on Winds mounts training grounds in the Barracks. This is open to all Banders. Winds will be teaching us his own style that he has named Shattering Palm.

May has been an unusually quiet month for RR's in the barracks. This should change shortly as we will be welcoming Naeann and Eol on the 28th of May.

The RA's have been quiet as well. Maybe they just aren't as corrupt this term? Although JR did Spotfine Amavia which has been contested.

Raw Recruits of the Band

(by Lady Bridmorgan, XO)

For any future Banders out there, the Raw Recruit Program is how we initiate all new members to our Org. Each Recruit spends a week with our three regiments in turn, doing fun tasks and getting to know members. At the end of the three weeks they may choose a Regiment to join.

During the month of May we had two Recruits graduate and one receive their RR Stripe!!! They were Myndrunner who chose the Cavalry and Moghedian who chose the Archers.  Congratulations to you both and I know you'll do your new Regiments proud!

The Outstanding Recruit of the Month is the Recruit that has stood out to me as being the most motivated and dedicated. The Outstanding Recruit must excel amongst his/her peers and a reward for this prestigious title is the prize of one org point.

The Outstanding Recruit for the month of April is:  Naeann

Don’t forget to offer your congratulations the next time you see her!

Of the Recruits choosing Regiments the statistics for the new year are:

5 - Infantry

8 - Cavalry

9 - Archers

Missing In Action figures are very reasonable with 9 out of 29 Recruits going MIA this year and we have 1 new Recruit working their way through their training at the moment. A warm welcome to Naeann who is currently going through her Recruit time.  Mat the Gambler has returned once again, his fourth time in the RR program.  ;)  We're waiting on pins and needles to hear which regiment he has decided to join.  We'll let you know the news next month!

Our Recruits ran the gambit of tasks from a travel agency, an innocent or evil game, bartending and Who's Wilson!  Check out the Regimental Articles for more information on their tasks!

A thanks once again goes out to my RLOs. They make my job so easy!

RLOs for the May/JuneTerm:

Archers:

Samuraiflip

Snin

Cavalry:

Uasal

Lady Mayleigh

Infantry:

Kastchei

The Redarm Report

(by Auld Manriva)

Another month down and closer to Christmas. Have I mentioned how I detest what that holiday season has come to be? I have? Well, dash it all!! (what was that? James Mason in a fit of pique?)

This being Memorial Day weekend in the USofA and I being the bullet headed southern mothers son I am and "The Greatest Boring Spectacle on Earth" about to be run in less than an hour and a live broadcast of The Monte Carlo Grand Prix just completed a bit more than an hour ago; please allow me to comment on Formula One and Indy Car racing... Yawn..................... Thank You for allowing me that extended dissertation, you are all most kind.... (Jesus I should'na watched "That Winslow Boy" this morning)... Next thing it'll be Sense and Sensibility ... Someone shoot me ... please.

I need to go smoke a cigarette, change the oil in the land yacht, making sure to leave some grease under my chewed off nails, have a longneck or 6 and get in the mood for some Real racing. Dale Jr. and the rest of the wannabe redneck lads are gonna run 600 miles at Charlotte later today and a good time is in store for all. Who cares if they only turn left 800 times in 400 laps. That leaves plenty of time for sloggin down too many coldbeers (yes cold, not that room temp swill from across the pond), eatin way too much bar-b-que,Doritos and deviled eggs.... Whats even better is the family are all over in Gulfport watching the granddaughter play softball. Leaving me and Max (the killer Chihuahua squirrel hound) to our own devices.

Have I mentioned I enjoy NASCAR Racing? No? Cool.......... I do. I thoroughly enjoy watching cars that vaguely resemble the cars I see on the road day after day run in a large circle at near 200 miles an hour and occasionally fail to negotiate that left turn, causing an impromptu demolition derby to break out. I enjoy the heck outta seein fancy pants open wheel refugees come over and try to compete with the "louts from the colonies". Yeah, Yeah.. "Smoke" came from open wheel but he don't mess with em now much does he? The sad thing is, like in other forms of racing, the "Moonshiners" and other seat of the pants racers are bein' kicked to the curb by engineers and boys who five years ago were still racing go karts, but thats the way of the world.... The ignoramuses of the world create something fun and then the smart guys come along and sand off all the splinters.... Oh Well.

Once again, I've rambled on and forgotten that this is ostensibly an RA report.. Let's remedy that shall we?

Steely .. No not Jr.... SIR Steelaxe has resurrected The Weekly Challenge to cheers from every quarter. Two intrepid Banders have thus far picked up his thrown down gaunlet... well a Rubbermaid Glove actually.. and one, Snin will be finishing his today and if successful will gain prizes galore and the accolades of a conquering hero. If he don't......... welllllll, thats not an image I would wish to convey in a family forum. The other Lady Mayleigh will begin her Challenge today and I will report on her success or utter and embarrassing failure next time we meet.

Not a lot of lawbreaking has gone on this month but JR, Sgt. Sam, and the aforementioned Sir Steelaxe have been on their toes and nabbed a few, MG Corki amongst em. The MG lost a court case in fact and has since opened a bar where MG Brew can be had for a song (or by simply asking for you cheap skates) and other Regimental beverages. As well as RA Brew, a concoction that will take rust from iron, bark from trees and the enamel from teeth. Amavia, who is one of our RA's, and a legend in her own right, has picked up the lawbreaking slack and been spot fined as well my Sis, XO Bridmorgan, who having never been spotfined up until a few months ago has gone on a lawless spree and now has a rap sheet as long as my ... ummm... arm.

I think thats enough of my wit to subject you all to this month.. Besides, I hear a Landshark Lager calling. In fact, The Landshark Chorale and Found Media Fingerpainting Association is calling. Thats dang hard to resist.

Be Careful Out There

Till Next Time

The Prophecy Begins: Part Two

(by Sweet Sora Jea)

Still wondering what the prophecy meant, Hannah and Crystal were surprised when Ingoria and Jen approached them. The sisters offered no explanations, only insisted that Hannah and Crystal follow them to their dorm. Once the door closed, jen demanded to know if anything strange had happened. At first Crystal was lenient, wary of what the sisters were up to; but she could see that, whether she liked it or not, the twins were a part of the prophecy.

"It mentions six," Jen soon pointed out after Crystal and Hannah had expressed knowledge of the prophecy. "But there are only four of us here."

"Have you heard of the dance next week?" Hannah asked suddenly

The other girls nodded slowly, wondering what Hannah was imploying. 'I doubt all six are girls, so what if the last two are at the boys' school?"

"It makes sense," Jen said thoughtfully, "Especially for one so forgetful."

"Your name means forget," Crstyal quickly explained before Hannah said anything. "And hers means grace."

"What?" Ingoria said, looking up quickly.

"So, that's one with grace, two smart and apparently, the one who may someday betray," Hannah said dully.

"Never mind that for now, we have a dance to prepare for," Crstal said in attempt to cheer Hannah.

"'Enter the dream and there be your powers; but not too often or there you'll stay, straing from your original way.'" Jen said suddenly, surprsing everyone, including herself.

"'Now these of old do we remember, the power and glory come never, but the language becomes forever,'" Crystal finished. "All of the knowledge and abilities we gain come from our dreams."

*

After reading the prophecy Noshi had thrown at him, Simon fell onto the bed and stared at the ceiling in confusion. "What does it mean?" Simon asked, lifting his head to see Noshi standing smugly.

"It's our destiny," Noshi replied simply. "As it says, there are four others, girls actually, whom we will meet next week."

"A week?" Simon asked as he bolted upright.

"At the dance," Noshi replied, forgetting Simon did not yet know of it. "Of course, there is much more which I must tell you."

Simon said nothing in response. He was confused, and upset because of it. Nevertheless, there would be no harm in hearing what Noshi had to say. He could only hope that evertying would begin to make some sense.

"We each have powers; some specific, some shared. As you have and know, I have the ablities of telekinesis, teleportation and illusions. What you have not seen or experienced are my abilities of telepathy; which consist of communication, control and reading. It is all part of who we are and what we are meant to do. We are the last five of our kind and there is one we are meant to stop."

"Our kind? Our destiny? Sorry, but, I'm lost," Simon quickly replied, standing to back away from where Noshi was sitting.

"You and I are brothers, two of five siblings actually. We are meant to avenge the destruction of our world, culture and families. Like it said, 'Five did come with one good friend.' The five is a group of quints, in which we both are included."

"Right," Simon said as he fell back down on the bed. "I knew something strange was going to happen here."

*

"They're here!" Simon said as he jumped out of his chair. He had only had a week to process everything and he was still quite uneasy. Nevertheless, he had quickly learned his part in the prophecy as one of the two with grace. Whether or not he had one of these specific powers, he wasn't sure; but according to Noshi, he would soon be able to teleport.

"All four of them," Noshi said happily, following Simon's gaze out the window and performing the final touches on his tux. "And already learning. That one, on the far left; she's searching with her mind, looking for us. Apparently her name is Crystal and the girl to the right of her is her friend Hannah...dolphins."

"Dolphins?" Simon asked curiously before seeing the multiple dolphin pendants woven into Hannah's blue dress. "What about them?"

"Just a saying our parents told me, that 'she who openly wears the dophin sigil will be yours for a bride.'"

"Interesting," Simon said, wondering what their paernts were like. "So, what have they learned?"

"Everything and more. The girl in the red and the girl with fire drawn on her hem, they are both extremely smart. Then the girl in white is your match for grace," Noshi said with a grin. "All we have to do is introduce ourselves and then, our quest will begin."

*

Despite their many differences, the girls had quickly learned to work together. Each had already decided on a dress for the dance and were getting dressed. Crystal was quite pleased with her muti-shaded green dress in which both the hem and waist were encircled by flames. It wasn't exactly formal, but she loved it. What she loved even more was Hannah's dress. With dolphin pendants placed at the peak of several white ribbons, her friend looked like a queen.

Finally ready, Crystal and Hannah met with Jen and Ingoria. Both wore relatively plain dresses with Jen wearing star-clustered red and Ingoria in a priestess-like white. No one said anything, not even when they reached the boys' school. To Hannah and Ingoria, nothing had happened; but to Crystal and Jen, there was much to be learned, including their newfound powers of telepathy.

They began to mingle expansively as soon as they arrived in hopes to discover who the two boys were, if there were indeed two boys involved and if they were even there. Ingoria and Jen had speculated that the two boys were identical twins like they were, but Crystal was determined to keep her eyes open to anyone and everyone.

Crystal and Jen had begun excercising their telepathy powers, only to find that it was much harder than they had thought. Crystal was about to give up when she felt a sudden gasp, barely discerning that it came from Jen. Wondering what had happened, Crystal sent the silent, only to be surprised when Jen's response never came. Instead, she heard a much clearer message, this time from a boy and with audible words. She immediately began searching for who had sent the amazingly clear message. Through her shock, she didn't hear what he said; she only knew that something had been. Then suddenly, one of the girls grabbed her arm and pulled her into a hallway where she finally saw the boy, along with his twin.

"Ah, hello Crystal. I'm Noshi," the boy on her left said, helping her to define the voice she had just heard in her head.

"And his name is Simon," Crystal replied, nodding towards the other boy, causing everyone but Noshi to stare at her in shock.

The English Longbow

(by el Nynaeve)

The longbow was one of the most potent weapons in medieval warfare. It's massive range allowed the English archers to stand out of range of enemy archers, while dealing massive damage to the opposing ranks. The best use of the longbow was during the Hundred Years' War against the French, inflicting huge losses at Agincourt, Crecy and Poitiers. To combat this, the French would often try and capture the longbowmen and chop off the index and middle fingers of the shooting hand, rendering the poor unfortunate archer useless. Because of this practice, the English used to taunt the French by putting their index and middle fingers up in a V sign with the back of the hand facing outward. That sign is still pretty widely used today and is meant to be insulting.

The longbow was generally made of yew or ash, strong wood that would bear up to the pressure exerted when drawn. A lot of longbows were typically 4 to 6 feet in length and capable of 160 to 180 pounds of force. A modern bow is usually only capable of about 60 pounds of force. However longbows could be notoriously inaccurate, depending on the constuct of the bow in question. However, accuracy during battle was not important as the archers would simply fire arrow into the oncoming enemy and were pretty much guaranteed to hit someone by aiming in their general direction. Accuracy only came into play when the enemy was close enough for the archer to aim at individual people. Longbowmen could fire up to ten aimed shots per minute. The advent of firearms and increasing use of them lead to the longbow's disuse in England around the 16th century.

A Soliloquy

(with acknowledgements to Joyce Grenfell)

(by Taymist)

So children, today we're going to be fairies... touch fingers in a big circle shall we?... good... that's it.

And fairies all smile, don't they Janet? That's better....... Karen, we don't want MOANERS in our fairy group do we dear? No, that's right, thank you.

Now... let's all think about our wings... yes James, fairies have to have wings... no Richard we don't wipe our noses on our fairy wings... that's not very nice. Gather closer children... AMY let go of Darren... fairies don't sit on top of each other...I said let Darren go Amy!! Thank you.

Jack...... don't do that.

QUIET PLEASE.

Calm down.

Now what fairy are you Samantha? A flower fairy? Very good. Anne? Anne don't punch Ken... what fairy are you going to be? A forest fairy. Lovely.

And you Mark?..... A cow isn't a fairy Mark. No children, that's not funny. If Mark can't think of something better we'll just have to leave him out..... Because a cow is too big to be a fairy Mark.... yes... and it doesn't have wings really does it?

Now Amanda, what are you? Another flower fairy? I see... what a lovely group of fairies I have here. But I expect you're a wild flower fairy aren't you? Oh... you're just another normal flower fairy...right.

JACK... don't do that!!

Richard... both feet please... don't hop.

No James you can't be a super jet... yes, I know it has wings but they aren't the same kind of wings are they?

JACK......what did I say before? Well don't.

Peggy what did you just throw out the window... come here... a button? And where did the button come from? ... Samantha's dress?... oh dear... Mark stop looking up Samantha's dress... fairies behave better than that.

Ok Miss Forester play away

Head up Richard....

Rhythm, Jack. And cheer up - you're a happy flower, Jack.

Yes, you are.

Because I say so. AND DON'T DO THAT!!

Whips as Practical Weapons

(by Dragonlover)

Whips have been used as weapons in movies, from films such as the original Zorro to Indiana Jones and Catwoman. Movies show action heroes tripping or disarming an adversary, breaking furniture, or other doing other dramatic activities. Because of popularity of whips in film and television, people often want to learn to use the whip as a weapon.

However, while the whip as a weapon looks dramatic on screen, in practical terms it has some major disadvantages. It is true that bullwhips in particular can generate considerable energy and damage a person’s body severely. The tip of the whip can cut and slice like a knife in the hands of a trained individual. However, while fancy whip work appears fast and is impressive to watch, as a defensive weapon the whip is nearly worthless. The user is handicapped by requiring time to throw the whip, having sufficient space to build speed with the lash, and having adequate physical strength and accuracy to be effective in a strike.

Another basic problem with the whip as a defensive weapon is the amount of open space required. The whip is used in movies to give the user the ability to strike from a safe distance. That makes it appear that he or she has an advantage. Unfortunately, in defense, this is the whip’s Achilles’ heel. Someone using a 6-foot bullwhip needs about an 18 foot clear area on all sides to get a powerful whip shot at a target. Without clear space, particularly behind and to the side of the handler, the whip strike cannot even occur; the whip will catch or strike other objects, rendering it less powerful or even useless.

That space between the whip handler and the target can also rapidly disappear if the subject runs at the whip-wielder. This would render the use of the whip completely ineffective. If the subject gets inside or outside the target distance, the handler cannot change the length of the whip. Thus the whip can only be an effective weapon in rare and specific circumstances, and generally, only in the movies.

Another weakness of a whip's defensive abilities is its material. Leather can easily be severed by a sharp sword or axe, and makes a poor pair for a shield.

For a whip to be a useful tool, it would be in limited circumstances as an offensive weapon. Just about the only circumstance that would give a whip handler the advantage in a fight is the element of surprise with a single strike.

Though the whip is not an effective self-defense weapon, the sport of whip-cracking is growing. Thus, it is wise for practitioners to be aware of the limitations of the whip. Much of what is shown in movies is carefully choreographed and special effects are sometimes used. Professional stuntmen know how to set up action for the cameras (in the Indiana Jones movies, different scenes called for vastly different whip lengths), and stunts performed may be unsafe when attempted by untrained individuals. Thus, people interested in whip-cracking are advised to seek out professional instruction.

Fancy Feather Dancing

(by Dragonlover)

The modern show revolves very much around the late twentieth century styles that do include the very latest developments in dance outfits and is certainly a show stopper. Male dancers now wear up to fifteen thousand brightly colored feathers upon their backs while they spin and move to the fast paced drum. Ladies appear on stage decked out in colorful satin dresses, with masses of bead work, sequins and antique pearl buttons. They carry huge ribboned shawls and their dance style is furious, elegant but fast. One of their fastest dances is the beautiful Butterfly Dance, in which a dancer will spin elegantly with high steps to re-tell the Cherokee legend of the butterfly that lost her mate.

Ladies will also demonstrate the amazing jingle dance, introduced by the Ojibwe people. As the story goes, a medicine man's granddaughter was very ill and he had a dream in which a spirit wearing the jingle dress came to him and told him to make one of these dresses and put it on his daughter to cure her. The jingle dress is made of cloth, and decorated with jingles made out of shiny metal snuff tin lids bent into cones and then attached to the dress so they touch each other.

The steps are highly controlled and do not involve high kicks or spins. The steps are in a zigzag pattern to imitate the zig-zagging of the butterfly in its journey. The feet often do parallel movements but should never cross, and the dancer also raises her fan whenever "honor beats" are sounded on the drum. In keeping with all native dance the Jingle Dress dancer must stay in time with the drum beat and stop with both feet on the ground on the final beat.

One of the most fancy male dances is the Feather Dance, and is the result of trying to entertain visitors at reservations in the early 1920's. The outfit took the traditional dancers eagle feather bustles and made them larger, brighter, and more exciting, adding feathers, fluffs, and colors wherever they could. Fancy Dancers dance much faster than all other styles, and it is freestyle, with dancers doing a type of dance known as a ruffle--it is full of shaking, ruffling, and blinding footwork.

Ode to the Lone Soul

(by Sweet Sora Jea)

Amidst the mountains, pale and green,

Thou sung alone, in glorious harmony,

Oh, it is a lone soul, forever to be wanted,

Like the young bird, such natural melody,

Surely thou canst be the last seed of the tree.

Day, o day, to shed light on angels,

Such skin, such heart, and such care

What love couldst thou be denied?

Angel, o angel, stray not from the river,

The wind, o, the wind -- he lies, he lied.

Listen, please listen, the angel sings on,

Yet to the wind, the song no more is sung,

O voice, what voice, with such words by night,

Canst thous see, thou hear, thou love,

Listen, please listen, to such might

Couldst thou be the last seed of the tree?

Destinys' Wind

(by Auld Manriva)

Sometimes it comes a zephyr

Only a whisper teasing your ears

Its intent easy to miss

The way not made clear

Another time its a stiffening breeze

Blowing steadily at your back

Insisting on the road to choose

Though you may take another track

But when Destiny comes a Great Gulf Wind

Skidding storms across the sky

Simply turn and face the Gale

Spread your wings.... and fly

A Farmer and his Cow

(by Arrandion)

A farmer and his girlfriend were out for a stroll in the fields when they came across a cow and a calf rubbing noses. "Boy," said the farmer, "that sure makes me want to do the same." "Well, go ahead," said his girlfriend. "It's your cow."

Children of the Watermelon

(by Arrandion)

There was a farmer who raised watermelons. He was disturbed by some local kids who would sneak into his watermelon patch at night and eat watermelons. After some careful thought he came up with a clever idea that he thought would scare the kids away for sure. So he made up the sign and posted it in the field. The next day the kids show up and they see this sign, it says "Warning!! One of the watermelons in this field has been injected with cyanide." So the kids run off, make up their own sign and post it next to the sign that the farmer made. The farmer shows up the next week and when he looks over the field he notices that no watermelons are missing but he notices a new sign next to his. He drives up to the sign which read: "Now there are two".

The World's Shortest Fairy Tale!

(by El Nyn)

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl "Will you marry me?" The girl

said:"NO!" And the girl lived happily ever after and went shopping,

dancing, camping, drank martinis, always had a clean house, never

had to cook, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn't

get fat, traveled more, had many lovers, didn't save money, and had

all the hot water to herself. She went to the theater, never watched

sports, never wore friggin' lacy lingerie that went up her bum, had

high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in

sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.

The End

Blonde on a Plane

(by El Nyn)

"A young girl boards Flight BA3345 from Heathrow to New York and finds a seat in 1st class. As the Stewardesses check all the passengers, one Stewardess asks the young girl for her ticket. The young girl hand's over her ticket, to which the Stewardess replied: "I'm sorry, but you are sitting in the wrong seat" in a helpful manner.

"I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to New York to be a Supermodel and marry a millionaire!" replied the young girl. The Stewardess was surprised at the young girl's answer, so she decided to call the Senior Steward. The Senior Steward decided that nobody was getting a free upgrade to 1st, so she also informed the young girl that she had sat in the wrong seat and was to sit in economy at the rear. "I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to New York to be a Supermodel and marry a millionaire!" replied the young girl in a firmer tone.

The Senior Steward thought that this might be a job for the Co-pilot, so she asked the Co-pilot to try and resolve this matter. So the Co-pilot decided to have a go to see if he could move the young girl. "Excuse me Miss, but you sat in the wrong seat" said the Co-pilot. "I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to New York to be a Supermodel and marry a millionaire!" replied the young girl. "I'm sorry Miss, but if you don't move to your proper seat, I'll have to ask you to leave the aircraft" replied the Co-pilot. "I'm young, blonde and beautiful, and I'm going to New York to be a Supermodel and marry a millionaire!" replied the young girl. Being new to this game, the Co-pilot decided to consult the Captain.

"Let me sort her out" said the Captain. The Captain then approached the young girl and whispered in her ear.As the Captain returned to the Flight-deck, the young girl got out of the seat and proceeded down the aircraft towards her proper seat. "Cor, what did you say to her?" asked the Co-pilot. To which the Captain replied: "I told her 1st class wasn't going to New York".

*THE KIN*

(by Taymist - UC)

Another month gone and summer is almost here. The Kin has been quieter this month, effected by exams and holidays like everyone else.

We were delighted to welcome Climhazzard to the group this month as he joined the Blue Sashes.  :) Kynwric also returned this month after some "persuasion" from the Eldest, Lor and was warmly re-welcomed.  :D

Raisings for May have yet to be announced as we go to press, so there'll be an update on those next month.

The Spammers’ Challenge is racing onwards and is up to page 637 and post 7637. Why not stop in and give it a boost towards its goal?

April's Seed Exchange was a huge success, with Lor adding to her Garden of Friends once more and many Kinsters delighted to receive happy mail. May sees the annual Postcard Exchange getting underway with lots of people having signed up to take part. Listen out for the sound of the letterbox over the next few weeks people!!  ;)

If you'd like to see what other games and activities are on offer, then stop by for a visit... but remember!!... points are not the point  8-)... it's all about having fun and making friends.

See you all again in June for more mad antics!!  ;)

*Wolfkin*

(by Taymist UC)

May in the Wolfkin has been as quiet as everywhere else but happily saw the return of Ar'tara from her LOA. Org Leader, Goldeneyes05, still has limited access and his presence is missed around the Stedding.

There were no new members this month but a warm greeting was given to visiting old members, Gwendalyn and WinterMist. Lovely to see you ladies.

The 1st of the month saw two Raisings as Gerrendus made Youngling and LeeLou made Packmate. Congrats to both of you, keep up the good work!!  :D

Birthday celebrations were held for Talya, Naeann and Wolfsbane. We hope you all had wonderful days!!

In other news, Tigara and 12th caused uproar by trying to destory the Torture Tree and began an argument over the existence of the Cheerleaders. It's still ongoing. Meanwhile, Doselan escaped from real life duties and started a general brawl on the public board so if you don't mind being tickled, drenched in tequila and dunked in chili vats, pop by and join the fun.

May's edition of Pawprints has been cancelled due to a lack of participation from contributors which is rather sad to see. Come on folks, get in gear for next month and earn a few points!!

In our final piece of news, Taymist (yes, me) stepped down as Council Member and Healer Guild Head after almost a year in both jobs due to health and other commitments. Doselan will be replacing her as Guild Head and she'll still be helping out as his second.

That's all the up to date happenings around The Stedding for May. If you fancy some TQ and chili or have an interest in all things to do with nature... stop by for a visit. We'll be thrilled to see you and I'll be back next month with more news!!  ;)

*Wolfkin Div*

(by Taymist - DL)

Staff contacts:

Division Leader (DL) - Taymist

Asistant DL - Andular

Head of the Rangers - Whitewolf/Owen

Head of the Sages - Andular/Miryana

Head of the Trackers - Nynaeve/Winifred

The Wolfkin had a rather quiet month as exams and holidays took over many members' real lives but the RP goes on albeit a little more slowly.

A new RP has been submitted by Andular recently and is under discussion amongst the Division Leaders at the moment as it will involve characters from outwith the Wolfkin. The premise is a simple one, based on an idea from the TV series "Lost", with a mixture of people being stranded on an island following a storm that shipwrecked their vessel. It should be great fun, so keep an eye out for more details.

In other news, long standing member, Wolfsbane celebrated his birthday on 27 May. Congrats to him.  :) We hope he had a wonderful day.

If you think you'd be interested in becoming a part of the Division, check out the website HERE. The site is constantly being updated and has recently had information added on the Watchers sub-division as well as general background details about the Stedding. Current members are also advised to check it out.

If you have any queries, you can contact Tay at DMwolfkindiv@gmail.com regarding bios or wolvesinmist@hotmail.co.uk for general questions and just to say hi.

So if you feel you'd enjoy indulging in a bit of fantasy and trying your hand at role playing within Randland, we hope to hear from you soon and do stop by the out of character (OOC) board HERE.

Robert Jordan Documentary

Hunter Wentworth is making a documentary about our beloved RJ and a call went out this month for help with the funding for it, just 3 days before the dealine. Another Hunter who is a DM member kindly donated the remaining amount soon afterwards which was excellent to hear. We wish the best of luck to Hunter in his filming.

The film will focus on his life, telling of his early life in Charleston, his tours of duty in Vietnam, his relationship with his wife and step son, the creation of The Wheel of Time series, the success of the series, his battle with amyloidosis, his death, and the completion of the final book in the Wheel of Time series “A Memory of Light”.

What exactly IS the Hornsounder?

Hornsounder is the Band of the Red Hand's monthly Newspaper. It evolved from a newsletter into a newspaper in March 2007 when Mystica took over as Editor in Chief and started a full restructuring and re-organisation of what once was not much more than a points earning tool.

Today, Hornsounder is a full sized newspaper that is run by a whole team of people and covers not only news from the Band but also offers a space to all other groups on Dragonmount to share their news and events with the rest of the community. Although the main focus remains on the Band, of course, it is a nice extra forum for other groups to get in touch with those that have not yet been in touch with them as well as offers their members a certain amount of pride to see their beloved group represented in this newspaper. (we hope... )

Hornsounder is open to everyone on DM, regardless of which group they belong to or don't belong to. And this in both ways. Whether you just want to read, play the games or participate in the Competitions, everyone is welcome to join in. The same goes for being actively involved in the Hornsounder as a reporter. Everyone is welcome to participate, write articles, offer a project they would like to run or simply get involved by offering ideas and suggestions to increase the quality of your newspaper.

There are some restrictions where positions are concerned, given that Hornsounder IS the Band's newspaper and therefore Banders do get priority on certain aspects. But this does not exclude the possibility of involvement for Non-Banders who wish to be an active part of it.

Interested in getting involved? contact Mystica through pm and she'll get back to you asap after assessing your suggestion/idea.

How does the Hornsounder work?

Hornsounder, like every real newspaper, is divided into Sections and some of those have Subsections.

Sections are shown by their individual Graphic Headers.

Subsections are shown in BLUE

The Reporter Teams.

Each Section is run by a Section Senior Reporter who is the coordinator of the entire Section, including the subsections. It is their job to make sure all the elements are submitted at the deadline given and meets the required quality standards. Some Subsections are in themselves so big that they too have been assigned a Section Senior Reporter.

The different Sections and Subsections are made up of a series of articles that can be made/written by either the SSR's or by other writers: Junior Reporters. They write parts of the Section contents and work closely together with the SSR's. They get to be mentioned as the author of the articles they write/make, and in case of a Bander get the points that go along with it.

Next to the Section Reporters we also have Project Reporters.

Senior Project Reporters are those in charge of a large project that almost certainly requires the help of Junior Reporters.

Junior Project Reporters are those in charge of small or medium sized projects and may (or may not) need assistance from Junior Reporters.

Which projects are Senior or Junior level is decided by the Editor in Chief on a case-to-case basis.

The Editorial Team is made up by an Editor in Chief, a Senior Editor, a Graphic Editor and Junior Editors.

The Editor in Chief runs the whole newspaper. Creates and motivates the team, monitors progress and overlooks all Sections and everyone involved, gathers all the submissions and glues it all together into one coherent and appealing newspaper. The EiC also guards the quality of the newspaper, assesses new ideas/suggestions, implements new features and follows up on just about everything. The EiC has the final say on everything though should always strive to find the right balance between her team's ideas, the newspaper's needs and the readers' wishes.

The Senior Editor is the right hand of the EiC and picks up the reins in case the EiC is unable to perform the function. The SE is there to insure that the newspaper is published on time and with the set quality even if the EiC is indisposed.

The Graphic Editor is the left hand of the EiC and is in charge of all the graphical elements of the newspaper. From the Headers to the graphics in the articles, this is all the GE's domain. He/she is the one writers can turn to if they want to liven up their sections or articles with a graphical item.

The Junior Editor, are the assistants of the EiC and SE and tackle a variety of preperatory tasks on the editorial aspect of the Hornsounder. To become a JE one needs to be extremely active, willing and eager to work behind the scenes and be available for whatever the EiC and SE may need them for.

Hornsounder's Teams

How to be a part of the Hornsounder team.

If you would like to try your hand at being a reporter or you have an idea for a project, a game, a competition or you would like to participate in one of the Sections, then here's your chance!

Send a PM to Mystica with an outline of your idea or request.

She will assess it and give you an answer as soon as possible.

Note: Hornsounder claims the right to make any adjustments to your ideas that might be necessary to insure the quality and coherency of the newspaper.
