Once upon a time ... In an age long past and an Age yet to come, Robert Jordan blew a lot of wind that made it sound like Demandred and Mazrim Taim were secretly the same person. Then all the fan theories sprouted and Jordan seemed to change his mind. Since the series is set to streamline the WOT character line up, what are the odds this little chestnut will be a thing? I'd be ok with it, and it would make sense for the story and would be a nice way to pay homage to the long term WOT fanbase too imo What do you think? 🤔
At various points working on this project, I've felt like Sisyphus attempting to roll a boulder uphill. Every time I thought I was close, there would be yet another setback. When I first got online in the summer of 1998, the WOTFAQ was one of the first pieces of fandom I found. I took me about two or three days to read through it. I was shocked at how wrong I was on some of my ideas. I was also shocked at some of the things that seemed quite obvious to me that apparently weren't to others. When I saw the list of credits, I thought "Ah ha! These must be the really cool people. I want to be one of them." But as a teenage AOL user, I had no idea what Usenet was, much less how to access it. As time passed, I found other ways to contribute to the fandom and be one of the cool kids. But, (and I think anyone that was following Jordan fandom online during the nineties and early part of this century agrees) being listed as a contributor to the WOTFAQ was still a holy grail of sorts. A mark that your ideals were important and original. So when the opportunity came to not only contribute to the FAQ, but to be it's editor, I of course took it. I will confess though, that it feels somewhat like cheating to get my name in it this way. When I took on the WOTFAQ project, it was April 2009. I had just chaired my first JordanCon, I was in the middle of planning for Dragon*Con, the end of the school year was approaching like a rocket sled and I was the Matron of Honor for a wedding in October. In short, I was exhausted and slightly burnt out on fandom. So work didn't begin on the FAQ until around July 2009, with the intention of releasing it in late September or early October, just ahead of the release of THE GATHERING STORM. This is when the boulder starts to roll back. We could have gotten the FAQ out in time if A) I had started earlier, B) paced myself harder or C) decided on Drupal as a content management system sooner and learned how to use it faster. Also at this point, I had already read THE GATHERING STORM as a beta reader and so I had a pretty good idea of just exactly what was going to have been redone in just a few months. Nothing helps your motivation more than knowing you get to do it all over again in just a few months. So I made the decision to delay releasing the WOTFAQ by a year. Yes, it would add more material to the update. But we had already updated quite a few things that would not require looking at again and the hardest part, figuring out Drupal, had already been done. Besides, every previous FAQueen has had at least two years in between updates for each book. Eighteen months to do three books didn't seem like an unreasonable thing to ask. The WOTFAQ has 156 articles. Sixty of those required new material, either a short update, a lengthy revision or a completely new article. The Asmodean article is 32 pages long in Word. The majority of new text added to the FAQ is mine. Several articles were contributed by Linda Taglieri and James Luckman. Matt Hatch provided feedback on many articles. Several others provided support in other ways and are credited in the FAQ. The majority of the new text was written before Brandon Sanderson completed TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT and gave it to the beta readers. The only influence that ToM has had on this version of the WOTFAQ was me making sure that certain articles were as complete and updated as I could possibly make them, as they will be used for reference during the discussions after it's release. The next update is scheduled for around this time next year. Perhaps a little earlier. There will be at least one more update after A MEMORY OF LIGHT is released. Depending on what material makes it into the Encyclopedia that Harriet is working on, there may be another update after that is released. Please send all suggestions for next time, as well as typos and corrections to WOTFAQ@dragonmount.com so I can have them all in one place. If you haven't seen it yet, here it is again: http://wotfaq.dragonmount.com/ I hope you enjoy it. --Jennifer Liang
