  1. Hello dear friends ^_^ So, I have a newly raised Red that is in desparate need of some weapons training. Does anyone fancy a little scene together to help train her? I'm open to anyone that wants to play around. if it's any character outside the Tower proper, we can totally come up with a reason for her to be training with them. I don't mind writing a solo RP for the purpose, but it would be much more fun with another player ❤️
  2. If one were to think about it logically, dawn was probably the least intelligent time to hold training sessions. Not only were the useless meat-sacks not awake enough to hold a sword, there was always one dumb bastard who thought he or she could show up late without repercussion. Sergeant Beleo Ronas was not one for logic, though. The session was at dawn for one simple reason: everybody knew training sessions were held at dawn. The Sarge was not a big man by any stretch of the imagination. Standing six feet tall, there were plenty of men bigger than him. However, there were very few in the Band as old as him. At 47, Sergeant Ronas was one of those things that wise warriors feared: a veteran front-liner. He was also the go-to man when it came to breaking the new flesh in. His methods ranged from the classic to the unorthodox, and the results showed the effects of his abilities. People he trained reacted better in odd situations than most. He had also personally trained one of the most deadly men to ever be part of the Band, the former commander Mehrin 'Deathwatch' Mahrvon. The field was set. Beleo had commandeered one of the sand-covered training areas near the westernmost wall, setting out a few weighted training weapons ranging from rapiers to shortswords to an oversized claymore. No matter what kind of sword a trainee felt comfortable with, there would be a replica of it on that table; the arrival of bizarre weapons made sure that training replicas were always made for them. Sergeant Ronas walked to the far end of the laid-out training weapons, where he picked up his own custom-made training weapon: a heavy two-hander like the ones favored by heavy infantry in his home nation of Shienar. The blade was heavily notched, and the leather-bound hilt was stained with sweat and blood; training did not always go easy for either him or his students, and the weapon showed it. Taking a moment to shrug out of his rough-spun coat, Beleo swung the weapon a few times, loosening up a bit while his students appeared, one by one. Directing them to the assembled weapons without a word, he continued working and waiting. OOC: Post your arrivals, selecting a weapon, and waiting for Beleo to start the lesson. I'll get things going as soon as I have a few victims. Just a reminder, your WS range from 2-5 right now (I would have sent you the number). Sergeant Beleo is 17, so don't think you'll be an equal match in the event he decides to use one of you as a demonstration spar (which might be possible; I'm not sure yet myself what all will happen in this lesson).
  3. “So you see it is not so hard to do but you do need to pay attention .If you do not you run the risk of catching a finger in the blade and that means goodbye to the finger.” Owen was demonstrating how to make a quarterstaff to a small group of Guardians. Although they all carried enough weapons top outfit a small army there was always times when even this vast an armoury would run out and one needed to use what one could find. “Obviously we do not always have access to equipment such as you see here, but if you can find a good straight length of wood and a knife, you can over come that and produce a passable quarterstaff.” Owen finished what he was doing and held it up so that everyone could see what he was on about. “Now your task for the rest of the day is to take only a knife, whatever knife you have with you, and go in search of a stout length of wood and return here no later than sundown with your finished quarterstaff.” Realisation hit the group as they contemplated a journey through the forest in the pouring rain. It was not the sort of day to be outside, nor was it the sort of weather to be hunting that elusive tree branch. But as Owen had often told them when they had complained, they were not Aes Sedai, and they were not able to control the weather. That meant they had to be able to do what was necessary come what may. Slowly they trouped out of the shed they were in, and Owen and John collected all their weapons, even those that were hidden, which the two Rangers always managed to find, and made their way into the sodden forest in search their ever-elusive quarry. Once John had departed, to keep a wary eye on the group, Owen returned to the workbench but instead of settling down to continue his work he spoke in a soft voice, “You can come out now, they have all gone and no one will disturb us.” Owen was not entirely sure who it was that had been spying on the lesson he had been teaching, but their scent was familiar and as she stepped out from the gloom of the shed he smiled to himself. “So would you mind telling me why you were skulking back there and why I should not turn you over to the Sages to show you the error of your ways?” There was no threat in his words, if anything the over riding emotions was amusement. The lesson this day had not been anything that he would not have gladly taught to anyone who had asked so by hiding out, this miscreant had not learned anything secret. Owen The WhiteWolf Ranger Leader
  4. ((Bleh, hate to submit this, but I've been a long time coming with Raith's intro.)) A moment of shock caused him to inhale sharply. A smile spreading over his lips, and he looked to the rugged man who had took him thus far. He smiled, and spoke in that deep Shienarian accent of his, "Peace, you going to stand there all day grinning like a pup at his first kill?" Raithgar shook his head, the man's normal gruffness wasn't in it today. They continued tracking through the forest, the heavy foliage and heat not faring well with the native Shienarian boy. Still, the most disturbing thing was knowing that he was being watched, worse yet was that he could feel the watchers. "Don't worry, they are just patrolling." He nodded, and tried very hard to ignore them. To his surprise, it worked. Wish I'd known that sooner... It was nice to have his head to himself again. A bit further in, he noted a building, and looked to the tracker, "The sages will explain everything you need to know. Just keep up, we're almost there." Raithgar again nodded, and his smile only grew. Finally, he'd get all the answers he needed. The tracker led him to another cropping of buildings, specifically to the largest one, and took him inside. Once inside, he was told to wait, and both men did. Raithgar perhaps, a bit more impatiently..
  5. It had been an eventful week when all was said and done as far as Anton was concerned. He liked to keep his students under watch, so he'd taken them to the hut that was essentially more Sohvi's now than it was his. Now that had been fun straight away, Sohvi had been out the door in a flash and taken a good while to coax back to meet the new guests who would be staying with them for at least the night. Of course, then Katrina had assumed Sohvi's fright and meekness around strangers was his fault which had triggered her defensive feelings. It had almost come to blows right then and if Korrena hadn't jumped in with the random inspiration to hug Sohvi who freaked out from the touch and ran again. Koramena at that point decided to side with Katrina in her opinion of why Sohvi was as she was and if Timewalker had been there, she probably would have been laughing up her sleeve. Anton had effectively lost his hut that night, and had the next day had been spent supplying the hut with the extra things they would need, like a couple more beds. At least Timewalker had been around then to help, though he was certain that he'd smelt the amusement wafting from her. That experience alone had been enough to confirm for him that if he ever had children, they were going to be sons or he was going to pawn them off to whoever would take them. Most likely the gaggle of girls he had to take care of now. And of course, the attempts over the following days to teach them had proven fruitless. As a group they were impossible, Korrena was overly excitable and quick to lose her attention, the twins were inseperable and Katrina's suspicion of him had deepened and was affecting Koramena in turn. After several days of no success, as well as a good measure of frustration, he'd decided to split them up. Now that had really exacerbated things. Korrena didn't approve because it wouldn't be fun without her sisters, or something, and Koramena didn't want to be apart from her twin sister as their initial split had been bad enough. And, of course, Katrina felt that it was all part of some evil plot on Anton's part if the rise in her homicidal rage had been any sort of indication. It hadn't been much of a surprise at that point when she'd offered to be taught first. That, of course, had led to Anton making a very simple decision about where her education would start. So it was that he was waiting for her a good twenty minutes walk away from the hut. He wanted her seperated so he could deal with her directly and he knew that what he was going to have to do wasn't going to be pleasant. But, it was going to be necessary if he was going to establish some order and make sure that things could be kept relatively civilised. Not that it was entirely Katrina's fault. Apart from whatever there was motivating her, there was also her wolfish side that was going to be fighting for dominance. Not just over her, but it would lead her to try and assert it on some of those around her, those she felt were threatening. But, there was going to be a leader to this pack and he was going to be it, otherwise he would not be able to teach her anything. Hence the pair of staves he had picked out, one resting on his lap as he sat there and the other resting on the ground a dozen paces away. While they were at it, he'd be able to measure her ability with a weapon and refine it a little once they'd established the teacher and student relationship. It was awhile before she appeared, but she was about on time so there was no need to quibble. Instead, he got to his feet and gestured with his stave to the one he'd picked out for her. "One of the first things a Wolfkin must do is learn how to defend themselves. Seeing as you've been champing at the bit to take a swing at me since we met, here is your opportunity to show me what you have. If you can knock me down, you'll get Timewalker for a teacher and you won't have to deal with me again, neither will your sisters. If you can't, then you're stuck with me." "Sound fair?" Anton Averdal Farpaw
  6. Owen had been presented with a most unusual problem concerning training, how to train a blind person. It was not something he had had to consider before, and looking through the records, in his office, neither would it seem had any of the previous leaders of the Rangers. Owen had tried out several ideas, enlisting the help of two of the Rangers, Galdrian and his brother Aldreas, they were unique among the Wolfkin being brothers. Although the ideas had seemed good ones at the time, once put into practice, the three Rangers soon became convinced that they would not be that beneficial, so Owen had retreated to his office to do some more thinking. The rest of the day passed slowly for him, and as dusk gathered Owen decided to call it a day and head to the Hole in the Wall for something to eat and drink, ever since Iris had left, Owen had spent most evenings there, enjoying the company of the other Wolfkin who liked to be sociable. It was some time later, after a satisfying meal, and a tankard or two of Lentrian Red, that Owen finally realised what he needed to do to help Firion out with his training. Making his excuses, Owen left the small gathering of Wolfkin, and headed back to his home. As he neared the tree where his house was, there was a slight rustling in the underbrush, and a large white female wolf appeared out of the shadows. Grinning to himself, Owen greeted his long time companion and the two of them continued on their way to Owen’s tree house. The next morning dawned clear and bright, and another hot day was in order as Owen finished his morning run and made his way to the Rangers training area which was also used for any weapons practice, not just that which applied to the Rangers. While he waited for Firion to arrive, Owen busied himself, setting what he needed to help Firion learn to handle a staff and defend himself. Owen was still not sure his idea would work, but it had a better chance than anything else he had been able to think of, so he was quietly confident that this would solve his problem. It was not long before Firion arrived, and Owen greeted him warmly, even though the two of them had not really met before. Owen asked Firion about his experience with weapons, and was surprised to learn the young man had had no previous training, which was a first as far as Owen was concerned. Owen led Firion over to a rack containing staffs of various heights and thickness and asked him to choose one that was to his liking. When this was done Owen explained to Firion what today’s lesson would be about, and how he was to proceed. “I have set up two hollowed out pieces of wood, circular in shape, and inside they are half filled by various seeds, this is to allow you to hear them as they swing back and forth on the ropes they are suspended on. One is about waist height, maybe slightly lower, and one is about chest height. As I swing them so the seeds inside them rattle about against the wood. What I want you to do is to hold your staff across your chest, with your hands spaced evenly apart. As you hear one of the targets get close to you, I want you to try and block it with your staff. As you have had no experience before with anything like this, I think you will suffer a few knocks and bruises, but preserver and hopefully you will make progress.†With that Owen moved aside and after making sure Firion was ready, started to swing the two targets back and forth, not to fast, but fast enough to leave a red mark if Firion did not counter them. Owen The WhiteWolf Ranger Leader Firion, this is going to be very awkward for you at first, and you will suffer many a bruise. So for your first post I want you to give your reactions to meeting Owen, and to what he is asking you to do, then post trying to block the targets as they swing back and forth, and make sure you read my PM to you before responding to this.
  7. Nightsfire regarded his big student for a moment then nodded. “A battle ax it is then lad. Rangers are skilled in all weapons and I can teach you to master one with some hard work.†Leaving Burrich for a moment Nights went to the supply cabin and after a bit of rummaging found a practice battle ax with a dulled edge. Returning to the sparring ring he gave it to his student. “Until you have a good handle on your skills practice with that it will be safer for all involved.†Chuckling Nights stepped back as the Young man got a feel for the weapon and placed his own ax off to the side. “The first rule to learning any weapon is to let it become an extension of your body. Slow your breathing and let the feel of the ax mold to your hands.†Giving Burrich a few more moments to get the feel of the weapon Nights waited until he was ready. “Now show me what you know if its use and how to wield it properly.â€
