OOC: Heh, couldn't resist the Dark Tower reference in the title 'Childe Roland to the Dark Tower come'. Open to any Band people, particularly if s/he wants to train Tris. The new girl smiled, checked her reflection in the looking glass, straightened her tunic, and headed for her lesson. Just remember Tristram, for the moment, you’re a boy, she reminded her flat-chested mirrored self as she stopped and looked back at the empty room. “Off I go then.” The mirror Tris seemed a good looking boy, with the dark hair and pale skin of her parents. She’d only been with the Band for a few nights, was on probation still, and she hadn’t yet revealed her real self to anybody except the medic who brought her in, and ‘grandpa’ Burgandy, and that was by accident. Well, Tris mused, both of them obviously got bigger problems than Tris on their heavy shoulders. She felt sorry for the medic Jehryn — he seemed in a particularly foul mood and she took care to keep her distance from the bandaged-up man. She left her room, and walked to the far end of the street past a sour looking officer, and then on a windy corner, checked the directions that’d been written on a scrap of paper. Right at this corner, past the rowdy tavern, and up the steps into the main area of the Citadel. She was amused to see training sessions were already in progress all around her, complete with attentive students of every age and description. Training was all very new to her. She had to try her best not to screw it up. There were many nice-looking men and women who seemed honest and good hearted, but Tris couldn’t trust them right now. But she wouldn’t run away again, not until she found her mother. At times, Tris despaired of ever finding the bloody woman outside of dreams . . . There was no point in thinking like that. She’d come too far to turn back. Tris Landorin
The cool morning wind greeted Nightsfire as he stepped from the Ranger training barracks and peered up at the cloudless blue sky. Today was a day for new beginnings and a lopsided smile crossed his face as he squinted against the bright sun. Anton had left the stedding and Nightsfire had been asked to take over the training of his student Raithgar. From what he had been told the young man was well on his way to being very well versed in the art of combat but that was not all there was to learn. After all he himself had believed that weapons were all that needed to be mastered to be an elite Ranger. Chuckling as he walked from the training compound he thought back to just how wrong he had been. Deciding to begin Raithgar’s training with the mastering of his newly enhanced senses and combining a bit of herb lore he made his way toward the lake where he had sent word for the young man to meet him. The houses and buildings of the stedding village left behind him Nightsfire made his way up a well worn path that led to the lake. Pushing through some foliage he emerged in a clearing overlooking the large lake and sat down next to a tree to wait. Quickening’s thoughts entered his own and he saw images through the big she wolves eyes of deer and felt the thrill of the hunt as she prowled with her brothers and sisters. A moment later a rustling in the trees announced the arrival of his charge and a young man emerged with dark hair worn in a Shienarian style top knot. Rising to his feet Nightsfire smiled and held out his hand. “I am John Dunbar it is a pleasure to meet you. As you may have been told I will be taking over your training from Anton.” The lad had the look of confidence in his eyes which was good and he stepped forward to take his new mentors hand in his own. “We will be working on senses and herb training today. But before we begin please ask any questions you may have of me.” OOC: John is about 5'11 medium build mousy brown hair and a medium build. His wolf name is Nightsfire and his wolf companion is Quickening.
After all he'd been through, and all he'd learned, since coming to the Stedding, Burrich was being entrusted with the training of a new Wanderer. And yet, this Wanderer was unlike any other, since he'd been here before and knew more of the history of the Wolfkin than any other outsider ever learned. Thus the training would be different as well. Burrich would not be able to progress through Anton's training in the same manner John had guided him through his. He'd left a note for Anton to meet him at the break of dawn just out back from the inn. This had left him plenty of time to do his normal workout this morning and still arrived ten minutes or so before Anton was due to show. But, Anton was already there. Good, punctuality was something to be desired in a student. "Well Anton, I know you've spent some time here but before we get started on your training I thought I'd give youu a chance to ask any questions. Learning about us and becoming one of us are different perspectives on everything. I remember what it was like to go through the howling so I'd be glad to help you any way I can."
