  3. Ok of course you can layer up and make amazing glow effects with layering but lets get to the basics and more simple glow stuff this is the stuff when i want to make simpler stuff glow and its either 1. use blur 2. use skreen, addition or similar mode in layers 3. a combination of the two ok here i got a black background and i got text i want to make glowing in a layer afront of it now i am going to make a layer between my name layer and my background now it looks like this aka my text has been selected i head into select menu and in this case set it too 3 pixel, then make my empty layer my active layer i go to edit and fill it with my selected color now because the color i want to glow is fairly light, you can see it disapears a bit in the light color, so for that reason i go to select menu, shrink 2 and choose a color slightly darker then my text to fill the new selected inner field with now i use the cut tool (i am sure there is a better way for this but this the simplest way i found to deactivate a selection) and click utside the frame now i go to filters, blur and use gausian blur on this layer to me this not good enough so i duplicate layer and set it to addition and half optimacy now the thiner the line and if its in medium to dark range i find this works a lot better then with light colors most of the time, with them you likely want to layer more and work on shading out and in and all... example and in this one the bluur layer only have one color not two like the last one, and there is no layer on top of the text either Framing now of course you can find beautifull frames in say pixabay you can just put your picture in, there is also an framing tool in the filters and artistic menu or was it decoration but basic gist there is nothing hindering you making your own frames, either by use of cuting tool, shrink and grow feature in the select menu or by use of eraser and different brushes - and combine this of course with any number of other tools and effects will cover a few here ok first and very simple one i have a picture, i duplicate the layer, i colorize it, i go to select and choose all, then i go back to select and here i shrunk by 25 now i delete the new selection and voila now this same version can be used to fill say one color, shrink some more, fill another color, and shrink again fill another color you can of course blur those layer lines you see you can even use another picture, patern or something and do this with you could play with it and do the different frame colors in different layers and make them more transparent in some layers then others and so on and forth ok now another way to do this is create a new layer on top of your picture and simple use the airbrush tool, the pencil, the paintbrush or the eraser to make a new frame in the edge by creating some of the brushes with form now i figure you see the paintbrush and pencil and all, but eraser? yes simple make a picture the layer above with say a pattern, use a big eraser and remove it completely, then use anti erase to take back parts of it
  4. I wrote this in a series of lessons for TarValon.Net, but I am happy to share this little lesson to help all of you! CREATING SIGNATURES IN "PHOTOSHOP" PART 2 Signatures, or "Siggies" are basically what it is named. It is a form of signing your name at the end of any post you create. Some use a basic text signature, others elaborate graphics. Most use both. A signature is only limited by the individual creativity, but then even the most basic of signatures can express many different things. Emotions, humor, satire, or even a political expression. We all love Signatures, and it's probably why most of you have chosen to take this class. In Lesson 2 we will be piecing together a signature from one image to create something that looks flawlessly like one image! Careful, we are going to get rather image heavy from here on out and I do apologize for the image sizes. I'm cutting them down so that they can be viewed fairly easily... trying to anyway. Step 1: Start by opening an image into your editor. My choice of image is I__m_still_here by night fate, as the composition of the original has beautiful colours and reminds me of a Novice in her white dress. Click on Links -> http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-1.png Step 2: http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-2.png Step 3: http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-3.png Step 4: Blending Images Together http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-4.png http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-5.png http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-6.png http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-7.png http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-8.png Step 5: http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-9.png Step 6: http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-10.png Step 7: http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-11.png http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-12.png Step 8: Final Product http://ariescapes.com/TV/class/Lesson2-13.png HOMEWORK: Homework is to make a Signature by piecing together many parts of one image. (If you can't find an image, feel free to pilfer one from my favorites on Deviantart.com.) I challenge you to make this for either your mentor or for a friend.
  5. Ok going to finish this over the weekend, it will be in several sittings likely. I will also combine it with geting starting on stuff for the halloween auction 1. so this first post will be basically how to do the same as what i covered in the powerpoint sig making tutorial 2. the second post i will get into how to use layering to create more effects both layer specific effects and transparancy 3. this post i will get into the logo option for making text and how to make glowing balls yourself by use of filters as its two things you probably will want to know early on for niftyness and since many likely will want to display channeling in sigs ok so i normally start by identifying my background ok so for those who dont have gimp you can find it here https://www.gimp.org/ from file you choose new, and then right away you can set the size settings you want as you see i done here now i use ctrl + v to paste the picture in, alternately you can go to the edit menu and choose paste once you got it in it will look like this, do note where i circled where you can change menu tabs the little arrow slightly to the right of my circle will allow you to add more tabs or remove them the paperstack is layers which we will get more into later, but for now at the botom of this menu is this line with the circled button the one you want to hit next alternately to avoid this is saving pictures and open them through file and choosing open as layer then you can basically drag it around in there, i draged it so i can see the moon in the corner (just click and drag while you hold the left mousebutton in) so found a picture in the vector section to use as my character, the same apply here you now actually want to use file open as layer or gimp will posible put on a black background you dont want there, since the whole point of these vectors are transparent backgrounds now i want to resize it in the program and i marked the button for that you now get this up now if this chain is open, click it so it close, now you can change the pixel to prosentage but the easiest is just leave it and go just drag the picture smaller like you do in word and other programs and then go back and click scale once you got it to the size you want oh and pay attention to your mouse cursor, if you go over the picture you will see it will change when its on and off, so when you want to click down to resize or move, make sure the symbol changed to indicate your actually over that picture. Also move tool button indicated in the next picture now i want to insert some magic there, and i found this now i want to look closer at it to do an erasing over the most forward hand so it looks like the lightning comes in between his hands, this you find at the botom line of gimp now we got too choose the eraser, and set the tab too the tool option and you can see i got a circle with faded edges so it will hard erase in the midle and be more and more transparent towards the edges of the eraser, which will make a more blended look next you probably want a handle on and then you use the text button and you can adjust font and size and color in the tab for tool options and you can move it around the sig after making it and adjust as wanted and voila now when you save a sig you want to save as xcf file as this is the editable version, and export to a png or jpg which is what you can upload here
  6. Ok so going to start with basics of how i made sigs before i got any photoprograms, maybe you dont have an own computer or similar to download programs on, then this is an option So that does require finding pics that need less editing as you are more limited in options, so i dug out some on pixabay to use for a sig this is going to be my background now since there is some limits in transparantsy and cuting tools are more rough in office programs, what i do is i choose to use a picture that dont have a background as such, so when in pixabay i choose vector graphics or illustrations are most likely to give you results without backgrounds in if it is without background you will see a checkered field around the picture when you go into it like this you do want to save this on the computer and insert it into the program rather then copy paste, if not it is often made into a picutre with black background so lets head into powerpoint first now because we are working with specific sizes a signature being 125x500 pixels, we want to somewhat know we are in the right size ratio when working so back then i would copy someone elses signature so i got the size about right now i copy paste the background in there and right click choosing to place it all the way to the back. Moving the signature over it i can resize it and the sig over it becomes slightly transparent in the process so i can move it so i get the part i want of the picture within the frame next i use the formation menu and crop button to cut off the edges around it now we can see they arent perfectly the same size, but we will get back to resizing in the end, and as long as you are not working with fine details at the edges it wont mather as you will just trim the edges in the end now i head to the insert menu and insert the vectorgraphic i downloaded with the insert picture button now just resize it to fit and move it over the picture where you want it and go back to insert menu and use word art to put your handle on in a nifty way now open your sniping tool, just search for it if you havent used it before, it looks like this use new and cut out the picture and save it from the file menu which will apear after you cut it out, then you can either go to webpages like this to resize and crop it right https://resizeimage.net/ or when you upload it to your signature field on DM, you doubleclick it and can set the pixelsize there, as long as its aproximately right as this one was it wont be too terible disconfigured cause its just a couple pixels off on the length and voila i will later add some more to this how you can incorporate pictures that are not having transparent background edit: ok so back so using the same background but say i didnt find something with transparent background, but rather another picture in the photo section of pixabay so this time i want to use another part of the original picture because i want a more faint background with less clutter so it fades more to the back so from the formation menu, you can choose different frames or styles for pictures you opened in powerpoint, i choose round because i want to make it apear smooth in the picture, and i dont want the frames they made on options atm cause i do not like them for what i want to do now next obviously you resize it and move it where you want it, and a handle or text as previously mentioned and obviously you can here experiment with spliting the slide, adding more pictures, both in frames and with transparent backgrounds and so on. but keeping it to the basics when showing this and then you can build on it yourself but as an example
