  1. LTT The Dragon Reborn?! What?

    AoL really

Ishamael? Or are they really making him the DO

    Sa"angreal, really? We're going there?

    Joiya! I like that

    Fain!

Horn of Valere in Fal Dara

    Moiraine stilled?

    Seanchan with a strong entrance

Combined the attack on Fal Dara with the Tarwins Gap battle, not sure how I feel about Algemar dying, doesn't play a huge part later, and he stuff can be someone esle.

What are they doing with Mat? I'm not liking this at all.

I feel like they have the overall thought of the Eye of the World sequence, but it's completely different.

I've accepted the TV show is in the same world as the books, but will be different, some things still rub me wrong, but overall I'm happy with the show.

  2. Still enjoying the show for what it is. Loved seeing the Blood Snows, the fever dream, Min, and the 3 beautiful girls foreshadowing (that was important to me, idk why). Not really liking the whole direction with Mat, but I'm willing to see what they do with it. The Blight, I guess works, I had different thought on how it looked. Otherwise, I'm still really liking the series.

  3. As much as I want a straight book adaption, I know it won't translate well to video format. Movies would be too long, and a series would last longer than the Simpsons. Some changes are good, some are bad. Either way, to me, it's WoT on my TV, give/take 20 years in the making. They are aiming for a GoT feel, which the books aren't, but it isn't as bad as The Legend The Seeker or Shannara. I'm getting what I expected, I just hope it lasts long enough to do the entire series, so I'll keep watching.

  4. Just watched;

Good episode, best one so far, still keeping the main story beats. Still weird how they are treating the DR, man or woman, 5 possibilities, throwing fakes on who it is.

Did the Aes Sedai break the 3 oaths in that battle? Alanna intentionally dropped those arrows on the soldiers.

Loved how they showed the taint on the OP.

Really enjoyed this episode, still struggling with how different it is from the books, but i do believe they are the best they can

  5. I watched all 3 episodes last night.

Perrin married? Ok, little weird, but i can see it for development and character reasons that are easier to explain

Two Rivers; kinda bothered me that they knew Aes Sedai on site., suppose to be more backwater

Did like the casting choices, and how the characters acted, Mat being the exception. Not fond of the tragic backstory they are giving him. He's more of a troublemaker, not a delinquent with bad parents.

Over all I really did like it, and I'm excited to see what they do with it. Kinda knew they couldn't hit every story part, but I'm glad with how they are handling the overall story so far

  6. I'm sure this has been discussed at some point, but I don't remember seeing it. What/who is the Dark One? We hear about The Creator, but never actually see any sign of him, and our in our interactions with DO, he doesn't seem to a "supernatural" being, being ignorant of many things and events. Even at the end of the series when Rand confronts him, he seems very powerless outside what his "people" do.

  7. Currently in my rereading of WoT, I'm in TSR, and Rand hasn't started, or hinted, his list yet. Lanfear reveals herself to him, he does attack her, and she does over power him since he really still doesn't know what he is doing. Several woman and children have died, some Maidens, and he hasn't yet started carrying the guilt about it he does later.

Also, the whole truth about who he is to the Maidens has yet to be revealed. It was mentioned  earlier that "the list" could be more on a psychological condition, and I can agree it looks sexist, I believe it's more a development of psychological stress, on top not having a mother figure in his life, (the village women maybe, but it seems like they didn't them as "their son"). The early books don't really show that much of an extreme in Rand. He picks up, shields, and damn near threatens Egwene and Elayne early in the TSR and on feels regret for not having full control yet over his powers.

So, my two cents, Rand is under severe stress with a predisposition to protect women since the mothers in life have either been none existant or have died.

  8. So, I'm rereading the WoT for the first time in over a decade, and I just wanted to share a particular annoyance of mine: every characterin the books assumes they know the truth and that everyone else are idiots. Currently, I'm in TSR and I just read about Elaidia's foretelling about the royal line of Andor being the key to success against the Dark One, and assumes its the line that starts when Morgase takes the throne (Rand, being the son of Tirgraine (sp?) the previous daughter-heir, is the answer to that particular foretelling). There is alot of pure ignorance and stubbornness in alot of characters.

That's it, just wanted to share/vent. Have a good day all.

  9. Mat always reminded me of Perry from LOTR, the goofball who grew up, but in this case, the people who grew up with him don't see it. I'm currently rereading the series for the first time in 10 years, and I'm in book 3, Nyn and Egwene treat all three boys as little kids, and I never thought they ever really saw them as young men. Mat gets it worst from them.

If you want a complete set of signed first editions, you could end up paying quite a bit. I recently received an e-mail from Abebooks.com about their most expensive recent sales. Check out #7 on their list:

In case you don't want to click through, here is the entry:

This makes me feel like a fool. I had all the first editions of each book, and I sold them to a friend for 50 bucks total after I finished AMoL. He wanted to read them, and I needed clear out some stuff. Oy!

  11. Actually don't think he remembers anything, he knows how the Wheel works, but doesn't actually name any specific event outside his current life that he remembers.

I've always believed Ishy bought into his own hype. Made himself seem more important to The Wheel than he really was. He was trying to impress everyone with how smart he was in understanding the Wheel, that he missed the easy answers right in front of him

  12. I don't think it was every really explained in the books, but I always took it as just a talent in that area. Like how some people are really good at math and the sciences, but struggle in the creative arts. Or a person who has perfect pitch and can't play a musical instrument. He was the one guy who broke convention with what was considered normal in the One Power strength. Andol was the guy who helped me realize I might know something but not everything, because we limit ourselves as much as we limit others.

    Hello, welcome back!

Looks like I started WoT just a few years after you... were you on DM before '09 with a different handle? There are a few of us 'oldies' still around/popping back in and out after absences who might remember ...

    Enjoy the return and re-read!

I was on WoTmania right before that shut down, I've been on and off DM, but never made an account till 09, even though I would come here right after it started. Also, never posted alot, if anyone remembers, I'd be highly surprised.

  14. I'm not really new to DM or Wot, but I've not been on in a long time (2009) and haven't read the series since AMoL came out. Started reading the series when I 15, and the series was only 6 books, it was 7 by the time I got to LoC. Been in few different Wot foruns since I started reading it, and even an email discussion group back in the old AOL days.

Figured I introduce myself, say HI, since I'll be rereading the series for the first time in a long time, and will want to talk about it.

    So,

    Hello everybody!

  15. I kinda get the same feeling about Aes Sedai, that basically their way is the best way, but Rand does it too, so does Elayne (hence her fights with nynave) nynave does it, and so does all the Forsaken. Kind of social commentary on those who hold authority. Those with authority like to use it and not be questioned. How much more authority can you have when you have the power to kill people instantly, Compel them, and down right control them. You can kind of understand why they see themselves as demi-gods. People like that can't see their faults because if the do it could confusion at a time when decisiveness is needed. That's what all that WT training is about, decision making and living with the consequences, good and bad. Add that on top of age, people who are 30 and older are pretty set in their ways and views, now multiply that 6 and 7 times. They just become much more stubborn.

If I offended some of the older crowd. Oh well.. I'm part of it. I'm speaking from experience.
