Do the Seanchan still use the ball gags on the Damane?

Rafe: I've never seen a ball gag on a damane

I think they are actually nose rings. But there is a clip from the reel that seems to show damane and they are not wearing anything on their faces. In the books damane can be treated differently so maybe this was just a punishment on the ones in the final scene.

#1. The Ways (obviously) : but to be consistent with their world and make it interesting we also want to get some Trollocs chasing them in the Ways (but now they'll need a DF channeler) ... So maybe in this next episode we find out that Liandrin is a DF.

The Ways being openable by channeling doesn't mean they can't be opened other ways.

And they won't reveal Liandrin is a DF this early.

The actors keep referring to the DR as he or she but the DR cannot possibly be a she sine Saidar was never tainted by the Dark one. Why is this in the show? Its extremely confusing when you're trying to explain the entire background and lore of the world to someone and you're having to argue with the show...

Why are you still not over it? We found out in the first scene that this was going to be a change in the show.

I understand they did it to move the plot, but I cant help but find it lazy writing that Moiraine didnt have a good reason already established for why she has been gone for 2 years. Even something as simple as "I have been recruiting", which technically would be true.

Agreed but I'm mostly ignoring it. There's no way she and Siuan wouldn't have gone over this scenario. In fact Siuan could've come up with a better question also. That said, Moiraine getting exiled isn't a huge deal for her (other than being apart from Siuan possibly permanently) and it helps their cover story even more.

I am with you on this, don't see much happening in episode 6 either.  definitely don't see fain taking the dagger yet.  But I have no idea why they would enter the ways so soon after entering tar valon.

I am definitely predicting balzamon makes a bigger appearance and might be the reason for them going to the ways.

I hope there is some action.  but episode 7 &8 are the action episodes imo. episode 6 will have the foretelling about the dragon when siuan and moiraine were younger

I think they only stayed 1 night in Caemlyn in the books, and they left after Moiraine heard all of the mentions of the Eye of the World.

to everyone saying fain will steal the dagger - Fain isnt even credited in episode 6
so HIGHLY unlikely ... but plausible I suppose

The actor is not listed in episode 5 on IMDB either, and IMDB has been wrong for some of these actors.

No one is implying the WoT is fanfic.

What is implied is that Harriet & RJ were so guarded about the use of his material. It’s difficult to understand why she allowed the story to be so refitted. Of course, adaptations need to me made, but as others have stated here some of them appear so off base and unnecessary.

Probably because she thought he'd be fine with it. She knows better than anyone.

The reason it seemed you were implying the TV show is fan fiction is because you brought up that RJ was against fan fiction, and then said "Yet, Harriet allows this." Most people who read that would take it that way.

In the books it was definitely Rand.

Yesterday I searched for the promo-teasee picture and couldn't find it, but this new one released today includes the same building!

I love this photo. Looks like they are watching a parade, which is what they are doing in a way.

Rotten Tomatoes UI is terrible about this for some reason, but this is because they started counting the individual episode reviews.

For what it's worth, when this gets compared to Game of Thrones, at least in the later seasons, since they didn't do critics screenings at all, the entire rating is only individual episode reviews. For Wheel of Time, the front page of ratings is all reviews of the six-episode critics screeners, which are 72% positive. The individual episode reviews so far are 100% positive, which is part of why I expected the aggregate rating to go up eventually, because the week by week recaps tend to be by genre fans, whereas the critics full-season preview ratings are done by larger publications that review everything and assign some full-time professional critic to batch this in with 30 other things they need to watch that week to get to print.

I swear I read some reviews by critics who had only seen 3 episodes.

Anyhow it's nice as long as it's fair. But if they really are averaging the overall % of 59 reviews with the % of 6 reviews for episode 4, it's a pretty stupid way to do it.

Changes that were unnecessary.  Moiraine never met Logain.  Moiraine and Siuan knew what they were after.  A male child born 18 years prior on the side of Dragon Mount.  Their whole plan was based on this from a foretelling.  There was no question about Logain....or Egwene or Nyneave.  None.  She would have never had that discussion with Lan, because neither fit the prophesy. I'll concede the point from the show that she wouldn't feel saidin so she wouldn't know how strong Logain was.  I won't about Aes Sedai using the One Power in battle or war.  Its a turning point in the books when Egwene decides to use it in battle because she and the new Aes Sedai never swore oaths with the oath rod.  Aes Sedai would use any other method but its use as a weapon.  Their influence with world leaders depended that much on this one oath.  They would have lost all footholds if they did.

These are why I'm not enjoying the TV show.....Changes that were unnecessary and don't make a relevant point.

You haven't made any kind of defense of your main point, which is that the changes were unnecessary. I highly disagree with this. Even with the changes, the non-readers who don't like the series often comment that it looks like a LotR clone. A lot of those same people have a lot of good things to say about the 4th episode. Bringing Logain and the Aes Sedai to the forefront early on was a must in my opinion to show how unique this story is. It is also a good way of showing, not telling, what happens to male channelers.

Doing what a lot of people claim they want would have doomed this show. They had to focus on what hooks people new to the story and keeps them watching, first and foremost.

In regards to this comment on Aluudra's feedback, this isn't very nice or welcoming. I'm in the hate category as well. I've been coming to look at things on this forum off and on for many years but have never been a commented before since I had to become a member to do so and didn't really have any compelling urge to comment. I feel the TV series has just gutted the basic premise and spirit of the books and is unnecessarily gory and bloody, profane, sexual and woman dominated.

If you think those things weren't in the books you weren't paying attention.

The fact that none of the Aes Sedai were looking at her all googly eyed before that burst of healing is what I'm disliking.  They should be able to tell at a glance just how strong she is.

I think they have changed this from the book so you have to witness someone channeling to know their strength. Moiraine knows Egwene is strong, but she has seen her channeling.

I really don't know how they are going to be able to write Episode 8 in any way even close to the books.

If it is The Eye of the World, then I shudder to think what they have in store given that Nynaeve is already a power so great that Logain would stand in awe.  If she is there at the EOTW, then all she needs to do is wipe the floor with the Foresaken as soon as she becomes upset - audience is not going to get it if she can't do her Incredible Hulk act again.  No need for Rand or any of the others to worry.  Sit back, relax, wait for Nynaeve to get angry and have her hair stand on end as she obliterates all foes. #badass #girlpower #hearmeroar

It isn't that complicated. They can easily explain her block before that, e.g. by having the Aes Sedai harass her and try to have her channel for them.

She can be too scared at the end to channel, and it'll happen too quickly for her to react.

Ok having sat back, self assessed, read Rafes Q and A and more importantly read the Eye of the World again I have come to a clear conclusion.

Eye of the World is not a unique fantasy novel, it does not make the wheel of time stand out as a fantasy trope. Very little in that book make it different to any other standard fantasy book. In Eye of the World a Wizard/witch type figure goes to a rural location, finds out that the evil force is hunting down individuals looking for something. Leads them out of said villiage.

Magic user has a stoic, skilled, bodyguard who shows little emotion and has some great dark secret. The party travel around the world, meeting people to help and find mcguffin.

I love the wheel of time series but realistically the first 2 books the world

doesn't feel Unique or different for the first 2 books I can see the Tolkien references leaping from the page. That isn’t a criticism but, Rafe needs to get through the fantasy trope bit and to the unique wheel

of time bit as quickly as possible. He needs to avoid exposition explaining the world

to the audience, because exposition bores viewers. He needs to get to the heart of what makes wheel of time different to lord of the rings and so yes, season 1 is about pushing through the setup getting the party to where they need to be for the cool bit of the story to begin.

Rafe has limited time to tell that a story, so far, yes there are some things I am questioning but I am going to wait and see how things resolve.

Well put. The people who say it would have been easy to adapt this by following the exact story of the books need to open their eyes. Even with the changes people have bashed the first 3 episodes for being a LotR clone. But then say episode 4 changes that. It was brilliant and necessary of them to bring in Logain and the Aes Sedai to try to differentiate the story from LotR.

Since meeting the loyal family of Andor is dropped, the only thing left for Rand and Mat on their separate journey would be meeting Loial and seeing Logain, which I believe will both happen in Tar Valon. So I guess they'll arrive there in Episode 5, and probably meet Loial, maybe some more moments for Mat's sickness. Not sure if they'll see Logain in Episode 5 or 6.

Perrin and Egwene will be captured by WC in episode 5. From a previous teaser/trailer showing the reunion of Egwene and Nynaeve in where I believe is the White Tower, I don't think Nynaeve will be there to save them. Moiraine and Lan may decide to leave the AS party to search for the four, but I don't think that's going to happen. So Perrin and Egwene will have to escape on their own, with some channelling, wolves, and the help of Tinkers. I also think we are going to get our first Perrin Goldeneye moment in Episode 5.

I hope the show give some time for Nynaeve to be sick due to her first outburst channelling in Episode 5, and explain about blocks and stuff. The showoff at the end of Episode 4 looks great, but it may give show viewers a biased impression that Nynaeve can "rage" over anything.

Generally agree with your prediction on episode 6 and on. I heard that the DR will be revealed at the end of Episode 7, so that's probably when Rand obviously channels  for the first time. I'm still wondering how does that rule out the other candidates. Maybe we'll see the confrontation between Siuan, Moiraine, Verrin and Rand in book 2 be adapted at the end of Episode 7. And we'll probably see the flashback of Tam's fever dream.

Nynaeve won't get sick. She had already channeled in the books and likely has in the show version as well. She just didn't know what it was.
