Few things i want to mention....
jsbrads mentioned how strange it was how it effected Mat. But keep this in mind, in the 24 hours Mat:
1. Fought trollocs in a place people did not believe in trollocs in a fortress know for not being infiltrated.
2. Learns Whitecloaks are harassing his homeland, friends' families, and maybe his own
3. Has his first meeting with the finns, ending with his being thrown out of their world.
4. Get yelled at by an AS.
5. Takes a trip to the Aiel Waste via portal stone.
6. Asked to enter a place only candidates for clan chiefs and wise ones can enter, located in a valley most Aiel will never see in their life, and is threatened by an Aiel warrior for doing that, and the WO acknowledged Coulidan had a point.
7. Hiked across a desert famous for killing people, and he wasn't allowed to bring food or water.
8. Sees his best friend start to crack up.
After all that a little peace and quite would be like a sedative. Rand was so keyed up he could ignore the effects. And even Mat's friends thought he was something of a slacker.
Him and Rand did not stay and zone out afterwords, and that scene took place in the tree's shade.
And BenevolentCow made a good point about the Aiel being charged with taking care of the Choras and items of power. The AS didn't care about those, they cared about saving the Aiel. But the Aiel were ready to die to save others, so the AS commanded them to "protect" their cargo to give the Aiel a reason to flee and look for their promised land. WOs and Clan Chiefs saw the true goal in hindsight and saw how they had really failed the AS.
If protecting the cuttings was so important the Aiel would have been all Johnny Appleseed with the cutting they could no longer carry during the breaking and in the early days after the breaking been planting whenever they found a likely place.
And at the very least, each hold of the modern Aiel would be growing a Chora.

I'm reading Gods of Mars of the John Carter books. They are public domain so I got them free on my Kindle.

The Women in Black
Daniel Radcliff was to young for the role but it did have scares. Not to bad.

Maybe you thought it was boring because you were dozing off and missing all the good stuff? Just saying, no offense, but to somebody who has never posted on this thread before and I have no idea what your tastes are in movies...I'll kindly just push your opinion off the table..
I like movies about ancient Greeks, and those movies are always exciting, except Immortals.
-
I saw Immortals, in 2D, and was bored. I never thought a movie about ancient Greeks would be boring, but his was. I almost dozed off a few times.
-
I got Cracked.com's book You Might be a Zombie and am loving it but I saw an article written by some one who we at DM all know and love is missing from the book.
I feel the need to yell Shenanigans!

I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was okay but not that great.
-
I'm reading Dies the Fire by S.M. Stirling and wondering why people are not making plate armor from car hoods.

When Rahvin and Mat "met" in tDR Rahvin asked his name and Mat got a funny feeling in the back of his head and gave some name he made up, he even avoided talking about TR. If Mat said his name was Mat Cauthorn he wouldn't have left the palace alive.

US edition Chapter 27 pg 431
"But we must make some kind of declaration," Romanda said. She was
eldest among them, and would be the one running the meeting. "Something
to make the position of the Hall known, to dissuade the Amyrlin
from an imprudent call for war."
This is the Aes Sedai talking not the Kin. Age means nothing in the AS hierarchy. Maybe he meant strongest but I'm unsure if Romanda is the strongest of that grouping or not.
Age actually has a lot of meaning in the Hall. You should go back and read some previous meetings.
It's been mentioned several times how the eldest Sitter in the Hall is the one who presides when the Hall sits.
Judging by Egwene's POV in 'Something Wrong', Perrin's forces arrive at the Field of Merrilor at most a day or two before the meeting. Rand gets there during her POV, and Gawyn is giving her information on Perrin's forces, implying that Perrin has also just arrived.
-- dwn
I took it to mean she just arrived or if she was there when Perrin arrived she was spending time is her camp going, "I must remain aloof and unapproachable because I the Amirlyin Seat and every one will do what I say because of it and Elayne said Perrin will be on my side."
While Perrin was reminding the Dragonsworn they're Dragonsworn and the Aiel they follow the Car'a'carn. While Eggy was thinking of how awesome she was Gwayne noticed Perrin was gathering support for Rand.

There's also mention of Bain & Chiad carrying Gaul's weapons as gai'shain.
I thought gai'shain are forbidden to carry weapons, without exception.
You're right, I noticed that too.
What really got me was the big Lord Captain Commander of the White Cloaks being Galad Damodred(?).
I don't have KoD handy but I remember after they started spiking Malden's aqueduct and Perrin returned to camp the report Tylee told him about the White Cloaks and how Galad Damodred took over and they broke their oaths to the Seanchan. Then Perrin's secretary was all, "So Galad Damodred killed Valda? Good for Galad Damodred, Valda was a bastard I'm glad he's dead. I feel I owe something to Galad Damodred.
Then one of the AS was saying, "A pity Galad Damodred became a White Cloak. Galad Damodred had such potential."
And Perrin said, "I don't know whats so important about talking about Galad Damodred right now."

I watched The Other Guys over the weekend. There aren't any laugh your @$$ off moments but everyone in the theater was chuckling from start to finish.
-
I watched The Losers and thought it was lots of fun. I also rented and watched The Vampires Assistant. I thought it was a different movie but I was pleasantly surprised. And the cast did a real good job. No hammy performances which look real possible considering who the star was.
-
Yesterday I saw The Sorcerer's Apprentice and wasn't expecting much. Despite the crappy beginning of the movie it was real good and a lot of fun.

The argument against it however is that none of the heroes at Falme seemed to really give a crap about Mat, except for him being the Hornsounder. Birgitte however seems to be quite impressed with him, but that could be because she actually sees the value in him.
Did Hawkwing not call Matt battlelord when the HOTH appeared at Falme asking him to sound the horn and lead them into battle? I always thought that showed that Matt was reborn because he hasn't been through the door yet and had no idea about battles.
Just because he might not have been a super general in other lives doesn't mean he wasn't meant for great things in them.

Mat's Dice is similar to another warlord in Randland, Pedron Naill. In LoC or CoS, I think, he was thinking about a battle during the Whitecloak War where he left some forces guarding a mountain range. Every one said the range couldn't be crossed at that place but Naill had a "tickle in the back of his mind" so he left the army there anyway.
Well Mattin Stephenos, king of Illian, crossed his army over the mountains and the two sides fought. The Whitecloaks almost captured Stephenos but the Companions road in and cleared the field allowing Illian to escape.
But if the army hadn't been there Illian would have suprised the Whitecloaks and have been in a postion to catch them off guard and crush them.
I think the dice is Mat's way of thinking about the "tickle in the back of his mind."
Another point when comparing Mat to Perrin and Rand's ta'vereness is between the three of them he is the only "plotter" (he is the fox) Rand and Perrin plan the broad general view but play things the details "off the cuff" (the only exception was Rand's scheme to capture Asmodean) but Mat also plans the small things and make contingencies for contingencies for contingencies.

Are we talking long term relationships or just hit and quit it? There are some WoT women I wouldn't mind for a booty call but wouldn't want to have around otherwise.
Imagine having to spend all your time with uptight, judgmental, hypocritical Egwene. Now if it was going for a ride with her every once and a while sure, but out of bed....

I'm reading Dresden Files to get ready for Changes next month.

Two jedi have used the power of a black hole to suit there own purposes. Let's see an AS do THAT!
-
The problem I have with Perrin is how obsessed he his with his wife.
His thought process....
Faile, need to eat, Faile, Faile, need to tie my shoe, Faile, need to rescue Rand from the evil Aes Sedai, Faile, Faile, Faile.
He doesn't do anything without first thinking what she thinks. I used to dislike her, not so much now, because of it.
-
But why did Moiraine leave all those precious *Angreal to the DF's?
Rand put out the word that the DF wagon drivers could "escape" as long as they didn't steal anything from the wagons. He replaced the drivers with refuges he gathered.
The cargo is now hidden in an undisclosed location as far as we know.

*claps hands*
Shoo, shoo,
Don't come back until you have read the whole series.

I was referring to the dish they had in Cairhien in tGH.
It sounded like stir fried pork. If you really want it so bad go to your nearest Chinese takout place and I'm sure they have something like that.
I never got worked up over the food served becasue with a little thought I could figure out what they were eating in "real life."

I have a whole "hidden ajah" theory about why Verin was so hot to help Rand. That would explain why she convinced herself that Moraine sent her.
I thought the idea of a "Purple Ajah" was dead and buried...
www.steelypips.org/wotfaq/2_nondark/2.2_rest-chars/2.2.7_verin.html
Second Foundation Ajah Theory (aka Purple Ajah Theory)
Theory: Verin is a member of a secret society whose members preserve ancient knowledge for humanity's need at the Last Battle. The existence of the BA shows that it is possible for a secret group to exist in the Tower-- if there is a group dedicated to evil, why not a group dedicated to good?
Problem: There have always been rumors of the BA. Nothing can be kept secret for centuries in a place with so many people in it, and so much scheming as the White Tower. And yet, we've never heard any hint of this secret group.
I'd be amazed if a "secret Ajah" suddenly rocks up at TG.
purple ajah!
dont be absurd
if they would choose a colour for a new ajah it would be orange!
(and the thought of having a secret ajah dedicated to good is stragne on this account)
all ajahs serve the light (except black)
well there supposed to.. right?
My hidden ajah theory is more along the lines that one of the "lesser ajahs" mentioned in the BWB at the founding of the Tower split up and joined the other ajahs but kept in contact with each other and their original purpose, to find and serve the Dragon Reborn.
