It seems to be that this story, this book cannot truly be adapted to a television show without it being absolutely pulverized. The story I love, the chatacters I know, will have been pictured and realized by another man probably quite differently than my own imagination. I don't feel confident what so ever based on what I've read that there will be any semblance of Robert Jordan's world left on the screen when thier done manipulation to suit viewing audiences and current social trends.
I agree, it won't be 100% the same but sometimes it is fun to see people's interpretations. Hollywood does remakes of classic literature all the time and most of the time they are great. With Broadway plays and musicals the same plays are redone with interpretive license, even operas are redone keeping close to the original but with different actors in the roles you can have a great success or a flop. A lot of money is being put into this project because they don't want another Shannara or Goodkind's Sword of Truth where it gets one or two dismal seasons. The networks, and fans, are craving something of the caliber of GOT, so I believe things might be interesting enough to watch. And of course all of fandom will be reignited with millions of new fans just being exposed to the books so that will be really great as well.

Thanks for the post. Good background perspective.
Yes, very nicely done. This came as a tall, cold glass of water after a long crawl across the desert that lasted years.

That was asked and answered. He told us that Harriett wasn't wanting that. It is something about the ending of the WOT, which we all missed. It might have been posted, but it was something he said he wasn't asked about.
-
I suspected it had something to do with the rights being sorted out, this is even better!
-
Um, did I miss it? Still nothing posted.

I've been checking since first thing this morning, hope it is something good! No, scratch that, I hope it is something very exciting!

Still, Jason Denzel's book seems to have an intriguing plot. I'll definitely get the kindle edition.

Seriously? Once again the Colorado/Utah/Wyoming/Montana areas are being neglected. Way to go California, with SIX stops! At least New Mexico gets a mention, but only because G.R.R.M. is hosting? What about New York? Denver? St. Louis? The person planning this must have been throwing darts at a map trying to make a smiley face. Must have struggled with California, and then ran low on darts for the Midwest and northern East Coast.

Agreed! (stated without emotion or feeling) "Forgive me. Forgive me. Forgive me." I've seen better quality from fans. Low budget? No budget. Anyone watching it would have no idea what is going on, maybe thinking it a period piece or something from a Jane Austin novel and confusing as all get-out. Even as a WOT fan, the lines delivered vaguely clued me in to what it was supposed to be. How unfortunate that this was a last minute rush job with no fan or team consultation. I mean...my God...take a cue from the audiobooks! Maybe they can re-release it with voice over from the audiobooks? A simple dialogue well delivered could have done much more than angel-wing lightning and half the show with LTT chasing imaginary children. I mean...you just found out you killed your entire family. Deliver the "forgive me" line with passion and anguish and tremble as if calling a powerful force, make his eyes blaze white, and insert a cheap lava eruption stock footage shot from Hawaii and it would have been better.
Why hold onto rights when you aren't doing anything with them? Is Game of Thrones or another show paying to withhold this series? Seems like someone paid REE to produce a crappy pilot to sandbag the entire project.
And last but not least, the next step has been taken, and aside from trying way too hard for the "high fantasy" approach and obvious issues, it's finally out. Here's to hoping for the next step and some funds and consultation to do it justice!

I never saw this before, it was surprisingly well done for a fan film with next to no budget. Just goes to show what can be accomplished by people with a common goal.

Way too cool. How is it that I've only just learned of these?

First, it always struck me that the bridge was Cuendillar, but that was always a bit odd too. How when rivers changed and the world was all mixed up and roads buried and cities cast up onto mountains did a bridge conveniently come to be placed perfectly? My only thoughts on it is that maybe it was an iron bridge that once crossed a chasm or some such or perhaps after the breaking one of the last Aes Sedai who could make Cuendillar turned an old iron bridge into the White Bridge. Interesting to ponder its creation and location.

Very well made video, I'm still laughing!

The dreams were always within T'A'R, which is why Rand took injury, and why there was a thorn to be removed.

Wow! The Aiel sketch was awesome then I scroll past Neanderthal Sandar, I get hit with the awesomeness of Neverborn and the Twisted Ones! Anyone notice Avatar snuck into the last one above?

I understand that people are willing to pay the high price, especially when you slap a charity tag on the item and limit the quantity, but I still think that it is way too high a price for a pack of cards. I really don't like being negative, I just suppose that what my main complaint is, is that we don't know how much is going to the Mayo Clinic.
I've worked a lot of fundraisers and understand that you can have more success with people just donating money rather than offering a cheap item for a large cost, with the proceeds going to charity. Too many people are hit up all the time to support schools, breast cancer awareness, clubs, and they would rather just give $25 rather than buying an item with only a small fraction going to help out.
If they posted $10 of each purchase goes to support research at the Mayo Clinic then I'd be all over buying a few decks since I would know a large portion is going to a really great cause.
-
Wow, $25 for a simple deck of playing cards? People aren't dumb, TT. We know for a run of 1000 decks it costs just under $2 per pack. Considerations to the artist, RJ's Estate, and donation to Mayo Clinic aside this smacks of price gouging. Love the idea and the artwork, just hate the gouging.

Everything has taken way too long to develop, there has been no clear direction, no projections or plans of any kind. Had someone else been on top of this, the series would rival Lotr and have movies by now. I wonder if Peter Jackson is free...

One thing that I never got was how Aginor was starting to heal just tapping into the Eye. Given his condition, and the inability of people to heal themselves, the Eye seemed to allow him to do this .

It would be great to see DKS unfinished cover, especially if it is so great and not yet finished. I'm thinking inside cover to, sort of a "surprise" to us readers when we open the cover...

I don't think the frustration is aimed at Brandon, it's aimed at TOR with this release date. Pushing for November 2011 allowed them extra time to polish it up. I smelled a rat when they got on Brandon for announcing that the first draft was finished, and this is why.
Like in the comments above, the WOT community who received the ARC's (advance reader copies) for editing reasons nailed all the typos and continuity errors in days the last few books. This smacks of complacency with TOR that we will buy the books anyways and trying to milk the series with re-releases and new covers.
Cool for us, but when they fail to invest in advertising in the later books compared to earlier books just goes to show you how they think these released will be a shoe-in for New York Times Bestseller and awards for 2013. But the community has already predicted potential manipulation of the release date so it's no surprise to many of us. We complained that November was too far out for their swearing to get it to us as humanly possible, so it's two more months than what they said...yah, grand scheme of things not too much of a big deal. Least they could do to sweeten the deal is announce if the Outriggers are a go or not. Maybe I should use a Tor-like approach paying my mortgage and all my bills. "I said I was looking to pay in November, well, I've decided to push it back to January." lol

I agree that Eye of the World looks like some old sailing novel, Rand in the rigging is not the best image for TEOTW, however I like The Great Hunt cover, but lots of disappointment. Very underwhelmed and surprised at finding myself posting it, it's disappointing.

Wow. RIP DKS. Many people complained of his art but many more loved it. It drew us to pick up that first book, whether it was The Eye of the World or Towers of Midnight. It was a gateway that led us into RJ's world. Ask a hundred of us to paint you the images we best thought fit as covers, you would have a hundred different images. Ask us to draw the same scene, you would have a hundred different faces for each character. Such is the wonder of RJ making his tale vivid in our minds, the tale in our own making in our imaginations. DKS put to fine work what many of us could not even attempt outside the canvas of our minds. May the Mother welcome you into her last embrace, and the Creator shelter you in the palm of His hand.

Went to my local B&N bookstore, and they didn't have it. I've noticed that RJ's books haven't been a major stocked items, lots didn't have TGS or TOM for the release day for hardback or Paperback. Kind of disappointing seeing that it's not a priority for a lot of booksellers.
