  1. No, being born at Dragonmount is unrelated to looking different from all the other people in Two Rivers, so it isn’t even a hint. Moraine didn’t need to consider Rand more than any other teen and she had no reason to presume Rand over Mat and Perrin once the targeted attacks happened. The first clue she gets is Bela not being tired. And even that isn’t enough, it just meant Rand could channel, not that he was the Dragon Reborn. Moraine is looking for The DR, the DO could have just been targeting men Terminator style who would resist the DO and help the DR.

  2. Prophecy means fate that can’t be stepped aside. If Tigraine was kidnapped by friends of her husband, and he took the throne, leading to disaster in Andor while Tigraine would have played a similar arc to Morgase... stay away to stay alive. Freed by the Aiel from her kidnappers and no way to return, she joins the Maidens, births Rand on Dragonmount...

Or she waits until Laman’s Sin, the fighting goes thru Andor instead, she ends up leading an army against the Aiel, gets captured, falls in love with Janduin, refuses to leave him, he doesn’t know what to do, in a moment of weakness he falls for her too, the fighting continues all the way to Dragonmount where she is lost on the mountain, shortly after joining the Maidens.

  3. LoL, y’all acting like Moraine had one lead. She had thousands of leads. How many babies were born near Dragonmount in a period of time? How many rumors as to who took which child? Where did they go?

Moraine’s lead to Tam wasn’t marked with an * indicating this one was the Dragon reborn.

Rand was baby 1857th on a list of thousands. Tam married a redhead, no one in TR had any reason to believe Rand wasn’t Kari’s child. Moraine didn’t have Tam’s name and home address on the back of a postcard. Any outsider would have assumed Mat’s father was the one who had a son born outside. If Mat’s mom and dad had gone to Dragonmount during the Aiel war, Abel could have had Mat there and then have a bunch of other children who look just like him and his wife and Mat could be the Dragon Reborn.

  4. Much like Tigraine had to go to the Aiel Waste, Luc had to go to the blight.

the alternative would have been far less pleasant to both and to everyone else around them.

If Tigraine hadn’t gone to the Aiel, the Aiel would have come to her. Or she would have been kidnapped in some plot and tried to be sold in Shara, only to be captured by the Aiel...

If Luc hadn’t gone, trollocs may have invaded south and keeping him for a later snack which never happened...

  5. But if the Dark One was Rand, he also took on the warded bond with the women and love of the women... then living a happy go lucky life from this point on, he would love his children, and fake it until he made it with everyone else, so DO would become the good guy.

meanwhile Rand would be in The Box for 3000ish years and want to end the world when they try to open the Bore...

  6. The bore wasn’t drilled into a weak prison, but drilled into the pattern aka “perfect” prison. The perfect prison doesn’t age. Only the patched bore ages because its seals are only interwoven with Cuellidar and can be corrupted and damaged by evil.

  7. By the time Faile pulled that crap with tricking Loial, Perrin had already saved her in Telrhoid when they first got to Tear. Until that point, I saw no real interest on Perrin’s part (other than some physical attraction). Once Perrin sacrifices for Faile, that is a very binding experience.

  8. Seanchan new the Dragon was reborn, and they also have the prophecy that the Dragon would bow before the Empress, may she live forever.

No one knew how Turak died.

Hawkwing fighting for Randland is a good question. Tho it isn’t clear how many people saw Hawkwing.

The threat to Sandar may have been form of speech, not a real threat.

  9. There are definitely huge tangents that started in LoC, Saerin in the Tower one example to cut to simplify the story, being introduced to almost a dozen new people without advancing the story and in no way critical to the story line?

To tighten the storyline, there were a number of things opened which never got tied in the end. So Habor, Hindersnap? Remove.

    Need to close, Seanchan.

    Fix Mat, yes.

  10. I’m basically gonna disagree with everyone on the size of apartments.

People don’t seem to recognize how wealthy we are today. Novice quarters were twice as big as Harry Potter’s room under the stairs. A bed much more narrow than our twin, more like a prison cot. Imagine a footlocker for storage, a few hooks on the wall, an elementary school sized desk/table and a chair and very little floor space. Accepted, 20-30% larger. And while the Aes Sedai’s bedroom may be bigger, since she has a second room, it doesn’t need to be twice as big. Her public room may sit three or four people around something the size or a card table. A comfortable chair, room for a couple of chests a few bookcases and just enough room to walk by their poor standards.

The Tower is round, two people mentioned square.

The 7 pie sections make sense. Each Ajah has access to the lowest living quarters floor and the highest.

Stairs... while younger, I occasionally enjoyed running up the 10 flights at my first office job.  That said, going up or down 22-44 ish stories is insane even expecting that people in those days walked everywhere.

The Stone of Tear isn’t as tall, but the Stone is much wider.

  11. Granny’s Favorite, pretty sure the punishment for murder is execution.

Black Ajah killed babies, we saw that starting in New Spring.

Red Ajah’s error was stilling Owen, Thom’s nephew, and leaving him in “the wild”. A violation of due process (no trial) deserving a slap on the wrist, but when Owen was defenseless and lynched by townsfolk, it kinda got elevated to a weird almost 3rd degree Manslaughter, so some of those women got blamed, and got the book thrown at them.

Witless, yes the king commanded the tree get cut down, but the people listened and cut it down. And in Aiel history the trees are more than sacred, countless Aiel lives were sacrificed to save the tree. I have a whole theory about the trees were the purpose of the Aiel people, and the way of the leaf was constructed to allow the Aiel to protect the trees, we know the obedience to Aes Sedai was only added later at the end of the AoL.

  12. Tinker children removed from their culture do seem to lose that culture. The White Tower being the strongest childhood culture eraser in the world. Yes, women most often choose to wear the clothing of their home country and hair, but beyond that, there isn’t strong ties to the way they grew up. I’ll admit, the last Ajah I expect to find a tinker is the Green, but to spend her life searching for the song sounds wrong too. The sea folk women live in the Tower, far from any sea port, tho admittedly, they do keep the secret until their deaths.

As to Agelmar, for someone who often sees the Aiel in uniform, seeing a group of similarly dressed boys from a village, the might override the recognition. As Gawayn calling him Aiel, that makes very little sense as his family and Tigraine’s family have coloring like Rand.

  13. Yes, but it stretches the imagination that a farming village would include a family with only one child, that child is male, generation after generation. And although not as close a relation, his grandmother and great grandmother were only children as well?

  14. Obviously, the Kin and Ebou Dar wasn’t written when the girls first arrive in the Tower as novices. Also, the girls spent so little time in the Tower that there was little time to explore that world.

There should be an expression of frustration against the Aes Sedai, particularly among novices, something like:

I’m so tired I wish I could get as far from here as Ebou Dar.

phrases which the novices themselves don’t fully understand the meaning.

I’m sure y’all can come up with better phrases, let’s hear ‘em.
