Well this is an interesting thread with a lot of great comments. I have read the series many times. I have always appreciated Egwene's hero's journey which RJ has all the Emond's Fielders on their own hero's path. Rand's is the most intense with Egwene close behind. But ultimately Egwene was a warrior and died a warriors death. It was a good death ,as battle deaths go, and it made a huge difference. I feel confident it bound her to the Horn of Valere. As such I celebrate her and do not mourn her passing. A good death is all any of us can hope for. That our lives made a difference and the end is quick and clean. Raise a glass and remember her well!!!

Well it has been a while since I visited Dragonmount. It is good to see that we can still have spirited discussions. My observation on this topic is that the WOT universe is pretty violent in most of the cultures described with the exception of the Traveling People. At least Nyn isn't carving people up with knives like the women do in Ebou Dar. As far as the original point of liking or not liking we are all free to decide that for ourselves based on the character. Just like in RL. I always liked Nyn right from the beginning. She took no crap from anybody, had a high sense of duty and was brave. If it took a stick to put the fear of Nyn into particularly dense men then good on her, She mellows as do all young folks when they age. But she remains kicks.

Hi, I don't think gender roles were the reason the show tanked. Nor was it the deviations from the source material except perhaps indirectly. Apples Foundation series is an example of them taking one of my favorite SF series and wandering pretty far afield from the source material while still telling a high quality story. There were two major problems: The writing team didn't have the skill to make the changes they did and still keep the focus on the development and growth of our young Edmonds Field heroes. They lost the plot or never truly understood what made the story special. It also doesn't seem to have the darkness and violence that American audiences want although the violence was more graphic than it needed to be. The second is that the story was owned by a shopkeeper (Jeff Bezos) who was trying to top GOT and it became clear that that wasn't going to happen he threw a hissy fit and cancelled it instead of plowing along. I don't understand streaming economics but season three was up from 2. It could have been recovered.
