  1. I use to tutor math. Depends on what it is I suppose. I can't stand quadratic equations. I know how to do them, just detest them is all. I prefer trig. Good luck, I know how hard it is to study when you don't like the subject. I am actually thinking of taking some courses. Lily you have inspired me.

Welcome, R0st3r! I third what they said. Glad you found the Wheel of Time books and our beloved DM.
  3. Welcome, Kevala. The social groups are a lot of fun. Here you can be an Aiel, a darkfriend, a wolf, an Aes Sedai, and the list goes on. It might help you glean some insight for your book too. Hope to see you there.
  4. Especially when it is so beneficial to the learning process. People complain about the youth of today not being able to think and function as well as previous generations I think not having art and music is part of that issue. The other of course is video games and the lack of parental involvement. It is all tied into what is wrong with our public education system. Just as a disclaimer: I did home educate my boys. They are both very functional, intelligent men who have awesome careers. Both are in positions where a bachelors degree was required for employment and neither of them has one. One even supervises people with master's degrees. It isn't because they are super smart, it is because they have critical thinking skills that aren't taught and art and music help develop those skills. They are a gateway for expression which leads to critical thinking.
  5. I think that if there isn't sentient life out there, then it is an awful waste of space. Art benefits society by opening the doors of creative thought and imagination. Which leads to invention and improving one's life. I am not an artist either, but I can appreciate it's purpose in fulfilling a need to be creative.
  6. I love tin foil dinners. I do mine with ground beef due to dietary restrictions. I also love Dutch oven cooking over a hot coal. We haven’t done much camping since the boys got married and moved out. I was hoping to go camping this fall, but our business is interfering with the plans. Too many other trips. I love camping. The more primitive the better for me. Of course, I say that and am reminded I can't sleep on the ground anymore. I can't lay flat, so I have no clue what I will do when we do get to go camping. Enjoy your hiking trip. Yes, when backpacking you can't carry much and you have to carry out the trash too. So, limits what you can take.
  7. Congratulations to both of you. Bondings are fun. *grabs some hot cocoa and a hot dog* This is an awesome way to celebrate too.
  8. My daughter lives in Seattle. She hates the heat in Arizona. She is the only kiddo living out of state. The other 2 live 6 miles and 30 miles from me. I love forests.
  9. I keep a tab open too sometimes. I have left it open overnight before. *giggle* My office is after all in my house.
  10. You can do it. Just take it one day at a time. It is like eating a whole elephant. You do it one bite at a time.
  11. Yes!!! You just had to get back in the groove of things is all.
  12. Congratulations! The uniform suits you. Oh, noodle swords!! Ladria and I (A Green Aes Sedai) got kicked out of a toy store once playing with those. We happen to be with a sister of the Brown Ajah too. Somehow only us Green Sisters got the actual kicking out. *giggle* Sadly neither of them are still here at the site. So, have fun with those and no getting kicked out of toy stores.
  13. Try listening to some calming music. Like a movie score you like. When I need to get in the zone for work I listen to the Braveheart soundtrack. Works like a charm. Also, cut yourself some slack. It has been a very long time since you took a test. Might have just been that.
  14. I think the pressure might make you nervous so you get a lower grade. Just a thought.
  15. You will be awesome at it too. I am so proud of you for taking this giant leap. You have always helped me through stuff. About time other profit from your caring and understanding heart.
  16. Happy belated Birthday. I hope you did something fun and or outrageous.
  17. Greetings my DM family, I joined DM back in 2007 and took a leave of absence for a few years. *I am the sister Lily refers to* I started reading WoT in 2004 when a friend gave me Eye of the World. I was hooked from the first introduction of Matrim Cauthon. He is my favorite character. Dovie'andi se tovya sagain! (It's time to toss the dice) - Matt Cauthon, The Fires of Heaven I am a proud mother of 3 adult children, the oldest is 32, youngest is 28. I have one granddaughter that I adore. We also adopted 7 more that are our daughter-in-law's nieces and nephews. I have been married to my hubby since 1987. Some happy times, some not so happy of course. We are doing well and seems age has mellowed both of us. He is a fire engineer/paramedic with a local fire department. I love crafts. I have a large craft room that sadly these days I haven't been able to use often enough. I own a business that sells and services radios used by public safety agencies. Mostly we sell to wildland firefighters. We also have a vast product line to help smaller agencies, things like safety glasses, flashlights, hose, nozzles etc... This keeps me rather busy. Hubby does the repairs and installs for me. *grin* I have two cats, or rather they have me. I am their human pet. I am Green in my soul. I have had to be a fighter most of my life. Either due to health issues, ignorant people, parents who didn't believe in me or just nonsense of life. I try to see the positive in everything. After all worrying accomplishes nothing and causes an upset stomach.
  18. Why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway?
  19. I don't really care for the game either. However, if one of the grandkids picks it up I will become a huge supporter of them and their team. Just not the sport. Never have I ever been to a World Series game. (This is my sport by the way, oh baseball for those who don't know)
  20. I got hooked on Harry Potter when book 1 came out on paperback. My son was in the hospital and someone gave him the book and we began reading it. He was 6 and not an avid reader yet. My boys were hooked immediately. We had to wait for the rest of the books and it was hard sometimes. Never have I ever been divorced. Been married more than 31 years to the same guy. Oh, there are times either one of us could have walked away, but we didn't and we are very happy now. I am not saying you have to be ashamed if you have been divorced. My daughter divorced her first husband and we were happy she did. He was abusive. She had to flee the country to get away from him actually.
  21. I only went skiing once, my honeymoon. Needless to say, my clumsiness didn't help. I have balance issues as well, so I haven't been since for my health. Never have I ever liked the heat. This is weird since I live in the hot desert where it gets 120F/49C and above for a week or so every year. We are only supposed to be 106F/ 41C today.
