So, if people want to keep the BT, I have the time and ideas. (I am chaos, I'll always have ideas). But I'm also supportive of letting things go when there isn't the member support to keep it. (And member support should be more than 2-5 people.... 🤷‍♀️

That’s a bit how I feel too. I don’t have the energy or ideas, but I’d be sad to let the BT go. If other people don’t respond, I’d say shut it down, unless you want to take over as Dragon, but I know you have a ton of responsibilities already on DM so I’m not sure if you’d be interested in that

  2. So as I’m sure you’ve all noticed, the BT has like no activity and hasn’t had any for a while. The show is unlikely to bring new members here for another 1-2 seasons I think, since the BT will probably be introduced then. I don’t have the time or energy atm to lead the BT, so I’m asking for the votes of the somewhat recently active members. Do you think the BT should be shut down? If not, what can be done to increase activity?

    Thank you!
I read the ranks section of the BT information thread and the points thread right now, but what is the rank dragon?

The rank Dragon belongs to the Club Leader, it’s just a fun title. We don’t really have a Dragon currently due to people being busy, or not being active, but when we do, they’re the Club Leader. Hopefully that makes sense and let me know if you have any other questions!

(I’m sorry this is so late, I haven’t had much time for DM lately but hopefully I’ll have more time now that things have settled down a little)

  4. Hey! Sorry this is so late, my life has been really busy, but that’s an explanation, not an excuse. You know the drill, name, rank, faction. 5 points for that and 5 for answering this question: What’s your favorite season of the year?

My favorite season is probably fall, it’s nice to feel cozy when it gets cold.

um.. Vacationing with the Husband, and ACTUALLY having a good time. 😄 No stress.

Summer River trips with the Kids are always a blast, and very memorable.

That sounds great! Very happy for you!

Haha, my ace being will be happy for you while enjoying garlic bread far away from any such things

Thank you! I don’t mind spoilers, but I am a little confused about the points thing. I understand the rankings, but how to earn them is a little unclear

At the moment, the best way to earn them is through Roll calls. The system is designed to have more members than we currently do, but if you want, starting or participating in games is a good way to earn points. If you want to start a game where a certain amount of participation equals X points, feel free to PM me, and we can work out the points.

Here are some games to start with if you’re interested:

    Just A Silly Game

Where in the WoT World Am I?

Doing anything particularly fun or creative will probably result in my giving you points for that, otherwise just general participation will earn you points (I’m still working out a system for how much/many).

Questions are welcome, and good luck!

  7. I’m pretty sure everyone knows how to do this, but just in case, name, rank, faction. 5 points for that, 5 for answering this question: Since it’s the end of the year, what was your favorite moment from this year?

My favorite moment was probably either spending time with my friend, or getting to start my medical transition.

Hello, I recently joined BT and wanted to introduce myself. I am on book seven right now and joined a few weeks ago. I want to make my way up the ranks as fast as I can to help the Light. (I will most likely change my name soon, I chose it when I was at the end of book five, so I didn’t know about the Ashaman)

Welcome! We’re glad to have you!

You’re completely welcome here, but since you’re on book seven, I figured I’d give you a warning. We don’t spoiler tag book material here, so if you’re worried about spoilers, it might be better to come back when you’re done with the series. If you don’t care about spoilers, feel free to dive in! Either way, you’re always welcome here at the BT

  9. Wow, it’s already November! Since we have a new arrival, here’s how this works. State your name, rank, and faction (if you don’t have one just say no faction). You get 5 points for that, and 5 for answering this question: What’s your favorite tv show or movie? (Questions are optional, you just won’t get the points if you don’t answer).

    Storm Leader, Mod, Logain

My favorite show changes quite a bit, at the moment, I think I would have to say Good Omens

  10. October Points:

Aman: 776 (Roll Call and Staff)

    Rank: Attack Leader

    Staff: Mod and Logain

    Faction: Light

Dar'Jen: 454 (roll call and question)

    Rank: Attack Leader

    Faction: Light

  11. I’m pretty sure either RJ or BS said that the Dark One can never win (because the Wheel has been turning infinitely, he’ll never be able to win because he never could in the past/future), but I love this idea! Really adds a lot of interesting depth to the DO (who I think could’ve used a lot more fleshing out as an entity) and the idea of the cycle. It’s entertaining to think of him wanting to play the game but not win, especially with the parallel of Moridin and Sha’rah (that old board game).

So while I think it’s disproven by the canon, there could be a fun loophole of the DO hasn’t realized he can’t win and for all intensive purposes, your theory would be right. He’d play the game and purposely lose, without ever realizing the outcome can’t be different.

Thanks for the theory, I really like the perspective!

Perhaps people are "encouraged" to disappear? I mean it has been mentioned that its not safe for people to critique the show here, perhaps such people get scared off after threats of a sinister death.

People are really passionate here, and to give my honest opinion, DM sucked and was pretty toxic on both sides while the show was coming out. It’s gotten a lot chiller, but I think some people (including me) were scared off by the general aggressiveness, regardless of how you felt about the show. I don’t think there’s any good way to handle those situations as a mod. I don’t agree with some of the choices made, but I’ve also never been a mod on a scale as large as the whole of DM. Any “extra” rules here or a vibe mostly seem to me like trying to discourage both sides from making it a bloodbath like last year. Some bias is going to exist no matter what, but I don’t see anyone being overly extreme in their opinions/moderation.

Besides, DM has always seemed to me like a small community. Everybody knows everybody, you know who fights with who, etc. We aren’t like Reddit where fighting is constant and the more controversial your opinion the better. More often than not, you’ve interacted with the person you’re arguing with before and I think that makes people moderate their words/think a bit more about how to respond in a respectful way. I do agree that DM is a bit more show favorable, but (from almost every instance I’ve seen unless people are already looking for a fight) as long as you state your opinion respectfully and it’s not bigoted, people are usually willing to discuss/debate respectfully as well.

Drama is going to happen everywhere, but I feel like DM has relatively little of it compared to other places. The only exception I can think of was last year which was new for everyone (and Reddit didn’t exactly allow unbiased discussion so we had a lot more people I haven’t seen since they got done arguing).

These are just my thoughts/what I’ve noticed, and I think it’s good for people to form their own opinions after gathering information, so if you have a different opinion, that’s fine. It’s no more or less valid than mine.

(Btw, this is pretty off-topic, so we might consider asking for the thread to be moved so as to not derail the original thread)

and almost no one had read (or even heard of) the books before seeing the film

This is just my two cents. Both the HTTYD books and movies are excellent. As separate things. I think your point can be applied to the movies’ success, in that not many people have read the books. But both are great, you just have to view them as separate things. Does that mean no one can criticize it? No! Everyone can like that they like and hate what they hate, I really don’t care (as long as it’s not for bigoted reasons). People can definitely get very passionate about things they enjoy, and that’s great! But at the end of the day, everyone has their own opinion, and it’s best to just take what you like and leave what you don’t. Movies and TV shows are supposed to be fun, so let them be!

  15. Alright! Fall is really here, and for a lot of people, that means Halloween. So, in addition to your name, rank, and faction, what are your plans for Halloween/this month? 5 points for your info, and 5 for the question!

    Aman

    Storm Leader, Mod, Logain

    Light

I'm really busy this month, and don't celebrate Halloween much anyway, so mostly just school. I'm looking forward to it getting colder though!

Question: For those going back to school, how’s it going? For those who aren’t, do you like not going or wish you were coming back?

I personally am being crushed by school (also got sick. Yay) and as much as I hate summer, kinda wish I was back in it.

Yeah, I agree with @CaddySedai. I haven’t read the books, but I love the LOTR trilogy (hobbit is bleh), and I get similar vibes to that, so I’ll probably keep watching. I’d recommend at least checking out the first couple episodes.

Thanks! I did the first one yesterday, I had a somewhat similar opinion to yours after one episode. Boring but great cinematography.
