  1. Thanks, Lavandula! I will help myself to the delicious goodies you've offered us. I'm looking forward to getting to know the lay of the land here at DM a bit better. When I signed up earlier this summer it seemed like even the old-timers were a bit confused about what was going on given the new site.
  2. Many thanks @Taymist! Now I'm nervous as a novice waiting to be added to the rolls...because that's what I am.
  3. I have read, understood, and agreed to abide by the rules here. I have also filled out the form. I patiently await word from the Mistress of Novices.
  4. Hi y'all, new here and have a few questions I wasn't able to find elsewhere. Apologies if the answers are hidden in plain sight. How do I join an ajah (i.e. get it put under my name when posting)? I want to be a Brown. I hope there's a way to skip the novice and Accepted lines, as I have years of wilder experience. Is this library room where the Browns hang out? ::Distracted while trying to identify a bird that landed outside my window:: Sorry, did I say I had a few questions? I guess I only had the two.
  5. @Elgee Whoa, an invitation from the Amyrlin herself! I'm trying to find the slippery Aes Sedai message within the message here. You say I can click on the leave button but you don't say that I'll actually be able to leave. Maybe I'll just...hang around in Baerlon for a while and, um, figure out the world on a my own a bit. Do some sightseeing in the Mountains of Mist, that sort of thing.
  6. I can empathize with you about some things in Elayne and Egwene's arcs. Hell, in lots of characters' arcs. But I can't see how being a darkfriend is a viable response to the repulsion you feel at self-righteousness or thirst for power. Darkfriends are every bit as unethical as the worst Whitecloak or non-BA Aes Sedai, they pose no real alternative to being for the Light. Not if you care about being a decent human in Randland, that is. And since your critique seems to arise from the desire to not be morally hypocritical, how does turning to the Dark solve this? It doesn't. To me, this embracing the Dark stuff just comes off as its own form of self-righteousness.
  7. Howdy, I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I've had to stay away from DM for years because I hadn't finished the books and didn't want spoilers. I've been reading since high school, probably 1997 or so. I made various attempts over the years to complete the series, always getting stuck and starting over. I finally finished a few weeks ago and have been enjoying full fandom participation, reading fan theories I haven't been able to read before, and generally loving having completed WOT. I made a screen name here because it's so hard not to weigh in on certain things and now I'll get to!
