Oh was that what it was?

I'm always suspicious of that sort of activity. Call me crazy but I think it could just as easily be activists leaving bad reviews so people will feel sympathetic as people not liking what the main actress said about diversity in some interview. I dunno, either way it's dumb and I wish people wouldn't do it whoever they are and whatever their reasons. There are better ways to address the movie (if it needs addressing) than leaving fake reviews on rotten tomatoes.

/shrug there appear to be 3 lines of discontent

That the main actress asked for more diversity in the interviews (although I think she was more blunt in her phrasing and initially asked for fewer white middle aged males, and later clarified more diverse). Also that she's being paid significantly more for her first movie than eg Robert Downey Jr was for ironman 1, although I think this is correct I haven't seen any analysis that compares her first pay with eg the payscales in Spiderman, black panther, antman etc (or other first films since the universe became so popular). the marvel universe films are a different beast now to 20 odd films ago

That captain marvel was initially a male character(?)

That they think endgame will all be about captain marvel and sideline the other main characters (this would be a mistake if done, but I see little reason to believe that's the plan, it does seem from contracts if nothing else that marvel will be one of the core group for the next phase)

Regardless I agree it's dumb, and I enjoyed the film more than I thought I would (my misgivings being that I generally dislike heroes that are super super super powered, or at least get bored by their plotlines. I appreciate the irony in someone that enjoys superhero films and fantasy in general). But I enjoyed the marvel/fury dynamic, laughed a fair bit and generally enjoyed it

From a different perspective, its currently my niece's favourite MU film, and captain marvel is her favourite character, but she's more of a DC fan at the moment from watching the DC school series(?) and she does enjoy super powered female heroes in general

Not yet. I heard it bombed in theaters.

Looking at stats I think the 7th strongest MU opening and the third strongest march opening

I think it was downvoted on Rotten tomatoes pre release as some people disliked Brie Lawson making a vocal point about asking her interviews to include more diversity

  3. For me the danger lies with bigger, badder, stronger. I get bored when the fights just come down to who has the bigger weapon. Civil War did really well in keeping the big fights engaging, infinity war slightly less. I don't need a bigger baddie, I need more antmans lol, where the character matters more than the power

  4. I think I disagree about the need for name recognition now. I think the name recognition is the marvel universe now, more than any individual characters

From a point of view I'd argue that the DC characters are far better known to the general public, but the films taken as a whole don't do nearly as well (Nolan's batman did really well and wonder woman (but I may be equating critical with public lol), but the rest?). So it's not really the 'brand/character' recognition, but the result and mcu have built up a lot of good will. At some point they'll reach saturation but I'm not sure they're there yet. Mark Ruffalo has a few movies left on his contract at least, and I'm pretty sure there are sequels to black panther as well as Spiderman planned

  5. Sul'dam able to channel isn't widely known still, although I imagine Aes Sedai will spread rumours as soon as they can

I suspect it would have been a greater plot point in the outriggers :/

It's interesting to consider how much it would matter though. Randlanders likely wouldn't care, and the true Seanchan are ingrained with obeying orders from those higher up, so if Fortuna proclaims it doesn't matter, maybe they carry on as normal?

just read in the companion a few days ago who ratted Eg out, it wasn't Aran'gar.  It was someone who later said they were sorry when she was being held and started to work for her.

Was it Nicola? Can't quite remember

Aran'gar and Delena seem like more "Let's wrap it up" wasted potential.

Did Aran'gar accomplish anything with his rebirth?

Aran'gar, this is the Great Lord.  I have pulled you back from the brink of oblivion for a mission of utmost importance.  Heed me well.

I obey and serve, Great Lord.  What is it you wish of me?

The young Amyrlin girl...  The Amgirlin...  I wish you to infiltrate her camp.  Position yourself close to her, ingratiate yourself, kill whoever stands in your way.

    Yes, of course.  And then?

And then...  Then, my minion, you shall give her mildly inconvenient headaches.  Like, really bad ones that put her in a bad mood.  And then she's all grumpy after.

    ...Headaches, Great Lord?

HEADACHES!  And she'll have no idea where they come from!  Teehee!

Is it ever shown 'how' the Seanchan test women?  How is it that the suldam weren't caught in any reasonable testing method?

If they just walked through crowds 'feeling' for women who could channel, they'd find the suldam.  Several Aes Sedai report being able to tell they can channel, so that can't be their method.

The most obvious method is to just slap an adam on everybody.  Anybody that can walk a step, you're free to go.  But they obviously don't do that or the suldam would've been found out immediately.

I can't think of any test that wouldn't catch both groups at once.

They test everyone yearly (for the ages that a woman would have naturally started to channel). The only people affected by the collar are those that have already channeled (hence sparkers, learners won't channel naturally so will always pass the collar test). If they can walk with the collar they test the bracelet to see if theres an affinity (or i guess if the damane can move lol). As they spend time as Sul'dam this effectively comes from the forced bond which is why the collar holds experienced suldam.

Not just Salidar. They marched all the way to Murandy, recruiting on the way.

Which is through village territory in Altara, there's still no major population center and this is a small country. I also dont get any impression that the Aes Sedai were actively recruiting, ie testing everyone they met because most disagreed with the idea. It was more likely a 'proclaim in a village that they're looking for novices/recruits and age doesn't matter anymore' but they're still relying on volunteers

Again, if we followed the Aiel ratio, there should have been upward of 50,000 channelers in Randland. Compared to that, even 450 new novices would be a drop in the bucket.

Agreed it's still low, but, the 450 are limited to women who want and can learn, are able to leave home (few direct responsibilities and able to afford it), are able to travel to the camp, are willing to join the rebel group, etc etc etc

The Aes Sedai at the camp were against the new novices, they won't have been hard recruiting, it's still passive. Maybe the final numbers won't be as high as the Aiel, but they indicate that the traditional methods of recruitment are poor

  11. Numbers from the rebels camp suggest that traditional Aes Sedai recruiting methods were pretty dire, 450 novices were recruited just by opening the doors (so to speak) and that was still mostly people asking to be tested, not active recruitment

  12. Assuming taim as an individual separate from demandred he displayed characteristics of the forsaken, ie self (importance) above others etc, he didn't like serving and wanted to be more important

That said training ashaman is arguably the most important thing at that time and a huge amount of trust so difficult to see what else he could have wanted
