  1. Anaiya was not killed by Halima for no reason. She was killed, because she figured out from the other crimes, that Halima could channel saidin. The other two were killed for the same and another reason that was not realised.... Anaiya and the other two Aes Sedai Halima killed witnessed her attempt to kill Mat when he first arrived at Salidar, but Anaiya only realised what she saw when Egwene told her of the saidin killings. She realised Halima was Forsaken.
  2. The Forsaken by default are leaders of the Shadow. Moiraine and the Aes Sedai are well aware of that fact. Whether they are back or not is the major thrust of Aes Sedai politics, which Elaida will show, since she represents the majority view of the Aes Sedai that the Forsaken will never get out again. Because the key to that denial, is that they do not have the strength and knowledge to fight them. To show the counterpoint to that, is that of the Aes Sedai on the side of the Light, only Moiraine, Siuan and Alanna know that one Forsaken for sure is out, and only Moiraine is aware two of them are. The bigger issue, is that no Aes Sedai except the Black Ajah know that ALL OF THEM are now free.
  3. Far Madding is a display of a corrupted version of modern feminism because of the history of that city's people going back to the Age Of Legends, where they mistrusted the One Power and men's use of it even then to almost Whitecloak levels. As for Samoan and Tongan culture, it is an example of ancient feminism going back thousands of years. The only culture that has anywhere near the same in the Northern hemisphere is the Minoans.
  4. Going by what we have seen, the show has the same Oaths as the books. Moiraine acting in sinking the ship is doable, because she knows she is fighting the Shadow. She knows both Ishamael and Lanfear are in Falme, so she can go all out to do whatever she needs to do, because their presence negates the sense of danger needed at other times. Since the Oath against force states the exceptions very clearly, then the show has it as well. We just have not seen it yet. We know that show Moiraine knows far more about the Forsaken than book Moiraine did at this point. Book Moiraine would have done the same as in the show.
  5. They were not affected by the Longing at all because they did not need the stedding. RJ was very clear that the Breaking meant all stedding worldwide are in Randland, and no other part of the world. The panic a stedding caused the damane is proof of that comment. He stated it, because the books would not be going into that.
  6. There are some cultures that allow that. Samoan culture and Tongan culture are two of them. Both are reflected in Far Madding and the Wise Ones in their personalities and how they react to each other.
  7. It is a total block on Saidin as the books present it. Far Madding is the one place where modern feminism as we know it is a thing. Which is a justified stance considering saidin for most of the city's existence is a source of madness whenever it is accessed. It is not an anti One Power city. That would be Amador in Amadicia. It is an anti Saidin city, that also just so happens to mistrust Saidar as well. Which is why women can move around the city with monitoring, but men are totally restricted. If it was that way, Nyneave would not be able to tap her well to fool the Council into thinking it was Damer doing the channeling. It might fail with a Saidin well, we just do not have any indication on that, because no male channeler survived the Age Of Legends to pass on their knowledge, until Asmodean did with Rand, 3000 years later. All we know, is that Cadsuaine knew of the flaw in the Guardians, and exploited it to save the Dragon Reborn from captivity under Elaida.
  8. The loophole applies to saidar, remember? Far Madding's Guardian completely blocked saidin in any fashion. Wells of saidin would not work like the saidar ones did. The True Power, however was unrestricted, because only a few people knew of it, and all of them were either using it, or had access to it in the Age Of Legends, and they all served the Dark One. Callandor is the exception to that, but only because it was unexplained how it could interact with the True Power that way, or how anyone could make it to do what it did without the Pattern. The only things a stedding could not block was anything done that the weaves started, like a storm, or an earthquake.
  9. That is correct about Callandor. I just remember the access key glowing, and his comment on the Guardian only blocking the One Power.
  10. When Rand threatened to call lightning down on Far Madding, he stated the Guardians blocked the One Power only. That comment means, he was about to draw on the True Power to do that attack, and use the Choedan Kal with it. The Guardians would not detect its use, or stop it. A stedding by comparison, would stop that True Power attack as well, since they affect Shadowspawn, and they were made by both the One Power and True Power. I also think that a stedding would neutralise a tied off weave, and as a result, I disagree with Brandon when he said a well would work in a stedding. I suspect any weaves used inside by tapping a well would not work, it would just either drain the well on the spot, or not work at all.
  11. Well, RJ did say that Seanchan had no Stedding. They were unique to Randland.
  12. Only a woman can start a circle. A man cannot. The only other difference regarding circles that was not mentioned, was that a woman can be pulled into a large circle against her will, while a man cannot, even by a circle of 72 attempting it. This, like all the other nuances, is entirely to do with the nature of saidar and saidin.
  13. Yes. The stedding are unique to Randland, because there is no hint of how damane are affected, until they got to the mainland. When a damane entered a stedding, which was abandoned, both the suldam and damane freaked out. I also think the Book Of Translation is unique to Randland as well. Which explains when we hear from Loial's mother when she speaks to Loial that there are Ogier from Seanchan negotiating with The Great Stump, and she is very clear about how all the Stedding leaders present are basically outraged with the Seanchan Ogier and their interactions with humans.
  14. Nah. The woman playing Sheriam IS a red head, whose hair turned grey!!! Hehehe!!!
  15. The three Ta veren were there to do what they had to. Rand is the big one. If he died, they failed. The other two could not do what he had to do in that struggle, because Mat and Perrin could not channel. It is an ability tied to the soul, with a biological genetic component, and Rand is the only one of the three that had both. Padan Fain was not ta veren himself. He is like Slayer, where he is an interpretation of that ability, but even with Fain, the Pattern directed him in certain situations, like when Rand got stabbed by him. The exact same way Slayer was used by the Pattern. If he had not got stabbed, his two major feats: cleansing saidin, and reforming the prison, would not have happened, and he would not have learned what he needed later to figure it out.
  16. I still disagree on him deserving sympathy. The reason, is the two intellectual and academic disciplines he came from. Just one or the other would garner sympathy from me. The presence of both of them means for me, he gets no sympathy, and only slightly above even Semirhage or Graendal do, since both of those Forsaken have disciplines that are far more impactful and important. A parody is the best compromise for me to do so, even though I think he was an awesome villain. Juxtapose with Semirhage and Graendal both of whom I thoroughly enjoy their arcs, and their fates in the story. For me, the most sympathetic Forsaken has to be Demandred. I totally get that character, and understand how his life lead him to where he ended up. I agree, that this is fun and games. Gives my mind a good workout.
  17. This is interesting. However, for me, it is dangerous to pity Ishamael in this light with Morgoth, and seek to understand him. With what I know of Morgoth, Ishamael must be rejected, or Morgoth wins his battle, and Rand must kill them both. Morgoth being equated with the Dark One does not work for me, for the very reason that the Creator would be above him, not an equal force, which Morgoth never was, and make Rand un needed. He was Eru's greatest servant, and would make Ishamael a reflection of Morgoth's entire history. I still like my theory of the Dark One being entirely separate and outside from Eru and his creation, and even more so with Morgoth long gone is more fitting to what happens, and the fact that Ishamael in many ways, helped reseal the Dark One. Morgoth would kill Ishamael the instant that became a possibility, and before Rand ever got near him. The Dark One would have no need to do this, since he has another turning to try again.
  18. The thing is, in a world with Vader throwing down, Rand doing a fight with Turak would be not well recieved. I personally think Rand's first full on sword fight and One Power mixed should be against Sammael. Whom should be in Tear and Illian. It would so be him to pit two rival nations he ruled against each other to prove which soldiers would be better.
  19. It is information that Egwene gave Nynaeve from her training with the four Wise Ones. Training that collectively would mean that Moghedien's skills get a stronger contender, since much of their training was in defeating the things Moghedien does. It is just that with her knowledge of both the adam and forkroot on top of that training, Nynaeve would be able to stop her.
  20. Only while foreigners own most of them. National would have us in black outs from such policies as cutting funds, laying off the competent staff, and keeping the bad cheap ones, then moaning that the power locks them out of their bank accounts if we owned them all. I grew up under that as a kid, and yeah, not what I look forward to.
  21. Well, my logic is, if the Dark One can poison saidin for 3000 years, then there is nothing that stops him setting up a similar weave that targets birth. We have to assume that the Creator protects birthing, possibly by creating a weave that does that, by touching The Source itself to do it at the Moment of Creation, not the One Power.
  22. Sour is not the same taste as bitter is. Coffee tastes bitter. I should know. So did beer when I tasted it. Onions do not have the same reaction in my taste buds that coffee did, and that is the closest thing I can name that is sour. Apart from pears, and oranges. Sour is what everyone says is tangy. Bitter tasting things can only be consumed in small amounts, or people get sick.
  23. The one out clause that Moiraine has if the Oaths are the same, is that since she knows Ishamael and Lanfear are both there, then she can assume those people on the ships are darkfriends. We know thanks to Suroth being there, that a darkfriend is now in direct command since Turak died. Which means the Shadow held the city at that specific moment. She is correct in her decision, but Lan was equally correct in his point as well. Because we will never know if anyone on that ship knew Suroth served the Shadow, and was plotting to remove her, and could have done it then and there, since the battle could have given that person a chance.
  24. I have come to realise, that getting both brilliant characters and terrific worldbuilding is close to rare for films. For t.v, it is even rarer, especially in this genre. For what I have seen of this, I am really happy, want more, and am enjoying the journey. I know there is far more to see and explore that this show will do. I am also excited to see what the other Forsaken are going to do. To see Lanfear afraid at the end is pretty much on point when it comes to the Forsaken. The heroes were amazing, and done respectfully; they all felt like from our world, which was awesome to see.
