  1. Hi guys,

This is really bad. I've removed my review thread from the forums. My review was NOT complete when it got posted there. What you saw was an extremely early draft. Our new forum software has a bug in it and I did not realize it posted an incomplete copy to the forums. It's very embarrassing, especially given the rambling notes I left for myself.

Please disregard anything I said there. It's not a fair representation of the book, and (as you could see) was just a bunch of my own rambling written down.

My final review is complete now, but awaiting approval on spoilers I included. It contains a lot of juicy stuff and makes a lot more sense.

    It will be posted soon

  5. We've been given all the information for the Towers of Midnight book tour. As with The Gathering Storm tour, the events will kick off with a midnight release party in Provo, UT. Then the tour begins on the West Coast in Sacramento, CA (Dragonmount.com's home town!) and will conclude in New York City on November 8th.

The tour this time will be shorter than last year's due in part to the fact that Brandon just had another recent tour (completed this week) for The Way of Kings, his latest solo novel. But there's a special surprise: Harriet will be attending every one of the book tour events!

Also, just like last year, each site will have a a select group of volunteer fans who will help run the show and document the event. These "Tower Guards" will get a chance to meet with Brandon and Harriet in private before the signing event. Applications to be a Tower Guard will go online on our website in the near future.

  6. As many of you noticed, when we switched over to the new Dragonmount website, the links to the 4th Age podcast disappeared. Don't worry though. The podcast is not gone. It will be back very soon.

As a matter of fact, Virginia and her podcast team have some exciting things ahead for you. Tomorrow, for instance, they'll be recording a show with Maria and Alan from Team Jordan. Once that show is edited and uploaded, you can find links to it right here or via iTunes.

Sorry for the temporary inconvenience. Thanks for listening.

  7. "The only thing better than a double-cross is a triple-cross"

Ladies and gentlemen, we have successfully out-foxed the master Aelfinn (Brandon) and received the answers to 20 questions!

Here's what happened. Around 4 PM U.S. Pacific Time yesterday, Brandon challenged Dragonmount and Theoryland to compete against each other to find the last hidden clue in his GREAT HUNT. He encouraged us to fight over the bragging right. But we had other plans. He said each site could submit (5) Yes/No questions.

Brandon was giving clues to where the codes were --really obscure clues-- and his assistant Peter would tease the Hunters every once in a while. They thought they were out-FOXING us. But like a certain gambler... it was time to toss the dice and take the fight to the 'Finns.

The first thing we (Jason, Jennifer, Tamyrlin and Frenzy from Theoryland.com) did was get on a conference call. We came up with a plan to trick not each other but BRANDON into giving us even MORE clues.

In public --on our websites and on Twitter-- we declared that we were peacefully working together. It seemed like Brandon was disappointed because he wanted us to FIGHT! But our motives are pure. We want to find this code as fast as possible. We're not totally sure, but it looks like the reward could be a whole chapter's worth of Towers of Midnight content!

So once we collected our 10 questions (5 from Dragonmount and 5 from Theoryland) the Dragonmount team sent Brandon an email, claiming that we had "stolen" their questions.

It worked! Brandon replied with the answer to all 10 questions.

Shortly after that, the Theoryland team followed up with their own email, asking for 5 more of their own questions. And THAT worked too! Not only did Brandon answer those five, but being a fair sport, he then offered to answer 5 MORE for Theoryland, matching the total Dragonmount had.

When all this settled, we now had a total of 20 questions (!!) when we originally expected to only have 5, or 10 at the most!

So here you go people. Dragonmount and Theoryland have been working together to trick the master Trickster himself. Our goal from the start has been to give the entire WoT community a better chance of seeing the hidden prize as quickly as possible. Let this be a point made for all: WoT fans are never divided. We are united in our causes. We uphold the positive ideals set forth by the books. Tai Shar Dragonmount. Tai Shar Theoryland.

Here are all 20 questions and answers. Read them over. And let's get some feet in the ground in these places so we can unlock that hidden prize!

  9. It's been a long time in the making, but the new Dragonmount.com website is finally here. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this site possible.

You'll find that all your previous Dragonmount username and passwords still work, and that we've preserved all the posts from our old forums.

Please take a look around and enjoy the new layout. But keep in mind that this is an all new site and we're still working out some of the bugs and other oddities.

In the near future, we'll have links to our old forums in case you want to grab some of your recent posts and transfer them over to the new site.

  10. Tor Books is proud to present the book trailer for TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT, the penultimate thirteenth novel in The Wheel of Time series, written by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson.

Produced by the creative forces of Dragonmount and Mythmakers Entertainment, this video is the first-ever official video representation of Robert Jordan's masterpiece series. The majority of the crew for this project were fans themselves, and were led by Dragonmount founder Jason Denzel, who directed the short.

WARNING: The book trailer contains SPOILERS! However, if you are very familiar with the story and have seen the U.S. Book cover, then these spoilers are not that bad.

We will have an exclusive feature on Dragonmount next week with extensive behind-the-scenes features related to the making-of the video. In addition, the Outta-this-world video blog will have video interviews with myself and the cast and crew.

So enjoy the trailer (produced with YOU--the fans-- in mind), and check back next week for all the behind-the-scenes features.

While Rand is being heroic by saving Min’s life, a fan of the series will come to the image knowing the full story is more multifaceted than that. It is a testament to Jordan’s writing that very little is simple or one-sided. While Rand is saving Min, it is an act that helps ground him, too; Rand being the Dragon isolates to the point that it’s hard to interact with people the way that he used to. Protecting them from danger at once expresses his power and reinforces his connection to close friends and loved ones. This scene is emblematic of the tightrope that Rand must walk to get to Tarmon Gai’don.

The book is on schedule for a November 2, 2010 release. At this point Tor needs to take the digital manuscript-- basically just a Microsoft Word File-- and turn it into a novel. It needs to be copyedited, laid out with the right fonts and margins, artwork needs to be added, review copies generated, and printed. (It can take a long time to print that many books and bind them!)

Brandon is scheduled to go on a book tour for Towers of Midnight in November. Once the schedule is posted, well share it with you here on Dragonmount. Some of you have been asking if we'll be doing the Storm Leaders for this this year's tour. The answer is yes, but we don't have details yet. Applications will probably go online within a few weeks, after DragonCon (Sept 3-6).

In the meantime, be aware that Brandon will be on tour for his other upcoming novel, The Way of Kings. The complete tour schedule for that can be found on this page at Tor.com.

  14. Tor Books has announced via Tor.com that the prologue to TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT, the thirteenth book in the Wheel of Time series, will be available for purchase on September 21, 2010.

The title of the prologue is "Distinctions". Here's the story description:

In the prologue, titled “Distinctions,” Lan Mandragoran rides on toward death; Perrin Aybara, Lord Goldeneyes, has a disturbing dream; Galad leads the Whitecloaks into harm’s way; one who has left humanity behind creeps through the Blight; and the Blight border faces invasion.

The prologue will be available in ebook format and available for all the major readers. The cost is $2.99 US.

Towers of Midnight will be released on November 2, 2010. Please continue to check back to our website for regular updated related to this novel. In the first week of September, Tor Books and Dragonmount will release a special video "book trailer". We will have full coverage of that as we get closer.

In addition to the ebook prologue, it is likely that Tor.com will release several other free chapters to Towers of Midnight. This is just speculation based on what they've done for past books.

  17. Tor.com and Brandon Sanderson have teamed up to launch a scavenger hunt they're calling "The Great Hunt." The basic idea is that Brandon will hide clues at various bookstores on his book tour for The Way of Kings, his latest non-Wheel of Time novel which is now available. Each one of these clues will be a small part in unlocking some exclusive "prize" related to Towers of Midnight.

Here's what Tor.com says about the contest:

To unlock it, fans will have to hunt down the many unique digital codes, printed on the back of Wheel of Time bumper stickers that Brandon will hide inside copies of The Way of Kings along each stop on his tour. (Which kicks off tonight!)

Each bumper sticker/code will unlock a piece of the secret and it will require the work of many fans in many cities to unlock the entire page. The Great Hunt begins!

So here's what you can do. If you live near one of the tour cities that Brandon will visit, stop by the bookstore he'll be at and look for one or more Wheel of Time bumper stickers located inside copies of The Way of Kings. If you find it, share it with us here in the comments, on our forums, on Twitter, or anywhere else. As a group we'll crack the code and figure out what the prize is.

Oh, and while you're in these bookstores ruffling through the pages of their inventory, consider being polite and purchasing a copy of Brandon's new book? Alternatively, you can purchase it here via Amazon links:

  18. I am talking about the start of the book and comparing it too the end of KOD. Maybe its just me but I certainly didn`t think of him as mad after reading KOD, but after reading two-three chapters of TGS I realized that he really was. And this before his encounter with Semi.

That's a fair point. Although I've been thinking that Rand's mental state is 75% or more related to stress and depression rather than taint-induced madness. What do you think?dsd
