  1. @ Ituralde's Bannerman Because for many people, the experience of WoT is more than just the words on page. There's a thriving, active community in which stuff is happening every day. We respect that not every episode will appeal to every visitor, but we're also open to ideas on topics you want to hear about.
  2. Dragonmount is proud to announce the launch of the Wheel of Time video news! We'd love to hear back from you about this video. What did you think? What sort of news would you like to see us cover?
  3. Dragonmount is excited to partner with Macmillan Audio to celebrate the release of Winter's Heart on audiobook. Now if that sounds strange to you, there's a good reason. After years of being out of print, the physical CD edition of Winter's Heart --Book 9 of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series--can now be found wherever books are sold. Macmillan Audio is honored to complete the WoT series on audio with this re-release of fan favorite, read by series' narrators Michael Kramer and Kate Reading. To help celebrate this, check out our very first Wheel of Time video news segment, hosted by Kristen Nedopak: To celebrate all this new stuff, we're partnering with Macmillan Audio to give away some fun prizes. Our grand prize is a copy of Winter's Heart on audio CD, along with a copy of Towers of Midnight on audio CD and signed by Brandon Sanderson, Harriet McDougal and Michael Kramer. Secondary winners will receive copies of Winter's Heart on audio CD. To enter, reply to this post with your favorite scene from Winter's Heart. The contest ends at 11:59 PM (U.S. Pacific time) on Tuesday, March 15th. This contest is open only to residents of the United States and Canada. (Sorry, folks.) One entry per person, please. We'll draw the winders from a random selection. Be sure to visit Macmillan's Facebook page, where they have a dedicated Wheel of Time section. (Comments are now closed! Thanks to all who entered.)

  7. TarValon.net is hosting The Feast of Lights, a charity drive benefitting breast cancer research. Here's what they told us about it: This year's Feast of Lights drive, hosted by TarValon.Net, Inc., is being held for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, in memory of Tricia Erickson (Padra Sedai), who passed away this summer. The drive is open to all Wheel of Time fans, and every donor will be entered into a raffle to win some amazing Wheel of Time prizes, including a leather-bound copy of Towers of Midnight signed by Harriet McDougal and Brandon Sanderson. This drive is being run from December 5 - January 5. Information on the drive, including a full list of prizes and how to donate, is available here. Please consider donating for this worthy cause, and help us demonstrate how the Wheel of Time community can make a positive difference in the world.
  8. Seamas Gallagher, a well--known Wheel of Time artist whose work can be seen on our main banner above-- has been given an official license to produce and sell high-quality WoT art prints. The first batch is now available. View more os Seamas's art at www.seamasgallagher.com
  9. Wow. I'm ashamed that I simply missed her on the list. She's going to yell at me, huh? I've added her to the list. Don't worry ... I still love you.
  10. Hi everyone! Brandon asked me to collect names of people we wanted to die in the final novel. Haha, just kidding. I'm just curious which of the major "good" (ie, non-darkfriend) characters you think will die -- and not come back-- in the final WoT novel. Vote and discuss! Jason
  11. Tor Books will be releasing the full and complete New Spring graphic novel on January 18, 2011. New Spring is the only published prequel to The Wheel of Time. Written by Robert Jordan, it was originally published as "short" story in 1998 as part of the Legends" rel="external nofollow">http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0765300354?ie=UTF8&tag=dragonmount&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=0765300354">Legends Anthology, edited by Robert Silverberg. The original short story focused on Moiraine and how she met and bonded Lan. Robert Jordan later expanded the story into a full novel (published in 2004). Shortly after that, in 2005, Robert Jordan began working with well-known comic book writer Chuck Dixon to adapt the novel into a series of comic books (produced at the time by Red Eagle Entertainment and Dabel Brother productions). This graphic novel is the culmination those efforts to finally publish the entire collection into a single book. Here's what Tor's press release says about it: n the last few years before his death, Robert Jordan worked closely with Chuck Dixon and Mike Miller on the graphic adaptation of New Spring. The eight full-color issues of New Spring, released between 2005 and 2010, tell the story of the search for the infant Dragon Reborn and of the adventures of Moiraine Damodred, a young Aes Sedai, and Lan Mandragoran, the uncrowned king of a long-dead nation. Adapted by noted comics writer Chuck Dixon with the full cooperation of Robert Jordan, and illustrated by artists Mike Miller and Harvey Tolibao, New Spring will delight any of Robert Jordan's millions of readers. Tor is proud to collect all eight issues of New Spring in a single volume, which will also include developmental art, script pages, and correspondence between Jordan and Dixon. You can pre-order the book now from Amazon.com or find it at your local bookstore. In somewhat related news, Tor Books also announced today that they will be publishing two new novels by Brandon Sanderson next year. These novels, which include a new Mistborn short novel and a young adult title, will be released in 2011. More information will be released about these on Brandon" s rel="external nofollow">http://www.brandonsanderson.com">Brandon's website. Their release will not impact the publication of the final WoT novel. Book 14, A Memory of Light is estimated to be published in early 2012.

These updates will now be mirrored onto Facebook, allowing you to follow us in either location. (And for those of you who've been paying attention: yes, we've actually been on Facebook for a while now, but the "group" we setup wasn't equipped to mirror our twitter commentary.) We're looking forward to expanding our community to you on Facebook. See you there!

Join Brandon and the rest of us by following the #portalstone hashtag…but be forewarned if you haven’t read, spoilers may be discussed! We'll also have another member of "Team Jordan" on-hand: the cagey Maria Simons(@MariaLSimons), Robert Jordan's literary assistant for 12 years, whose famed poker face could face a sore testing in the twitterverse. Special guests @Theoryland (Matt Hatch of Theoryland.com), @zemaille (Linda Taglieri of the 13th Depository WoT blog), @portalstones (Steve Godecke of Portalstones.com), and maybe even @dragonmount, if someone can drag Jason and Jennifer from their day jobs. So brush up those theories and watch out for RAFO cards, I hear Brandon’s getting quite the throwing arm… If you’re new to Twitter and would like join us, Twitter 101 does a nice job explaining the basics. After you sign-up, search or click the #portalstone hashtag to follow along. To direct a question or comment, mention the specific user(s) by username, preceded by the @sign. If you have any questions or problems, your friends here at Tor (@torbooks) and Tor.com (@tordotcom) will be on hand to help. And possibly, maybe just maybe…give some cool stuff away. Hope you can join us! Best, Justin (@jgolenbo)
  18. I've experienced a lot of cool things when it comes to the Wheel of Time. But last night at the Sacramento book signing, something happened that was pretty surreal for me, which I guess is saying something. As the signing itself began, Harriet "insisted" that I sit at the table with her and Brandon and sign the dedication page for Towers of Midnight. Let me let that sink in: Harriet asked me to sign copies of Towers of Midnight with her. So for the next 4 and a half hours I sat there and signed 350-400 copies of ToM. It was such an honor to be asked to do that. Part of me still isn't completely comfortable signing RJ's books, but both Harriet and Brandon assured me that it was the right choice, and so I am deeply grateful. There were some other nice perks too. Meeting 400+ fans was awesome, of course. Some of them had gifts for Brandon, and (shockingly) some had gifts for me. Take a look: In 1996, a book called Barlowe's Guide to Fantasy was published. Amongst other neat things, it had an encyclopedia-like entry for Trollocs. I only saw the book once in stores, but couldn't afford it at the time due to my limited college funds. In the years since, I've regretted not stretching my money a little because I wasn't able to ever find that book again, or even remember the title. Well last night, Bailey (a Tower Guard) brought her copy and showed it to me. When I explained how excited I was to actually see the book, she handed it to me and said I could keep it. I've since learned that the book is out of print, but used copies can be found. Here's a picture of the cover. Notice the trolloc in the upper right corner. Here's the link to Amazon, where you can generally find some inexpensive used copies if you're curious. I also received a few packs of MAGIC cards, although not as many as Brandon did. The coolest ones I received were the custom cards that fan Mike P made for both Brandon and I. Take a look: My favorite gift received last night though came from another Tower Guard, Joe. He told me that he lived in Japan for a while and thought I might like this shirt. It's simply amazing, and I'm flattered that he offered it to me: Detail on the dragon embroidery: I am so privileged to be a part of a community like this, and profoundly humbled that so many of you enjoy the things we do here at Dragonmount. I know the gifts above are just tokens of a larger appreciation, and that only makes me want to work harder to continue delivering quality content on our site. Oh one more thing. I totally ran off this this poster after the event. Source: My surreal WoT experience
