Why would they expand the role of minor characters when there are already more characters than any normal TV show can handle?

Got season 8 sucked because Martin hasn't finished the series yet, so the producers were making stuff up.

Manetheren fell two thousand years ago. For reference, that's like when Jesus was born. The Two Rivers has been isolated for two thousand years.

The worst thing is, Mat looks like he could be Rand's brother. Rand's distinctive look is supposed to be an important plot point.
