  1. People are overthinking this. Verin wanted Mat to wait to open the letter after 10 days or remain for 50, then 30. Either way verin covered her bases. If Matt opened the letter, he would have the Waygate destroyed or guarded. If he didn't open it and waited 30 days he and his Band would be there to assist in the city's defenses. Either way, Verin NEEDED Matt/the Band to be in Caemlyn, and through her Aes Sedai trickery she exchanged Matt the time he needed in the city with moving probably the finest army we've yet seen fielded in Randland outside of the Seanchan and the Aiel. Even should Matt himself not be there, Talmanas and Deirid (sp?) grew the band by several banners and not only ensured they had gold to spare, but obtained the crossbow cranks. Verin was shedding her cloak of the Dark One and returning to the light, though she never really strayed too far from it as a Darkfriend. We also see too but I haven't seen it mentioned too much that the pattern forced Verin to find Matt/Matt's Taveren pull ensnared her because he needed a gateway and she needed to move on with her plotting and righting things for the Light. They needed each other. It would make complete sense for her to be just "covering her bases"...if that didn't just make this whole plan over complicated, if she realllly wanted to make sure he did something to help she could have told him (or fearing being captured as a darkfriend,) could have told him she had something important for him to read right away upon her leaving....
  2. ...I really feel this plan feels rather "vague" and if you recall she was always mistakenly referred to as "vague"...she wore her vagueness as a mask, and I still get the sense that her letters had a bigger purpose to serve...
  3. Just to clarify what my point was to this... I believe that Verin may have (in some way I do not know) known how the pattern was going to play out IF Mat was around for the Caemlyn invasion, and perhaps knew that this letter would alter the outcome in some way...I just thought that her "intending" for Mat to open the letter didn't make sense, she's been to clever to have left something important with him with the idea that if he opened it he would be obliged to basically do as an Aes Sedai said/be trapped into something...Mat Cauthon does not like to be forced into anything.. ..the only other reason I could think of on the opposite side of this was she felt that the letter was a "chance" and Mat Cauthon's luck could help the right course of action to take place (whatever that might ultimately entail) OR maybe she just thought curiosity would get the better of him and he WOULD open it in her assumption...
  4. Just a thought-not sure if anyone else has had it.... I was just thinking that it did not make sense for Verin to leave the fate of Caemlyn up to Mat in a gamble of her own...she could easily have given warning to anyone or multiple people.... So did she then have some sort of information regarding a possible "twist of fate/the pattern" that would have ended badly with Mat being at FoM when the battle began? Perhaps this letter was to trick Mat into going to rescue Moiraine at the appropriate time, or maybe just to keep him away to avoid a tragic future in some area for either him or the pattern?...It just doesnt't seem like the reason was that "simple" as Verin was never a simple or straightforward character.
  5. 1) The ultimate fate of the Aiel 2) Elayne's and Aviendha's babies 3) The whereabouts of Gaidal Cain 4) The definite source of Mat's earliest "Old Tongue" episodes/old blood relation (it will remain theoretical) 5) The fate of the white tower (including it's relation to wise ones, windfinders and the kin) 6) The song and the Tinkers (unless this is the method they use after the last battle to eradicate the blight) 7) Does Ilyena exist in the present age? 8) Tam Al'Thor's full back story (Illian, etc) 9) Anything else about the green man 10) Maybe none of the above, or a million other things that will make my brain itch....
  6. Maybe Egwene and Alivia DO work together on this...remember Egwene's dream involving a Seanchan woman and a cliff, etc....?
  7. Egwene...I think her testing for the accepted was a big forshadowing that she will have a part to play in that....I am also pretty sure Brandon Sanderson made a twitter comment about some forshadowing during that chapter on his reread...
  8. (Maybe if he doesn't overcome some personal problem of his, and stop struggling with himself, this other person will harm him or "stab him in the back.")
  9. I think maybe it is Mat fighting his inner demons or his personal hangups and the shadowy figure could represent someone close to him(maybe even a well known friend) he hasn't noticed who is actually a threat to him...
  10. (I don'tknow if this is actually a spoiler thread, but I DID intend to post this in the general discussions...)
  11. While doing my re-read, I can't help but think that Alanna having bonded Rand earlier in the books won't have more significance before the end. I was wondering if anyone has any theories about why the bonding ever happened, as it would seem unlikely RJ would just have thrown it in there for no major reason...perhaps the wheel wove this in the pattern for a higher purpose? AND if for a reason, is the reason in helping the light or the dark side?
  12. MY APOLOGIES - I posted this in the wrong thread...I am gonna re-post this in the spoiler section... SOOORRRYYY

  14. I don't get it. Why do they need the dragon for the prison to be opened completely? same question i have been asking on dragonmount forums for years. why did the dark one gave the order not to kill rand and this is the answer i get. I think it has possibly got something to do with him wanting to destroy the wheel of time, if the dragon turned to the shadow and became the DO's champion instead of the creator, then there would be no stopping him from doing what he wants, and the wheel would not "come again" to that point... ****I meant the DO's champion instead of the creator's champion
