  1. Just wanted to say I'd like to join.

I posted this in the DM Writer's Group where but it seems to fit better here. It's my first attempt using soft pastels. I usually draw in pencil but want to expand in to color... eventually I'd like to get into acrylics and oils.

  2. Just finished it this morning. All I can say is "Wow". Surprised at the body count of some mid-high level characters, notably Egwene and Bela. Why did they have to kill off Bela the Wonder Horse!?!?!? Good action and good pacing. Would have liked to see more of a fight put up by Padan Fain but meh, it's cool. ALso, would have liked an Epilogue a little more indepth  as to where some of the characters ended up a year or two afterwards.

Other than that, a good book and fitting ending.

  3. That said, I will say that I liked the central characters (King has always done memorable characters) and the premise of the story. The plot execution though just fell apart the further along he went. One moment you have vampires, then you got spider-babies, then you got robots, then you got modern urban fantasy..... it just got to be a mish-mash of stories.

  4. Yeah, that's pretty much my take on it. Although I did like Wolves of the Calla pretty well. If the series ended there with an Epilogue showing the Tower scene, it may have not have hurt so much cuz pretty much everything after that was crud.

I had the same reaction to Red Skies Over Red Seas (Locke Lamora Book 2).

P.S. - Another edit King did in Book One was originally, he had Roland chasing the Man in Black in a South direction. He changed it to match the SE direction of the beam later on.

  5. Found a new low! Watched this on Comcast this weekend and it was truelly funny in an unintentional campy sort of way.

" Fertilize the Blaspheming Bombshell "

Its about twin sisters. One twin gets sacrificed by a group of satanists. The twin feels it from across the country and goes to explore her suster's murder. She finds the satanist group and they try to capture her and empregnate her with the "seed of satan".

    A couple movie quotes:

"Do you know what that is? It's a pentagram, the satanic sign of evil."

"The number 666.... Do you know what that is? It's the satanic sign of evil."

And all through the movie, the soundtrack sounds like Wink Martindale game show music.

My wife and I jsut started doing a MST3K on it and turned it into a pretty funny comedy.

I actually found the full length movie legally posted on YouTube by the makers of it:

    Watch if you dare.

  6. Anyone else think it was funny when....

They say that Spook's butchering way to speak that was so derided in Mistborn, was now considered the "High Speech" used oly at official state functions and the important people?

  7. Summary of Book 3: The Hero of the Ages

Ash falls, Spook comes into his own, people fight overgrown smurfs, some people die, others rise the next level, the world ends

    in a nutshell

  8. Dolphin Tail - Pretty good for a "feel good" movie (if you overlook the usual weak plot points of angst and change without reason). The little girl was adorable but the rest of the actors were forgettable, unfortuantely that includes usually spot on Morgan Freeman. Nice family movie if you have a young tween girl/boy.

  9. I believe RJ was asked about male/female relations before he passed and his explaination was to the effect that in Randland, men are sterotyped as "those who broke the world". Yeah, we the readers, know it was just male channelers thousands of years ago who did, but in the book world, one of the themes is how history becomes legend which becomes myth. So the crimes of the crazy male Aes Sedai were extended to cover all men in the world by association. Add to the fact that any man could spark and being to channel at any time, who then was destined to go mad and kill their family or hometown. In a world where the percetnage of the population who spark is at 1% - 3%, a city of 10,000 people would have the potential of 100 - 300 men spark in a generation. That would be enough men going crazy to keep a negative bias going. Then added to that fact, women were credited with saving the world and holding Civilization together during and after the Breaking,.....

Is it any wonder why gender relations are what they are in Randland?

  10. I do not like the Perrin/Faile/Shaido plotline of doom.

    [spoilerS FOR TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT]

There is a larger purpose to the sidestory of Perrin/Faile/Shaido/Seanchan. In TOM, Avi travels to the Waste and goes through the glass colums to become a Wise One. While there she sees the future of the Aiel. In that future, the children of Rand and Avi set out to start a war with the Seanchan because.... they have captured hundreds of Aiel (Shaido) Wise One channelers and collared them. The results of Perrin's battle with the Shaido and his deal with the Seanchan is the spark for the destruction of the Aiel as a People.

I'd hardly say that the plotline was pointless.

  11. As you might have guessed, I was going the MC route eventually leading to a wild and crazy death scene. What do you think?

I think interaction with a Red Ajah (stock story I know) could be good, or a character much like Opera's. There are a lot of options and I am flexible.

  12. I always thought that the list started when he said that the Maiden's carried his honor, and then they wanted to fight for him. So after the first aiel fighting action, where Maiden's died fighting for him, was when the list started.

Maybe when they were coming out of the Waste and they had that battle with the trollocs...
