  1. My review aligns with Barid Bel Medar's THE POSITIVES: Logain's arc (absolutely loved his ending) Rand's arc The ending (apart from not giving any hints at what comes after, or a few views into the future) Fain playing a minor part THE LETDOWNS A lot of missed plots left unresolved or unsatisfyingly; DEMANDRED (so disappointed) Verin's letters, Tuon and Hawking having a chat. Unresolved prophecies. Only hints of "the song" ? (Loial singing outside Cairhien) Put bluntly, this book had so much more potential, and with about 50 pages left, i felt it was massively disappointing. However, it ended as an "ok" end to a series, nothing more to me. It felt rushed. I am one of those who would have liked a peek into what the 4th age held, union of channelers, rise of Malkier and so on.
  2. To me, Logain's arc was the best part of the book. I absolutely loved the ending, and I must admit I shed a tear when that woman told him her son had "the talent" and his reaction to it.
  3. That's what I thought also, but given the answers above, I guess I was wrong and only Saldean cavalry went there. Very unlikely -- for several reasons. The clincher is Bashere's tactical musing when he decides that Maradon must be abandoned. He decides the cavalry will pretend to get set to charge the trollocs, thereby inducing the Shadow army to dig into defences and meanwhile the foot will pull back thru Gates and then the cavalry will turn around and gallop in the opposite direction. So he had foot soldiers - that's the Dragon legion. (Apart from that, he only had 12K cavalry from TFoH onwards - Ituralde and the Saldaean defenders had far, far more and still got overwhelmed by numbers. Bashere swept the city clean in a few hours. Second, you don't get into an urban dogfight with pure cavalry. Third, one of his junior commanders was contemplating assaulting the positions on the hill - again impossible to do with only cavalry.) isnt it alot to assume that Bashere uses the Dragon Legion when every specific/special army is mentioned upon use throughout the entire series? i do believe Bashere had more than just cavalry under his disposal from his saldaean forces. i just dont buy it sorry :P i do believe they are up to something special, either being against rand or doing something awesome (that gets mentioned, and not implied) I do believe that a reread of the relevant sections of TFoH, LoC, ACoS, TPoD will disabuse you of the notion that Bashere had any more than 9K (not even 12K) of Saldaean cavalry. The rest of his troops consisted of the Dragon Legion. Edit: He offered the services of his 9K troops to Rand. ok, ill admit i might have been wrong about that. but my point remains that whenever the dragon legion has been used earlier it has been specifically mentioned. especially if they were part of liberating maradon they would probably have been described how their crossbows ate at every trolloc within the city, leaving no one alive etc.

  5. my thoughts exactly. the thing with me thinking they might be darkfriends though, is another thing i read somewhere else, again possibly theoryland; there could have been issued an order for all darkfriends to find the black tower to be tested for channeling ability, and those who were not eligible could infiltrate the legion. in my head at least, it makes sense
  6. you do, as a white ajah member would say, make excellent logic. but this whole anti-rand thing egwene is doing atm, could it be due to compulsion? nyneaves skill with delving could figure that out easily. i have read this somewhere posted, possibly theoryland, that egwene might be under compulsion to sever the connection between rand/white tower at the very least, i hope moiraine joins as the last blue sitter :D
  7. Are there anyone but me that might think the dragon legion will not be serving the light in the upcoming book? With them being filled with non-channelable men from the black tower i figure at least a good bunch of them are darkfriends. Too many darkfriends on top means this unit will not be "performing" well. I have totally forgotten where they are atm, i cant remember them being used after taking Illian (but im sure they were, possibly in knife of dreams which im almost at in my re-read) but where could they be atm? are they moving alot off-screen? we do not see them at the field of merrilor yet, could they be with King Darlin in Tear? Im getting abit suspicious...
  8. as far as i know, she didnt involve herself in tower politics because her task was to secure the dragon reborn. with the info she has now i think firstly she will meet rand, and while at the field, she will be presented with a seat of the blue ajah. i think this is the way she will influence the tower into siding with rand. egwene who has much respect for moiraine will really have problems
  9. Remember that Shaidar Haran is percieved as the dark ones Avatar in this world, we may see him weild some nasty powers in favor of the shadow. When Rand breaks the seals, shaidar haran may experience increased powers until it can be subdued. I picture shaidar harans powers now are what little the dark one can funnel through the cracks in his prison. During the time Rand destroys seals and faces the dark one, there will be nothing preventing him from powering shaidar haran even further. I have a feeling Mah'alleinir may have a part to play in the dismantling of Shaidar Haran.
  10. Wouldnt Moiraine be the perfect candidate for a blue sitter? She is young, but she has: 1. Killed a forsaken and is honored for it (be'lal) 2. Saved Rand from Lanfear, and nearly sacrificed herself for that 3. Gained some serious info from the aelfinns 4. She is the closest Aes Sedai to Rand, lets face it - shes the only one he truly trusted until she presumably died. Nyneave and Elayne have proven themselves, but im not sure he counts those as Aes Sedai, yet.
  11. This led me to think of something. Demandreds position that we've never established, we have hints - but thats all. From Sammael we have "the south had Demandred written all over it", we have the trolloc invasion of Caemlyn - and if you are right, all the major cities. What if Demandreds hidden area is in the ways? That means he could have led trollocs south - Remember those trollocs Tylee (seanchan commander) found outside ebou dar and took them to prove that trollocs were indeed not stories at all. If Demandred has been hiding within the ways, hes pretty much had access to every possible area in randland. Moreover, Machin shin was waiting for Rand at every entrance, so he could not enter - why not a safety precaution cooked up by Demandred? It is also quite possible that Fain gaining control over, or dispersing machin shin, he could have foiled this plan, but since none have tried to enter the ways in fear of Machin Shin waiting, hes been let off the hook, and could finish his plan to gather trollocs inside the ways to leap at every exit. thoughts?
  12. as far as i see it, he has the biggest obstacle left to face - his wife. seriously, i think it will be him who has to forcefeed Tuon logic with a teaspoon. Picture yourself a 2 year old baby who does not at all want to eat his porridge, thats what is ahead of Mat now
  13. Yo, a topic to my likin :D 1. I am looking forward to (hoping for) a merging of Aes Sedai and Asha'man to do something uber, be it the last battle or the cleansing of the black tower. After all, we've been indoctrinated throughout the story how awesome male and female channelers working together were, even though we've glimpsed it in for instance winters heart, i still feel the best is yet to come. I hope for a "grey tower" with Logain and Egwene as the heads and a council with equal parts male and female. Maybe even ajahs are open to both genders. 2. Ogiers coming to save the day 3. Androl saving the day 4. Logain to save the day, or just being his normal awesome self 5. The gathering of the 5 great commanders: Bashere, Ituralde, (Shienar commander, dont remember his name), Gareth Bryne and Mat - Tactics are going to be off the hook, with all 5 doing something awesome in the big battles to come. 6. Hopefully Neald (?) and Perrin coming to teach more ashaman how to forge power-wrought weapons to arm the forces of light and give them an edge 7. Lan surviving
  14. So after some months im back :D since ive heared about this "blank" in the blight ive always thought there is one thing that is the most logical to me. waygates or portal stones is a given, and wouldnt have been surprising at all. no, what i think is supposed to be in that blank is "hold". a hold in the blight - thats right. what is a hold? not a city, but an aiel refuge/town. we all know the blight is growing, it swallowed malkier, why not one of the northernmost aiel holds? in my head this theory only became stronger with those red-veiled aiel look-alikes
  15. Its so annoying that this girl suffers from how she percieves men from the Womens Circle in emonds field. top that off with an aes sedais need to be in control, an amyrlin at that, she is one mixture of pure annoyance. really, she does need someone to put her in place, likewise Tuon. You may think im sexist here, but im not. these two cant see logic if it hit them in the face, and im certain that is going to happen _very soon_
