  3. I just posted this in the "Typo/Errata" thread, but I need to post it here to: ARRRG! I downloaded the audiobook, since I usually wait until the paperback is out (to match the rest of my collection) so I don't see the typos on the page, but I just discovered a very frustrating glitch in the audio version of chapter 24: there is a chunk missing!!! The part where Perrin is talking to Hopper after chasing the wolves, it skips ahead to the very end of a fight with Slayer, and I can't even tell how much is missing!!! I will go to the appropriate spoiler thread for this part of the book to ask this question: WHAT HAPPENED OMG??!! I might need to run to the book store just to read those few pages, if I can find a copy.

  6. I always thought the ter'angreal that Avi said grew something was a "talisman of growing" that the Ogier used to "grow" Waygates.
  7. No, George Lucas had said at some point that the original story of Star Wars (the first movie made by itself) was loosely base on the plot of some old novel about rescuing a princess from a castle, some medieval setting, but as far as the whole Star Wars thing, that's all from Lucas. I remember reading a little while ago that he said he had imagined that the story would be told in 9 episodes, 3 trilogies, but currently no plan to make the last three sequels. The Star Wars books I was referring to are stuff other authors have expanded on in that fictional universe. Sorry, I'm a bit of geek for Star Wars, but I don't mean to sound condescending or anything like the comic book store guy in the Simpsons.
  8. You should Tweet Sanderson, I'm sure he could convince McMillian Audio to hire whoever does Animaniacs to read the last book.. This is One somber chapter out of what? Nearly a Thousand? Kate Reading and Michael Kramer have brought this story to life dozens if not hundreds of times. Listen to more than 20 short minutes. I agree. I've listened to all of them, and I think they do a great job, without getting too overly dramatic about it (it's not a stage production after all). There are a lot of emotional parts, this is just one somber chapter, portrayed from Perrin's somber POV, (should he be reading that character all cheerfully?) which I'll admit does get tiresome at times, but I've really enjoyed the audiobooks overall.
  9. Those frozen nipples are the only thing holding her dress up  that's freaking funny.
  10. One thing to consider with Perrin is the actual amount of time in the story line. For us as readers it has been years and years of us reading about his reluctance to accept his role. But to Perrin it has really only been a matter of months, not years, since he has been thrust into this position. Not a very long time to get accustomed to going from a blacksmith's apprentice to a general with people flocking to you for guidance. Maybe some of the maidens decided it was more efficient in the mud to ride instead of pridefully slogging thru the mud.
  11. Arrrg!! Too short! But thank you to Tor anyway for giving us teasers. Yeah I think ideally it would have been better to have left us hanging for a while on Galad, but there is probably just too much going on in this book. I look forward to seeing what Galad does with control of the Whitecloaks tho.
  12. Wow there are a lot of good suggestions in here that I haven't read. My wife was telling me about the George RR Martin series, and it sounded like a little too much political intrigue and drama for me, but soooooo many of you seem to like it maybe I'll have to give it a try. I can't believe only one person mentioned the Dune series. I know some people don't like how weird some of it got (I like it btw), but you've got to admit that whole universe and history is pretty damn epic. I also was surprised to enjoy the Harry Potter series. I held off until they were all out, and I listened to a really entertaining audiobook version read by Jim Dale rather than reading the books. I thought it was hilarious and better then some of the movies, but maybe reading it wouldn't be as fun since it was a little kiddy, especially to first couple. The Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson was pretty epic for a trilogy I thought. It's about the colonization of Mars, and the way the culture, technology, politics develop on a different planet, and the ever evolving relationship with Earth. Pretty neat if you are a space geek like me. Contact by Carl Sagan, for the same geek factor. Just neat to have a scifi novel written by an actual scientist. I was glad to see Xanth mentioned a few times. Not really my thing now, a little too zany and kiddy, but as a kid that series is what really got me into reading fantasy. Piers Anthony has a few other series that are pretty neat too: Apprentice Adept, Mode, Incarnations of Immortality. Some of the Star Wars ones are pretty good. I know it's not real high class literature or anything, but it can be entertaining for a scifi fan. In particular, there is a trilogy set shortly after the timeline of Return of the Jedi, by Timothy Zahn, that is really good. It reads like watching one of the movies, real high paced action adventure kinda thing, but with pretty interesting ideas. After those, most of it got carried away and lost my interest. I'm trying to think of more, but it seems like most of the really good stuff I've read has been mentioned already. So let me just say, please please please nobody write anymore vampire novels for another 20 years or so, at least. There are enough people on that bandwagon already, it should be breaking down soon.
  13. Where did you get your copies? Did you actually buy them, CD or digital download? or did you get a pirated copy from a torrent or something? cuz the latter might be why, lower quality files to accommodate smaller file size and easier download. I have the audiobooks in digital format, and I noticed a little bit of difference in how there voices sound in TGS, but not quality of sound, and I just attributed that to that fact that it has been quite a few years and their voices have changed, and recording equipment has changed too, especially if you go back and listen to the first ones after the last one. They sound noticeably younger.
  14. I could not agree more. As I read this, I knew it was spot on. Definitely will be this, to the point that I would probably put a tenner on it. Yeah, I've been expecting that paragraph for a long time. Hopefully a little more detailed version of the wind sequence tho, coming down from Shayol Ghul across the after math of a great battle maybe and on towards some glimmers of hope for the next age. I'm hoping for one more awesome 4th age historical quote at the end too. But I'm also wondering if RJ had planned a prologue after the climax of the LB, showing some of the surviving main characters in the aftermath. I like that idea. Ever since Loial started taking notes I've kinda viewed the series as Loial's historical archive, or RJ as Loial.
  15. Healing, to cure the healthcare debacle, and Traveling, to overthrow the oil economy. Those two things alone might bring on the Age of Legends.
  16. Rand should have at least tried to kill her during the trolloc attack in the Stone in TSR. He had her pinned to a wall with Air, and was in ass-kicking mode filled with the power, but hesitated because she is a women. Chivalry isn't always a good thing. I'm going thru a re-read now, and just started TSR. That part in the beginning when Berelain comes in to his room in a skimpy little shift trying to seduce him... he so should have gotten his freak on with her. omg, yes. Everytime I read that scene, I want to yell at him. If it was me, it would have been on like Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong with Lanfear or Berelain

  18. RJ had said at one point that he had never written down a complete version of the whole of the Prophecies, only what he needed for the story.
  19. I thought of another possible scenario to fulfill Moiraine's statement that only three may go. Noal dies before they enter the tower. Not sure how, but then they are left out in the middle of nowhere with only two, and then comes Olver who followed in secret as has been suggested, and he will be the third. As to "half the light of the world to save the world," I saw that as him saving Moiraine, which will save the world. Min said that Rand will fail without her, tho she only thinks it to herself in one of her POVs, and can't bring herself to tell. And one of her earliest viewings of Mat, I think in EotW, she sees an eye on a balance scale, which seems to me to mean some kind of bargain with the Finns, or a wager maybe since it's Mat.
  20. LMAO that's awesome. Galad: Hey, girls. Egwene: I hope my skirts are smooth. Nynaeve: Me too. Smooth skirts are a must in today's world. Gawyn: Hey, girls. Egwene: Where's your brother? Nynaeve: Yeah, where's your brother? Gawyn: He's out buying more mirrors. I'll be crying under my bed.
  21. ahh, that would be a good misdirection if those three were just killed by blood-knives and that is why they are missing. i would love to see some more action from the blood-knives. not that I particularly want to see any more AS assassinated, but they are just a really cool idea for bad guys, too cool to only get that one scene in which Suian kills one of them.
  22. comprehensive nerdiness is the best kind of nerdiness.
  23. I pretty much agree with all that. BTW i just wanted to say, "Impressive Bosom", that screen name makes me chuckle.
  24. yeah that's true... i don't remember the circumstances of that story well. wasn't that close to the wasteblight? and not thousands of trollocs appearing by surprise far into the waste like in TSR. i dont have a book at hand but i'm sure it was inside the waste. but something occurred to me - you are right about the whole waste appearance. how did trollocs attack Rand in the waste? Is there a steading there (and thus the ways)? Just what the hell is going on out there?! MADNESS, CHAOS!!!!...oh, that's right...let the lord of chaos rule?... edit: i meant wasn't that close to the blight? yes in the waste, but up by the blight border, don't remember tho.
