  1. Wiggle room?

"For another thing, no one is born ta’veren. Rand, Mat, and Perrin only became ta’veren just before Moiraine appeared."

As for myrddraal and chaneling, one must have an active connection to the OP in order to access th TP. The DO can not grant it to someone who can not already channel.

  2. Two RJ quotes:

"Interview: Jul, 2002 COT: 'Glimmers' Ebook Q&A (Verbatim) Question
Does ta’veren-ness ebb and flow as needed? If Rand, Mat, and Perrin were all ta’veren growing up, it seems that the Two Rivers would have had a lot of odd events occurring, but no mention is made of it.
    Robert Jordan
You might say that ta’veren-ness ebbs and flows. For one thing, remember that even for someone like Rand, the effects are really occasional, not continuous. Even when he is causing dozens of coincidences in a particular place, many more events pass off quite normally. For another thing, no one is born ta’veren. Rand, Mat, and Perrin only became ta’veren just before Moiraine appeared. You become ta’veren according to the needs of the Wheel. Like the Heroes linked to the Wheel, who are spun out as needed to try to keep the weaving of the Pattern straight, a man or woman becomes ta’veren because the Wheel has “decided” to use them as an influence on the Pattern. And, no, the Wheel isn’t sentient. Think more of a fuzzy logic device that uses feedback to correct what it is doing in order to do it in the most efficient way."

Myrddraal are not Trollocs who can channel. Their powers are totally independent from the One Power. They really are just throwbacks to the human stock. Harriet added that there are also animal throwbacks, but they just die."

  3. Hey Mashiara, great write up. There have been a few other comments from Brandon on this topic and they seem to be a little off from what we know historically. Hawkwing didn't so much have issues overall with AS, he had issues with Bonwhin specifically. It's important to note that before Ishy showed up he had AS as advisors and governors in his empire. At least one of his romantic interests was rumoured to be a channeler as well. Contrast that with post Ishy and all the AS being run out of his government and him refusing healing on his deathbed etc.. I think Hawkwing would have played a much larger role in freeing the damane than Brandon seems to think.

  4. Agreed Shadow Rises. RJ made it very clear he didn't ever want any type of shared world scenario. Aside from respecting his wishes the last thing anyone wants to see is the WoT turn into a Star Wars situation where the quality varies from middling to abysmal. Just a terrible idea all around.

  5. Thanks for the review Jason. One thing though.

...purist readers who appreciated Brandon's attempts to maintain a tone appropriate for the series will find that it slips here somewhat, and we get a voice more similar to his own books.

With how often that "voice" slipped over the last three books I can't even imagine what it would be like if it's as you describe. Regardless should be an interesting read.

  6. So ridiculous people are complaining about the cost here, this has become such a pet peeve of mine over the years. Tor releases a fair amount of new material for free and you are paying in order be able to read the prologue before the book is actually released. In essence you are paying to not have to wait!
