Valeri entered the details in the Novice Book and finished the entry with her own flowing signature. Sitting back in her seat Valeri lifted the teacup to her lips and sipped the sweetened tea.
After a moment she spoke, "Did Kevrin Sedai explain the rules of being a Novice in the White Tower child?"
Valeri knew that Farissa would not have taken the time out to speak of such things to a potential Novice but Kevrin on the other hand was much more thorough in these things usually.
The hour was late but the basic rules of the Tower must be known by all, even the newest Novice to allow the Tower to function in an orderly manner, and it would never do to have the rules broken by one who did not even know she was breaking them.

*giggles @ Elgs* i think the end of May is a little too soon - June would be better - we have several getting close to Accepted and they are motivated - they may prefer to get through their Accepted reqs before this kicks in.

Valeri nodded as the child told of fleeing Malkier. It had pained Valeri to hear of the fall of the Golden Crane. As a boardlander herself, that the blight had consumed the magnificent lakes and lands of the Malkeri, had come as an arrow to the heart. If Malkier could fall, so too could her own homeland of Saldaea.
"You have had a difficult time child, but if i know the Malkeri, it has only made you stronger, and more determined to succeed in the battle against the Dark One."
"Did the Aes Sedai whom escorted you here explain what it means to become a Novice of the White Tower? About the studies and rules that must be abided by?"

Valeri was well accustomed to tears, but the sight of this child sliding to the floor with sobs racking her entire body was heart wrenching. Valeri spread her skirts and knelt on the floor. She gathered the distressed girl into her arms and held her until the tears subsided.
Smoothing Liana's hair, Valeri reheated the tea she had set out previously with a thread of fire, then stood, pulling the child gently to her feet and then guiding her to the chair once more. She stirred and extra teaspoon of honey into the child's tea and set the cup in her still trembling hands. "Drink this dear, it will help to soothe you."
"When you are ready, dear, we can continue our conversation." Valeri lifted her own cup and sipped her tea.

Here and reading.... but have a massive headache and this is blowing my mind LOL
I agree we need something to work towards, and giving more room for creativity in RPs can only be a good thing. I also agree that players must submit their posts - it's a habit we can instill from the beginning - if newbies wanted their posts approved for points/raising/whatever they must submit them - preferably for me in one thread per month with one post per person (makes it easier to check them).
I hope i am making sense but i do need to go take some painkillers now :/

Valeri ushered the girl into her study, "Come in child," she said with a smile, "You may sit there." Valeri indicated the chair placed before her large timber desk.
Valeri set about making a fresh pot of tea, she carried a tea tray to the desk and then poured the dark fragrant liquid into the pair of green Seafolk porcelain tea cups. She pushed one of the cup over in front of the girl and took her seat.
"Now child," Valeri said lifting her cup to her lips, "Perhaps you could tell me about yourself and how you have come to be here in Tar Valon."

Unfortunately i am working 50 to 60 hours a week at the moment which leaves little time to look after my awesome Novices and Accepteds, hopefully in the next 6 to 8 weeks things will go back to normal.

"If i catch you playing tricks on your Accepted teachers again you will go to the Farm for penance. Do i make myself clear."
The snivelling wretch before her wiped her nose on the sleeve of her dress and Valeri almost cringed. This child had been one of her most troublesome Novices ever. Constantly talking back to her teachers, straying away from the Tower to the Warders Yards, putting live... things... in their beds, this time it had been frogs, amongst other things. If she had not held such an amazing innate strength in Saidar within her she would have been put out of the Tower long since.
"Ye..ye...yes Valeri Sedai." she whimpered.
Valeri was about to dismiss the child when there was a knock at the door. "You will go to your room and scrub the floor bone white, i will come to check it later."
Valeri pulled the heavy door open and the sniffling girl pushed past a startled lass and bolted through the corridor. Valeri smiled at the newcomer. "Won't you come in dear? I am Valeri Kinaea, the Mistress of Novices at the White Tower. How may i be of service today?"

The knock on the door roused Valeri from her reverie. She smiled fondly at the memories and spoke aloud, "Yes? You may enter."
The door open to reveal a lass in her late teens, in some countries she'd have been married off and had a couple of babes by now. The jet black hair hid her face as she curtsied deeply. As she rose and the hair fell away from her face Valeri smiled at that unmistakably Saldaean nose.
"Come in child," she said warmly, "You may sit there." Valeri indicated the chair opposite her own and turned to take a second cup off the tea tray behind her. She poured the second cup and pushed it over to the raven-haired girl.
"I think perhaps you may enjoy this, it's a Saldaean blend. One of my favourite reminders of where i too grew up. Now perhaps you could tell me what brings you to the White Tower child?"

Valeri nodded as the girl declared her readiness for life in the Tower. She could not understand what it would truly mean of course, but she was willing to dedicate herself. She reached down and opened the drawer where the Novice Book was kept, she set it on the desk in front of her and spoke as she turned to pages to the most recent entries, "This is the Novice Book. Within it's pages are the names of every woman who has studied at the White Tower. By having your name written in it you are sealed to the Tower forever." Valeri did not say that sometimes the Tower let you go - if you proved unsuitable to become an Aes Sedai, Kaylynn would learn about that in her studies soon enough.
Taking up her pen Valeri smiled at the lass seated before her, "Now child, can you tell me your full name, place of birth and your current age please."
As the dark-haired girl spoke Valeri recorded the details in aged leather bound book. She finished the entry with her own signature and set the pen back down.
"Welcome to Tar Valon Kaylynn Tasil Saeed, Welcome to the White Tower, Novice Kaylynn." she intoned with some formality.
She rose from her seat and from the large wardrobe in the far corner of her office she fetched a pair of Novice dresses, shifts, stockings, slippers and a few other items, all in pristine Novice white. She set them in the child's lap and fished a wooden token from a jar on her desk.
Taking her seat again she spoke. "If you take that token to the seamstresses they shall measure you and sew up dresses and shifts to fit you properly, but these will do for the next few days."
"Do you have any questions before i have someone show you to your rooms and about the Tower?"

Another quiet month, real lifehas been hectic - i know, who knew i had a real life?! I having been thinkingabout creating some recruiting sigs for those who want to wear them, will startwork on that in the next couple of weeks.

Valeri listened to the child's tale, the words seemed to tumble from the Domani girl's lips. As he story drew to a close Valeri replied, "So child, you can learn to channel."
The girl nodded and Valeri continued, "Are you ready to give up your life from before the Tower? Are you ready to dedicate yourself to years of training and study? Have you any questions for me before we continue?"
Valeri poured two cups of tea from the steaming pot on her desk and pushed one towards Kaylynn. Lifting her own cup to her lips, Valeri sipped her tea as she waited for the child's answers.

Amadine yawned, she was exhausted. She had spent the past forty-eight hours in the city tending the victims of an inn fire. She had Healed the most seriously burned and injured and then tended the rest with her bag of herbs by her side. The burns had been horrific, several people had died in the fire itself and two more had not had the strength left within them to survive the Healing, despite the fact that Ama had been able to treat the injuries of almost twenty people, she truly wished she had been able to do more for those who had passed away.
The hour was late and as Amadine considered crawling into her bed, her stomach growled. She pulled her yellow-fringed shawl up a little higher about her shoulders and changed direction. The halls were quiet and Ama was lost in thought as she walked.
She turned the corner into the Dining Hall and was surprised to see an unusual number of Sister's dining in the Hall this evening. She wondered whether it was just co-incidence or whether there was something going on that she did not know about.
Ama saw Regalia over near one corner and smiled, it had been sometime since she had been able to sit and talk to her Blue friend. She collected a tray filled with a thick beef stew, pieces of mushroom, potato, turnip and carrot floated in the dark gravy. She took a small loaf of bread and a plate of butter and made her way over where Regalia sat. she carefully set the tray on the table and sat down.
Ray-ray turned that dazzling smile towards Ama and greeted her warmly, they had been friends since they were Novices and had been raised to Aes Sedai in a joint ceremony. They sat and chatted as Ama ate her meal.

Valeri looked up from her reports to see a Domani lass standing in her doorway, a letter in her hand. "I am Kaylynn Tasil Saeed, I have a letter from a Green Aes Sedai that tested me in Bandar Eban."
The child curtsied and extended the hand holding the letter. Valeri indicated the chair placed before her desk, "You may sit there, may i have the letter please child."
Kaylynn sat and handed the letter to Valeri. She took the letter, her own name was written in a flowing hand across the front. The parchment was of good quality, probably quite expensive and when she turned it over she saw why. There was a green seal bearing the impression of the Flame of Tar Valon. So the child had been sent by a Sister then. Valeri broke the seal and read through the letter. It was brief as expected, giving an outline of the events that led to the child being tested and sent to Tar Valon.
Valeri smiled at the dark haired lass seated nervously before her, "This letter tells me little Kaylynn, perhaps you would like to share the full story of how you came to be in my study with me, yes?"

The day was cool and Valeri pulled her fringed shawl tighter about her shoulders, and Accepted entered the study with a tray. "Mistress Laras sends you lunch Valeri Sedai," the girl said with a neat curtsey. "And there is a girl waiting in the antechamber for you."
Valeri took the tray, "Thank you Mailee, can you fetch the lass here for me please."
"Yes Valeri Sedai" she said with another curtsey and hurried out the door.
Valeri set the tray on her desk and lifted the covering, a bowl of steaming soup with chunks of meat and vegetables swimming in it and a few slices of crusty bread spread with real butter. That Laras truly was a gem. Replacing the covering cloth she pushed the tray aside, it would stay warm until after she met with waiting girl. For now though she brewed a fresh pot of her favourite Saldaean blend of tea and set it back on the table with a pair of Seafolk porcelain cups.
There was a knock on the door and Valeri bade the visitor to enter.
“Hello, my name is Fiona Ashlyn”
"Come in child," Valeri said as she poured tea into the cups, "You may sit there". She indicated the straight backed chair across from her own.
The child was dark-haired and pale skinned - she looked Cairheinin, a little taller than average though. "I am Valeri Kinaea. Mistress of Novices at the White Tower. You may call me Valeri Sedai. How may i help you today child?"

I am the same HTAM, i began reading at 14 and now i am 34 - i cannot even remember not having an awareness of WoT in my psyche LOL
