  1. Do people actualy think that was the creator at Tarwins Gap, it was obviously(to me) the dark one

"IT IS NOT HERE. I WILL TAKE NO PART. ONLY THE CHOSEN ONE CAN DO WHAT MUST BE DONE, IF HE WILL."

Doesn't really sound like the DO; you would think all the DO would do is laugh in Rands head. However its possible I guess? Don't know enough about the Creator to know whether it would be him or not.

The better question would be:  "What is IT?"

  2. MB why do you keep answering peoples questions after they've already been answered? If you had something else to add I could see it but all you do is repeat what someone else already said. Or you say even less.

Plus you're wrong. As two other people have mentioned the servants recognized her as Anath which means she was using her true appearance. Or close enough to it that it doesn't matter.  :-\

Doesn't matter. It tells you in big shiny red letters when someone has posted while you've been typing. Whether only 18 seconds ago or not. Check forum mechanics next time.

I am very familiar with the forum mechanics.

Did you know that if you click the "reply" or "quote" links within a few seconds of a new post, that the red warning appears as you load the reply screen and not after you click the "Post" button?  Many people don't look for that warning automatically, they expect a warning when they click the "Post" button.

Which means that if mb clicked "Reply" within a few moments of when the other person posted their reply, mb could have proceeded to type his response and post it without being redirected to the warning.

There is also a profile option that bypasses the warning, which could have been active.

Hand over your dragon pin, Soldier Kovan.  :P

On Topic:  Just after Perrin is rescued from the Whitecloaks in TEOTW he realizes that Lan knows he can communicate with wolves.  He asks Lan if it is related to the Dark One, and Lan is hesistant to respond.  He says it is not directly linked to the DO.  Has Lan known of other wolfbrothers, does he have information that he isn't willing to pass along, is he referring to how it caused Elyas to kill the Warders, or was he misinformed?  Moiraine also seemed familiar with the ability and his yellow eyes.  Why?

Here's an interesting thought. Being stilled or gentled is described in all the glossaries as being done by an Aes Sedai--which means the knife-sharp weave described by Nynaeve. So what you are speaking of when you speak of people who can still sense the source are people who were severed by the knife-sharp weave. Rand 'stilled' Ronaille, Sashelle and Irgain by crushing flows they were holding in fists of spirit, thereby overstressing their ability. For all that he is described to have 'stilled' them because he did it to them, what he did has no resemblance to the the methodology of 'stilling' cited to result in people still being able to sense the Source.

Based on descriptions have your ability over-stress and seared out of you has far more in common with burning out than it does with the knife-sharp severing. Indeed, RJ compares the degree of injury done by stilling versus burning out.

Kurafire: Is it the difference between a clean cut and a cauterized wound?

RJ: Yes, and if you're burned out, you cannot sense the Source

It's the clean cut that leaves you able to sense the Source. Ronaille, Sashelle and Irgaine did not suffer a clean cut--but they were healed just fine.

Yea, Luckers,  well Sylvase isn't a Forsaken, and was never meant to be one!!!  ;D

Really though, thanks for pulling that quote out and summarizing its meaning.  Although now I am even more curious as to why Cyndane isn't as powerful.

  5. Can you heal burning out?

The traditional answer had been 'No.'

    [...]

So, yes 'burning out' can be healed.  But along with my previous statement, the healing would be different.

Actually, regardless of what's written in the books, RJ confirmed that Stilled channelers can still sense the Source, while Burned-out channelers cannot.

Regarding Healing, as we've only seen Stilling (and Gentling) Healed very recently, it's too early to say if Burning-out could be Healed as well. The question has been RAFOed on several occasions (and if memory serves, this one is an on-screen RAFO, i.e. we will eventually FO).

    This, too.  Thanks Yoniy0  :)

I just want to add that, the AS Flinn healed were all cut off from the source in a way that was termed 'stilled' in the books.  The answer may be revealed when we learn more about what happened to Lanfear with the Finns.

  6. Can you heal burning out?

The traditional answer had been 'No.'  Based on information from the books and the quote about the sister going through the arches and returning with her ability 'burned to nothing' and 'unable to sense the source'.

With the introduction of Cyndane to the story and the dynamics surrounding Lanfear's trip into Finnland and many readers assume that she had 'burned herself out' and has since been healed.  If she were indeed 'burned out' then we know for a fact it can be healed, because her transmigrated persona would have also been burned out.

We also have the situation at Dumai's Wells (Pointed out to me by Luckers and Maj) where Rand 'crushes' the points of his shield, which resulted in the 'stilling' of the sisters holding the shield.  This is very similar to the description of what happened to Joiya (or Amico) in TDR Ch. 54, which was also described as a 'stilling' but resulted in her not being able to sense the source.

The final example I have is that Suian was still able to sense the source while stilled (somewhere in book 5 i think).

So...  I want to say that 'burning out' and 'stilling' have the same effect on a person, but the method by which they accomplish it are different.  I would say that 'burning out' is like a light bulb that becomes bured out and you have to change the bulb, while 'stilling' is like a short-circuit that requires some rewiring.

So, yes 'burning out' can be healed.  But along with my previous statement, the healing would be different.

  7. I am not sure if this is a simple question but I'll chance it.

Rand has been having internal conversations with LTT. The consciousness of LTT is clearly real (rather than a delusion) as it has provided knowledge that Rand could not know. An example is he instantly recognizes Semirhage when he sees her in KOD. Now Rand is a distinct personality formed from his experiences growing up in the 2 Rivers. LTT has a distinct personality which comes from his life in the AOL. Now LTT killed himself because he was guilty about killing his family/friends while he was mad from the Taint. He realised what he had done as his insanity was temporarily lifted from him by Ishmael. Now that LTT's personality is living in Rand's head, is he still mad from the Taint.

Does Rand share his head with an insane LTT personality or is LTT actually lucid/free from the taint's insanity but merely rambling through his confusion/grief and guilt from his previous life?

I think that LTT should be free of the taint now that his soul has been reincarnated. Does insanity caused by the taint carry through after reincarnation? I would think not. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

See the BUT thread and the Luckers/Terez exchange for a discussion on this.  Pages 239-241(or so).

Personally, I think the voice was just Rand trying to rationalize things for himself.  He created the voice as a way to explain how he was creating complex weaves and remembering things from his past life.  He didn't want to go crazy, so he split that part of himself off and called it the madman.  Kind of like telling himself 'I'm not gay, but my boyfriend is'.  There is subjective evidence of this in VoG, but that chapter was so well done you could interpret it both ways.

  8. Has anyone ever asked if the Crystal Throne was a compulsion terangreal?  Based on hints that have been dropped here and there, about the overwhelmingly commanding presence of the Empress, and based on the sheer level of almost blind obediance the Empress is able to command, it would not be suprising to find that the Crystal Throne itself was putting the mojo on people.

Just curious if this has ever been explored.

sorry if this has been answered yet but i recall the Crystal Throne was said to inspire awe and fear of the person that was sitting on it i always pictured like the weave Taim uses to create a menacing aura around himself when rand and him go to confront Caddy (forget what book that was) but magnified

Yes.  The description of the Crystal Throne is that it inspires awe in those who approach.  It does NOT require channelling to do so.

The Chair of Remorse in the White Tower does require channelling.  I don't have WH with me, but from the Encyclopaedia-wot, "Channeling into the hole causes one sitting on the Chair to relive the consequences of ones crimes."

  9. there are 5 spokes (or ages) to the wheel but each age doesn't always play out the same.

    Nope.

"Time is a wheel with seven spokes, each spoke an Age. As the Wheel turns, the Ages come and go, each leaving memories that fade to legend, then to myth, and are forgotten by the time that Age comes again. The Pattern of an Age is slightly different each time an Age comes, and each time it is subject to greater change." (TEotW,Glossary)

  10. I've found it interesting how Elza/Semirhage managed to get the dominition band out of Cadsuane's box. I believe Cadsuane just assumes that Semirhage had some AoL secrets for undoing the weaves. However, we know that Sorilea and Bair were with Cadsuane at one point when she got into her secret box. Bair can't channel - so doesnt that leave Sorilea as a very suspicious culprit? Could she be a darkfriend?

    I hope so.

  11. This may not be a simple question, but it IS from a simple person. Or maybe it is. What would happen if someone went in to tel'aran'rhiod in the flesh, and fell asleep wearing a dream ter'angreal? Would a dream version of themselves appear there as well? Or might they dream themselves into another higher plane of tel'aran'rhiod? Also, have we seen any detrimental effect on Egwene having entered in the flesh yet?

I'm picturing the game portal, where you can view yourself through the portal.

The cake is indeed a lie.
