  1. Yes closed as in guests are not welcome. Only invited participants can write in closed threads.
  2. And as a side note, I'm happy to create a character someone else NEEDs to help their story along as well. I don't do leaders anymore that's too limiting. Been there, done that, don't want to do it again.
  3. Honestly I have no real clue yet. I thought about revamping Nox from DM but to keep him with the taint he'd have to be much older than I'd like and to be fair much older than he likes. He was chaffing in my head at the thought of being my age lol. My muse is very picky about how he comes across. I'm currently planning on making a bio that is actually Nox and Mer's adopted son. What he is or who he is I have yet to sit down and tackle since I just talked with Mer to make sure he was cool with the idea. So he'll have grown up on the street. He'll have been raised and trained by two Asha'man one who is slightly mad from his own mental illnesses + the taint, and the other a noble's son. I'm leaning towards him being a channeler. But not sure completely. And then there is always a second possibility of picking up Aiden and/or Kate but they are both darkfriends. Aiden might have a kid, but Kate definitely not, she might be Aes Sedai now. Or another totally unrelated character. but right now I'm still not sure.
  4. I think I'd prefer if the threads marked 'closed' were the marked threads. Because if everything needs to be marked open no one's going to put it in there if they don't care one way or another. Greeters are all well and good. A closed thread by default says we aren't building a story together it says to me that I have this path I want to follow that is set. We participating have agreed this is where it's going. Any interference derails that plan. That should be the rare case. And some threads NEED to be that because it's all about your character arc. And acceptable. I think you tell a better story if someone can throw you a curve ball you weren't expecting. We are building a new place together, telling a new story. We don't have a set of books tying us into the this is how it'll happen type thing. It's our story and we should tell it together, not as individuals but as a group.
  5. only thing I can think of is perhaps the 'war memorial' something that reminds the people of what was fought for and what was lost. But I think you laid out some good ground work.
  6. https://wot.fandom.com/wiki/Field_of_Merrilor <-- a map we can use as reference for the area, to build the city.
  7. I will take a stab at writing a faction. But it'll take me a little bit to decide what I might want to participate in lol. Or I might let the dice help decide lol.
  8. So be vague in the write up? The leaders of the channelers (male and female) are TRYING to unite the Towers under (whatever title) but there is dissent and factions. Give a few examples. But nothing so concrete as to name it, and see what people pick, let them help build and decide what is happening?
  9. Achievements and shinies are always motivating. It's why gamification works lol. I'm okay with that but doesn't really give a newb someplace to start without saying 'hey I need help'. You mentioned the traditionalist RPer. In my very limited RP online experience in forums 3 out 4 forums that I remember (I only remember 1 other site I tried but I don't remember their thread policy) were open first closed only when mentioned was the default policy. One of them was a VERY large site with lots of people. It was all very daunting having to jump into a thread someone else started or hope someone jumped into yours without knowing someone. Granted I didn't stick around too long. But the two smaller sites that I've tried were all very open first which allowed your new blood to jump into an existing plot and just join in. No need to set things up. No need to ask. It was scary. But it gets easier. I just wanted to mention it. Because right now I'm contemplating a character. But okay then what. I don't have a story, no plot, no connection (ic, I know several of you 🙂 ) to anyone really who's around. And if I want to write by myself I don't need DM to do that I have plenty of perfectly good outlets to do that. So it's just a thought on my mind.
  10. [[ not sure if I should start a new thread or not so putting it here feel feel to break it out ]] So one thing I thought about while writing my post was the default policy for threads in the IC world. At DM (in my time anyway) it has always been a thread is default closed to other participants and people jumping into a thread is typically not always welcomed unless it says (open). I honestly think that should change. It's a scary change, I know it was for me. But the truth of the matter is, if you are new you don't know anyone. You don't know where to start. Your bio is approved so now what? Now I need to make a friend to write with. That's can be just as daunting as stepping in. Jumping into a thread can be scary too. But at least you don't have to think up how to start. You just read the thread, and wherever the action is you step in and let them react. I have had so many game changing instances for my characters because someone else threw me a curve ball just be coming into the scene unexpectedly. Some totally off the wall things I never would have done. I just think that if you're gonna change some policies, this should be one that needs looking at too.
  11. I think if you want to split the OP/Channelers it shouldn't be male/female or saidin/saidar split. Split based on something else. And maybe not even just two, maybe three separate factions. One that still believes in the "Servants of All" That are many many many thousands of years many ages before "Aes Sedai" are male/female working together in true Servants of All faction from the Age of Legends. You have those that still fear men channeling -- the Reds garner more than just reds because of that fear. Perhaps their own police force for channelers joining up with Children of the Light, and the Seanchan might fit in here too. Maybe there even a group that is totally anti-channeling altogether. The industrialization group could be another faction. Don't even have to name all the different factions see what rpers might come up with to fill in the gaps. I know DM's past has always been about here are your options, choose. It's hard to wrap around the idea of building the world too as a player. I know it was for me when I started writing away from DM in an RP fashion.
  12. I've actually been thinking about how you could use the OP to make electricity with a basic scientific concept. (For FA purposes but it all applies here since instead of discovering weaves, you are discovering technology). A steam engine sure is limited by the fuel and power output. But what if your 'water' came from the OP? Some ter'angreal of never ending water. Or a wind turbine that was powered by a gust of OP wind at a constant (or variable rate). Solar panels are probably out of your bulwick, but a tiny sun OP powered light for solar panels could work too. Though this is not steam engine era type work. I don't like the idea of electricity being everywhere. I honestly think it should only be at the "institute of learning" where it was created. Or a building they built specifically to show case it. As with all new things, even if they are more accepting, adopting such things takes time. And people would be afraid of it, much like people are afraid of men who can channel freely. I'm not saying don't have it. But I think it should still be in the experimental phases of it. Play it out in game. Electricity is known -- someone's been experimenting. There is even a single building or several in a mock up town inside the city. But let the world decide if we want the steam powered stuff Rand's school started or the electricity we are creating. Or some combination there of. which would include magically powered electricity/power.
  13. I agree we should establish a military base/city watch type 'building' so it's not all about the tower. Yes most people want to channel but not all do.
  14. I like just straight up Aeon.
  15. I like the idea of the city being something related to light or variations on it. Luxington sounds a bit too modern for a WoT city. And AI is having difficulty providing much useful stuff. Luminaria Illumina City
  16. I'd say the 4th age but that's the podcast and might get confusing. At the first age, the ages are named. They call the 4th age "The Age of Heroes" I kinda like it. Focuses on us being the heroes. It is also the age of which the last battle was won but it was what started it the age off with the birth of the dragon reborn. Doesn't have to start then. Not sure if this is WoT lore or FA determined point. We could say when the Dragon was declared, or at the beginning of the Dragon's Peace or which ever significant point in time.
  17. I love the idea of a new organization/city/camp that is built by the allies, everyone has a central home, And 25 years is a lot of time to create a nice set up specially with the OP at work. And even though they are allies and working together even the different factions inside the city of light are going to have descent. A city governed by a council elected by the various groups could work very nicely (or even just elected by the people could have originally been one from the wt, bt, band, etc but changed in the 25 years after set up)
  18. I think we should lean heavier on the books so more people have a foundation.
  19. CONTACT - matalina@gmail.com discord: matalina TIMEZONE - CST (-5/-6? i think) WANTED LINK - ? INTRO: I joined WAY back in Jan of 1999. I've been so many things here I've forgotten some (Warder Org Leader, Warder RP Div Leader, Illuminators Leader, Band of the Red Hand for a while, Tech Admin, some many times lol). Anyway. I'm an avid writer. You can follow some of my work at the Mind of Nox, (links in my sig). I write code by day, mother of 2, married my DM sweetheart many many moons ago. My current obsessions are Table Top Roleplaying Games specifically Solo Play and the Cypher System. I am currently world building a potential game while writing my current remake of my 10+ year story I've been working on. Same character, same basic story rewritten WAY too may times. But I love Nox. CHARACTERS: None active at this time {Extra} Rapidfire - yes Long Threads - sometimes Romance - y Angst - y Fluff - y Activity - depends.
  20. I agree. New blood is always welcome. Always! Before the books, is fun too. Just pick a place. It just doesn't leave as much leeway for growth as we are working in the confines of a system. Which for the masses is great for control. We don't have masses yet (or anymore)
  21. assuming that's two towers 🙂 not two rivers
  22. I'm not voting yes or no to the Two Towers. I think it should be included as a side arc for the story and not the main point of it.
  23. I'm not wanting to do the Seanchan either... not even slightly. You at least hate the white cloaks for in story reasons... the seanchan just kinda came from nowhere imo The Return is great the last battle not so much.
  24. 1000% agree. The world should be built by us who play. It's one reason DM was restricting. We were playing with in the confines of preconceived set of stories. It worked while we were in between books, because it's all we knew. But now, we have an end. We can expand out, do more. I would love to see DM's RP grow to where it was. But we aren't there yet 🙂 Once you nail down something, I'll work a new bio, keep telling myself I shouldn't, and trying to distract myself with new characters at First Age and rewriting my own stuff lol, but DM has a fond place in my heart.
  25. @Arie you don't have a yes for the Two towers one FYI
