It's hard to believe that October is already nigh! I know that we will have some interesting events for you in the coming month. Let's see what the denizens of our forums are doing to close out the month of September.

L.E. Modesitt, Jr. has graciously offered to stay with us until Thursday, September 29th. That means it's not too late to head over to this thread in the General Discussion forum and participate in his Q&A session. Due to the extension of Mr. Modesitt's visit, I will be posting the compilation of the Q&A on the front page this Friday night, September 30th, instead of the originally proposed date of the 26th.

Here's an unusual discussion topic--the people in our General Wheel of Time Discussion forum are chatting about Aes Sedai and pregnancy. Come share your theories about whether Aes Sedai "agelessness" would affect the ages at which they could get pregnant.

The Black Tower Social Group wants to know which game is your favorite in their September Shockwave Competition. If you are a member of this Social Group, you can earn points just for voting.

As promised, L.E. Modesitt, Jr. is currently visiting our forums and answering your questions! He has already answered several questions and will be here until September 25th. I will be posting a compilation of the questions and answers right here on the front page on September 26th.
It's our 13th birthday! That's right, Dragonmount is now a teenager. Help us celebrate by playing in our birthday board. You can even be entered in a random drawing to win a copy of The Eye of the World: The Graphic Novel if you post about why you enjoy our site.

I can haz LOLcats, plz? The Shayol Ghul Social Group seems to be having a blast picking popular LOLcat images to match their members' temperaments. Even if you don't know the members, you'll be rolling on the floor laughing at what they've come up with so far.

So, you think you're a true Wheel of Time geek, do you? The White Tower Social Group invites you to test your mettle against other players in the "Know Your WoT Quotes?" game. See if you can identify who said which quotes and guess the books in which those quotes can be found.

I had never seen a Wheel of Time role play done from the point of a menagerie member until I stumbled upon A Day in the Life of a Menagerie Member today.

Happy Birthday, Dragonmount!

Thirteen years ago today, someone started spamming the existing Wheel of Time message boards with links to his "cool, new site" called Dragonmount. The Path of Daggers was about to be released and all the Wheel of Time discussion sites were buzzing with theories and conversation. Dragonmount wasn't very pretty, it wasn't fully staffed yet, and I didn't know any better, so I volunteered to be the site's Amyrlin Seat. Thirteen years, some staff shuffles, some more releases, and more ups and downs than I care to count later, I'm proud to call myself Jason Denzel's partner in running Dragonmount.

We've had some rough times, and there have been days both of us wanted to pack it all in and go home, but overall, the good times outweigh the bad and we both feel that we've done our part to make the online Wheel of Time community a better place. Whether it's organizing volunteers for book signings, producing the first Wheel of Time podcast, running one of the largest Wheel of Time role-play forums, or just providing a place for fans to hang out and share their love of the series, Jason and I have been honored that so many fans have chosen Dragonmount as their Internet home.

To celebrate our thirteenth birthday, we've partnered with Tor Books to give away one copy of the recently released The Eye of the World graphic novel adaption. To enter, visit our dedicated birthday forum and post why you enjoy Dragonmount so much.

Sound the Horn! The Hunt is on, and may Dragonmount be your hunting-place!

It's almost time for Dragon*Con! This means that some of your friendly neighborhood Dragonmount Admins, including me, won't be able to post things on our front page for a few days because we will be busy representing our fandom at the convention. You'll still see some of your favorite features during that time, but we won't have a Fan Art Friday this Friday or a Weekly Roundup next Tuesday. Everything will be back and better than ever after Dragon*Con, though!

Whether you call it shapeshifting, transmogrification, or metamorphosis, you probably have fantasized at some point in your life about changing your form.
By popular demand, we've re-opened our online store!

Dragonmount's online store primarily contains WoT jewelry items for both men and women. Items such as Aes Sedai rings, Foxhead medallions, and even coursouvas, are available in a variety of forms. These items are crafted by Badali Jewelry, and are available at the lowest prices anywhere right here on DM.

To celebrate the launch of our jewelry store, we'll be giving an extra discount for everyone for the next 10 days. Use the coupon code heartstone to gain an additional 10% off all jewelry items. It expires after April 19th.

The other significant item in our store is the return of the Dragonmount Premium Accounts! By purchasing one of these annual subscriptions, you will gain access to the exclusive chat room on DM, as well as gained increased account space for both your Personal Messages (PM's) and online gallery. You'll also get an additional 5% discount on all other store items. If you are a frequent contributor to the social scene here at DM, then this is a must-have. Also, we have a lot of cool plans for the premium account holders coming down the line. New features will be added soon.

In celebration of these premium accounts, we're offering a full 40% discount on them for the next few months. Enter the coupon code thechosen to receive this discount. It expires after August 1st.

Why we are offering Premium Accounts

Some people have questioned why we are offering this. (Fair question!) The reason is that we are regularly asked by people how they can support Dragonmount. Instead of just accepting donations, we felt that we wanted to give something back in return for your kindness. While anybody can buy one of these, they are primarily aimed at the thousands of fans who spend a considerable amount of time on our forums.

To visit our online store, click the link in our main menu above, <a href="<a href="http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/store/%22>or" rel="external nofollow">http://www.dragonmount.com/forums/store/">or just click here.

Jennifer and I regularly use the @dragonmount Twitter account to chatter almost daily about our various experiences with the franchise. These updates will now be mirrored onto Facebook, allowing you to follow us in either location.

The Wheel of Time Frequently Asked Questions, or "WOTFAQ" for short, has just been updated. This document was originally started in 1993 by Erica Sadun to document WoT discussion that had taken place at rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan, a Wheel of Time newsgroup and probably the first place fans were discussing this series online. Over the years, the series and the discussions grew, and the FAQ did as well. It changed hands several times, finally ending in the hands of Leigh Butler.

Unfortunately, after her last update in 2004, Leigh was no longer able to maintain the FAQ, though it still remained online in several places. In early 2009, Leigh agreed to pass control of the WOTFAQ to Dragonmount. Jennifer Liang (that's me!) agreed to take it on as a project when she retired as an active member of Dragonmount's community staff.

Since the last update, three new Wheel of Time books have come out (New Spring, Knife of Dreams, The Gathering Storm), Robert Jordan started a blog, become seriously ill, and passed away, and Brandon Sanderson was chosen to complete it. Additionally, a lot has changed with the internet and how we use it.

Here are some notes on how to navigate the WOTFAQ:

The FAQ is divided into thematic sections. Section "Zero" is meta-content about the series, it's authors and it's publishing. Section One is about everything that touches on the Shadow, divided into subsections. Section Two is everything else, divided into subsections. Section Three is discussion of Jordan's historical and mythological inspirations, divided into subsections. Section Four is a discussion of prophecies and Foretellings, divided into subsections. Because of the large amount of material this version of the WOTFAQ had to update, those two sections are not current. Then there is a big skip to Section Ninety-Nine, which contains information about the publication history of the series. The reason for the off numbering is so that additional sections can be added (which is very likely in the next update), but still keeping this section last.

Many articles cover very old discussions from the early days of the series. Others are new discussions. An article that has new information added has "Updated" in in the title. One that was heavily re-written will be marked as "Revised." Articles that are entirely new to this version of the FAQ are marked "New".

The WOTFAQ is not meant to be comprehensive. This means there is a good chance your pet theory isn't included (unless of course your pet theory is shared by many).

The WOTFAQ does not have spoilers for Towers of Midnight. Yes, we know that means some articles are incorrect now. Deal with it.

Aside from fixing typos and other mistakes, the next update of the WOTFAQ is planned for 2011, before the publication of A MEMORY OF LIGHT.

Got all that? Good. You may read now. http://wotfaq.dragonmount.com/

On September 19, 1998 www.DRAGONMOUNT.com opened it's doors to the public for the first time. Over the years we've grown from a very simple website and a couple of community "Organizations" to a very large community website offering a role playing game, Social Groups, the first Wheel of Time podcast, and the latest in Wheel of Time news and info. We've had some high times when a new book gets released, or an author on tour. We've also had some bad times, such as site crashes, message board failure and the death of Robert Jordan. Through it all, we've stayed strong and remained committed to being the number one place on the internet for fans of the Wheel of Time series.

We're a little swamped right now with TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT being released in a couple months and with completing our site redesign. However, it would feel wrong to not mark the occasion with just a small birthday present.

Jennifer Liang (that's me!) is giving away THREE bags full of Wheel of Time and Brandon Sanderson goodies. These are items that have normally only been available at conventions like JordanCon and at signings. So if you haven't been able to get yourself to to one of these events, now is your chance to get these items. The package includes:

A WAY OF KINGS tote bag

A "Sly as an Eelfinn" bumper sticker

A Wheel of Time logo bumper sticker

A JordanCon lanyard

A copy of a Wheel of Time comic (issues #00 "Dragonmount")

A WAY OF KINGS glow in the dark wristband

A TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT bookmark

A Brandon Sanderson bookmark

A handmade Wheel of Time notecard

A JordanCon 2010 program

A copy of the Charleston City Paper, featuring an article about Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson and the Wheel of Time series

A Wheel of Time poster map

A Wheel of Time logo pin

How do you get one of these? Simple. Just post below with your favorite memory of Dragonmount over the last twelve years. We'll pick three winners via a random number generator. Sorry, we can only pay shipping costs within the US. But if you're outside the US and are willing to pay for your own shipping, feel free to enter. We'll announce the winners next weekend.

It's been a long time in the making, but the new Dragonmount.com website is finally here. Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this site possible.

You'll find that all your previous Dragonmount username and passwords still work, and that we've preserved all the posts from our old forums.

Please take a look around and enjoy the new layout. But keep in mind that this is an all new site and we're still working out some of the bugs and other oddities.

In the near future, we'll have links to our old forums in case you want to grab some of your recent posts and transfer them over to the new site.
