Greetings all! Hallia here once again for another rendition of Fan Art Friday! This month is on a topic dear to me as a desert dweller. We will be taking a peek at a few very talented concepts of the Aiel!

Our first begins with one of the most popular members of the Aiel - Aviendha! I absolutely adore the shading used by this talented artist.

Heartlines ~ unefleur

The artist in this next piece puts so much action into his art! They were able to perfectly capture a moment in time and translate it into this work!

Mat vs Couladin ~ hamdiggy

What I like most about this next drawing is the way they were able to capture the differences and similarities between two of the paths Aiel women can take in life: the Wise One and the Maiden of the Spear. Their clothing styles may be dissimilar, but the confidence they exude certainly isn't.

Aiel Women ~ nazg

When one thinks about the Aiel, it isn't just who they are, but where they live that comes to mind. This take on the Waste is unique; I especially love the coloring of the sky!

Sunset in the Aiel Waste ~ strangledbyart

The final piece for the week is a rendition of the ever deadly Maiden of the Spear. The coloring in the eyes is stark and lovely contrast to the darkness of the rest of the work.

Maiden of the Spear ~ Etherick

That's all for this week; I hope you all enjoyed! See you next time!

This week's Fan Art Friday is being taken over by the ever useful and (on Dragonmount) chipper Yellow Ajah! This was also a very fun week to work on because of the varied mediums found over the course of my research.

To begin, I would like to start with something I myself would love to have! It summarizes the Yellow Ajah quite well, I think.

Yellow Ajah iPhone 5c Case (made from this source) ~ minniearts

The next piece is quite lovely; I especially love the bright use of colors in this drawing. It makes me wonder if those flowers have a medicinal use!

Yellow Ajah ~ Asrath

And of course we couldn't be talking about the Yellow Ajah without a shout out to the most prominent member: Nynaeve! The look on her face in this drawing captures the perfect deadpan look that Nynaeve is so often striving for. She appears thoroughly not amused and done with all foolishness.

Nynaeve al'Meara ~ fee-absinthe

Of course one cannot be of the Yellow Ajah without the accompanying shawl! This exquisite piece looks quite cozy and warm!

The final work is an outfit that a modern day Yellow Sister might find herself wearing on a day out at the beach!

Keep an eye out next month for a late summer edition of Fan Art Friday!

It is time for another installation of "Fan Art Friday," and this month's topic is an ambiguous one: Whitecloaks! Also called the Children of Light, I for one flip-flopped back and for a few times; are they good or bad? It almost seemed to depend on which individual you were thinking of.

The first bit of artwork I found made me laugh. I am almost tempted to make little bookmarks out of it and pass them out at the next JordanCon.

New Children of the Light PSA ~ minniearts

This next piece shows my personal favorite Whitecloak: Galad Damodred. The style this artist used reminds me of a playing card; deal me in!

The Knight ~ ToranekoStudios

I also wanted to show off a work of art done by one of our own members of Dragonmount! I think this manga style lends a bit of cuteness to the often stern character that is Galad.

Galad Damodred ~ Dawnflower8

Eamon Valda is one Child of the Light that you don't have to bother asking if he is bad or not. I think this piece really captures the scorn Valda is so well known for.

Soldier of Light ~ ianxfalcon

My last selection for this week is one that I think captures the real emotion I get from most Children of Light in the series: condescension. They tend to think that they are better than others, and have a real sense of disdain for anyone who is not one of them. This I think is captured by the quite literal way in which he is turning his nose up.

Child of Light ~ AndreaRule

That's all for this week; stay tuned for next month's "Fan Art Friday!"

Hallia here, taking over Fan Art Friday! With a fresh start, we will be looking at one of the most important and trying occupations in existence: the Amyrlin Seat. There have been many women in this role, with varying degrees of success. Spoiler Alert; look at your own risk if you have not yet read A Memory of Light.

For our very first piece of art, we have nail art done in the fashion of what the Amyrlin represents: to be of all Ajahs and none.

Wheel of Time Nail Art - The Stole of the Amyrlin Seat and the Flame of Tar Valon ~ The Nailinator

There were several notable Amyrlins from the series that we as readers became familiar with. The first being Siuan Sanche.

Flame of Tar Valon ~ fee-absinthe

I found this picture to be very interesting because of the medium used. The small bits of color really are striking meshed in with the scroll-like background!

And after Siuan, there was everyone's ~ahem~ favorite: Elaida.

Elaida Sedai ~ SicilianValkyrie

I find the look on Elaida's face in this piece to be so well done; it captures all the animosity she exuded in the books.

Vying for power against Elaida was my own personal favorite character, Egwene. I found her to be a great leader and very wise for her age. Of all the art from this week, this is my favorite. I find her here just how I picture in my own mind.

Flame of Tar Valon - Egwene Al'vere ~ endave

The final piece is one of Cadsuane. She is the last known Amyrlin Seat, and is certainly experienced enough for the job. I think this is shown particularly well in this piece, with her serene face not falling in the chaos around her.

Cadsuane ~ Jieroque

That's all for this week. Stay tuned for next month's edition of Fan Art Friday!

Let us talk for a moment about Ilyena Sunhair.

Ilyena, by Jinzali

What do we know about her? Well, she was Lews Therin Telamon’s wife, properly named Ilyena Therin Moerelle; mother of his children. Before they were wed, she was known as Ilyena Moerelle Dalisar. (There is some speculation that perhaps this was an error and should have been Ilyena Dalisar Moerelle, since the third name was earned in the Age of Legends and Moerelle was the name that carried over when she took her nuptial name, but it is only speculation.)

We don’t know what she did to earn her third name, but it must have been something of note, as it seems these names were not handed out lightly. Even some of the Forsaken, largely the top in their respective fields, had not necessarily done anything to earn a third name yet.

Ilyena, by lilacwood

We know that she had golden hair. With a nickname like “Sunhair” it would be preposterous to think that she was anything but a blonde, or a ginger. (The Amy Pond sort of ginger, not the Jean Grey sort at that.) Brunette would be right out. But I’ve never talked to anyone who has actually read the prologue of The Eye of the World who thought she was anything but a blonde.

We know that Demandred desired her (because of course obsessed stalker Demandred wanted everything that Lews Therin wanted) and we know that Lanfear hated her in stereotypical psycho ex-girlfriend fashion. Side note – kind of interesting that Demandred and Lanfear were never a thing. I think I may have found a new ship to sail.

WoT Lews Therin Telamon, by manweri

Finally, we know that she, and all of her children, were slain by Lew Therin while he was overtaken by the taint, earning him the name Kinslayer.

She must have had a very interesting life, and I’m not the only one who thinks so.

That’s it this time.

If you have a character or subject you’d like to see featured, drop me a line! I’m looking for folks who do Wheel of Time cosplay or have Wheel of Time related tattoos, or any other “out of the ordinary” art forms, so let me know if you’re interested in sharing.

Welcome once again to Friday, and Fan Art!

Halloween--a time for things that go bump in the night. Creepy crawlies, scary stories, childhood nightmares.

Eye of the World, by Boros Szikszai

But not just these things. The modern version of Halloween has grown out of ancient festivals honoring the dead, and the ancestors. In the intermediate years, it has been seen as a time when the dead can walk the earth, because the barrier between the lands of the living and the dead was thinned or even gone. One well-known festival is Samhain, which is celebrated largely on the British Isles, but there are many, many others.

Of course, not just ghosts were able to get through. Demons, fairies, and other hellish or ephemeral creatures walked the night as well.

Goat-horned Trolloc by T-biddy

Nowadays, of course, Halloween looks a little different. Children dress in costume and go door to door soliciting candy--a tradition which also has deep roots. There are still aspects of darkness in the holiday, though, despite it's seeming childishness.

There are two holidays in The Wheel of Time world that correlate to our Halloween: Amaetheon and Shaoman.

Amaetheon is celebrated everywhere except the Borderlands and is a day of remembrance for the dead. Shaoman is a children's holiday, in which they are celebrated, given gifts, and in some places they go door to door singing songs--and are rewarded with sweets.

In celebration of the day, I've collected some of my favorite Wheel of Time creepy crawlies: Trollocs, Fades, Dragkhar, and yes, even Moghedien! (Personally, I find Semirhage to be scarier, but Moghedien was the one about whom stories were told to small children.)

What's the scariest character/creature in Wheel of Time to you?

It's Friday again, and that means Fan Art!

I'm not sure this is necessary at this point, but there are spoilers for probably the whole series ahead.

Cadsuane Melaidhrin by Jieroque

This week's topic happened accidentally. It was originally going to be all about Cadsuane, because she's my favorite and if I could pick one character from any book to be, it would be her. As I started to write, however, I realized that I couldn't write about Cadsuane without comparing her to Moiraine. It's hard to find art depicting the two of them together, however, since they have almost a The Notebook thing going on, but without the letters to each other and me falling asleep in the middle.

Moiraine by Francesca Resta(niji707)

Most of my comparisons come down to how I feel they did strictly in their advisory roles, and how at odds their approaches were. It naturally made me wonder what it would've been like if they'd both been active at the same time. In talking to my best friend, (Shall we say first-sister here? Yes? Good.) we got to talking a bit about how Moiraine and Cadsuane as rivals would compare to pairs who actually are rivals with each other at the same time.

Hawk Hunting Falcon by fee-absinthe

And so, we come to our topic for the week: Frenemies'.

As much as I hate the term itself, it's in our lexicon for a reason.

Temptress - Berelain sur Paendrag by endave

If there was ever a pair who embodied the term 'frenemy' it was Berelain and Faile. I'm not even sure I need to say anything else about this, except that pretending to be besties in front of your soldiers while also trying to keep the same man in your bed is the most classic example in any work of fiction. It became even more obvious when they purposely decided to and agreed to pretend to like each other in public.

Nynaeve al'Meara by ShinJei

To be honest, there are a lot of these relationships in The Wheel of Time; you could literally just connect any two Aes Sedai or any two Forsaken to each other and they'd fit the term. But some of them are a little more subtle than a Falcon vs Hawk cat fight. Yes, I really did just say that. I'm not taking it back, either. You can just let that phrase rumble around in your brain for a while.

Egeanin and Bayle Domon by Coplins

I always felt like the beginning of the relationship between Nynaeve and Egeanin fit the bill. I've never really bought into the subterfuge aspect. I see 'frenemies' more as being people who don't really like each other, but put a good face on it anyway for the sake of working together on a common goal--while both keep in mind that that could end the moment one of them finds an opportunity in which they no longer need the other. I have no doubts that Nyneave, at least, would've ditched Egeanin at the first opportunity, and I think if Egeanin could've done so without leaving Elayne behind, she would've done the same. In the end, they formed an actual friendship, which blurs the line more.

Al'thor by AlaisL

Men are no exception to this concept; there is usually just less hair pulling. Rand and Asmodean had a very similar relationship to that of Nynaeve and Egeanin. Working together because they had absolutely no one else to rely on for various reasons, and as we saw, it didn't take much for the whole thing to be forgotten. Asmodean's disappearance was barely a curiosity to Rand by that point in the series.

Asmodean by Shorelle

Asmodean is Forsaken. The Forsaken are the masters of being frenemies.

Some other pairings tossed out in a general poll among my friends: Cadsuane/Sorilea, Logain/Taim, and even Thom/Moiraine.

What do you all think? Let me know in the comments if there's a pairing I missed, or you disagree with any of my choices.

Hello! Welcome once again to Fan Art Friday! I’m Seafolk Sedai, and so you probably won’t be surprised that my very first topic will be…the Atha’an Miere.

I’ve been in love with the Sea Folk since the very first time Bayle Domon mentions them in Eye of the World:

The Eye of the World

Chapter 24, "Flight Down the Arinelle"

"There be stranger things in the world than this, though. On Tremalking, one of the Sea Folk’s isles, there be a stone hand fifty feet high sticking out of a hill, clutching a crystal sphere as big as this vessel. There be treasure under that hill if there be treasure anywhere, but the island people want no part of digging there, and the Sea Folk care for naught but sailing their ships and searching for the Coramoor, their Chosen One."

Adventure, strange sites, treasure, and an entire ethnic group that lives on ships? Yes, please. I’ve always been fascinated with the ocean, and all things related, so when I saw a mention of Sea Folk in the first book, well, that was the moment that hooked me on the series. I put my book down, stumbled down the rabbit hole of internet fandom, and fifteen years later I come before you as Seafolk Sedai.

Enough about me, though. Let's get to the art!

Seafolk Porcelain by minnearts

I enjoy a little tongue-in-cheek art! This is really well done, and informative!

Apprentice Windfinder, source "Pattern Weavers" in ''Dragon Magazine: Annual 6''

I found this piece of artwork on what my one semester of Spanish and context clues told me was the page for Windfinders, and I find this image to be stunning. Especially since I have never seen this one before. It reminds me of more traditional fantasy art, and there is so much intricate detail. This is also on the English version of the WotWiki, but Spanish is totally sexier, so I’m keeping Detectora de Vientos in mind for future use. Speaking of sexier, this one pushes the envelope a little for PG-13, but do you know how hard it is to find Sea Folk artwork that is PG-13? My troubles, let me tell you about them.

I know the toplessness is meant for the provocation factor, but I find the attire worn by the Atha'an Miere to be fairly efficient, and pretty egalitarian. It only sucks that the shorebound are so conservative and weirdly mysogynistic for a culture with so many women in positions of leadership that the female Sea Folk feel the need to cover themselves--even if it's only nominal.

Atha'an Miere of Wave Runner by DrowElfMorwen

This is a piece of digital art by DrowElfMorwen for some RolePlay characters. It looks simplistic, but I know that digital art is far more complex than it seems. I like that this artist actually put thought into the colors for each rank, and the accessories each character is wearing, since they're such important aspects of the Sea Folk culture.

Zhai din Eiran by Noiry

This is a lovely image of an Atha’an Miere woman who is Aes Sedai of the Brown Ajah. Seems SweetYuya and I had similar thoughts on what that would look like! I like the sketch/watercolor feel of this piece; usually sketched style art looks somewhat unfinished to me, but this looks completely finished, entirely purposeful, and it’s lovely!

Airelle by Jefita

And now for my very favorite Seafolk image. I’m completely biased. In full disclosure, this is an image I commissioned for a character I roleplay on the Prophecies of the Pattern MUD, which was my first introduction to Wheel of Time fandom. This is another Sea Folk Aes Sedai – Airelle din Diko. Jefita, as the artist goes by online, also has another piece of Atha’an Miere art, but it is of the more traditional sort, and therefore not PG-13: Atha'an Miere by Jefita. It is too amazing not to share.

Sea Folk Man, source The Wheel of Time Roleplaying Game

And because yes, there are men among the Atha’an Miere, here’s a Cargomaster, all decked out and ready for battle.

And that’s it this time! If you have other Sea Folk art that you love, please share it in the comments below. I’ve seen pictures out there of a couple people who have done Sea Folk costumes; if you’re one of those, I want to hear about it!

It's Friday, and that means fan art! This week we'll continue on from last week where we focused on saidin; this week it's time for the female half of the True Source. I also have a special little bonus for you guys at the end!

Portraying the Power must be a daunting task for an artist; I know I struggle to imagine how the weaves look like. I keep imagining the channelers using their hands to form/weave the strands, even though I know they don't. Are the different strands (Air, Fire, Spirit, Earth, Water) different colors? How thick is a normal sized strand of saidin? Do saidin and saidar look different when being being weaved? I have to remember to ask Team Jordan about this if I ever meet any of them!

But enough of my pondering, let's get on with the reason you're all here: the art!

Embracing saidar by Evil-Is-Relative

This is a photo-manipulation, and it's a clever piece. It is described numerous times in the book that opening up to saidar is imagining yourself to be a flower bud opening to the sun, and I like the colored threads that's meant to emulate strands of the Power. I especially like the subtle little heart-shape it creates on the top.

Weaving Saidar: Brown Ajah by polegnyn

This is very cool! A representation of how the Browns especially work with saidar, the square shapes are meant to represent building blocks of knowledge, and the flowers the way every Aes Sedai handle saidar uniquely. I love the composition, it's an exciting piece to look at.

I do wish this one came in a bigger size, because it's absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of the flower from Beauty and the Beast. Great visualization of the opening flower-concept.

Saidar by MeddlerInc

The color was what originally drew me to this one; the lovely sunset-warm golden yellows and oranges. The Aes Sedai in the books describe saidar as life itself, and this captures that. I also really like the simply flower-like shape in the middle, and the shapes coming out of it that looks like soft flower petals.

Learning Saidar by Love-Loyalty-Friends

This is actually how I imagine a weave to look like. This would obviously be a more complicated one, but that's how I think a weave looks like to a channeler. To me it looks like Water in the middle, the purple/pink is Spirit, and the red is of course Fire. Probably not what the artist intended, but that's how I see it!

Now, we can't talk about saidar without having an Aes Sedai included! One of my favorite Wheel of Time artists, David E, just released a new painting, and I wanted you to see it!

Nynaeve, injured outside the Eye of The World. I love the sketchy/dreamy feel it has. This guy is brilliant, no?

That's it for this week! I hope you all will have a lovely weekend! I will, I'm gonna meet Neil Gaiman and get my tattered copy of Coraline signed! Until next week, my lovely readers.

It's Friday, and that means fan art! A few weeks ago I got a request from Lali to do a feature on channelers weaving the One Power. Well, I wasn't quite successful in finding that, I'm afraid. But instead, I found these lovely abstract visualizations of the Source themselves instead. I hope you'll like it Lali! And the rest of you too, of course.

I'm focusing on saidin today, and next week will be saidar. Since most of these are abstract there's not too much to discuss about each single piece, but I'll add some general thoughts after! So without further ado, here we go:

Saidin by Tarkin

Tainted Saidin by lupiskwid

WOT Saidin personified by AzureLightning

I have to say, I think these abstract images are absolutely brilliant. I think that is how a channeler would "see" the Source in their mind. I can't decide between the first three which one I think is the better! The first one I think would be the most realistic tainted saidin (the dark "oily" taint on the outside), the second one is the most dramatic and magic-looking, while the third is just really, really cool. And saidin personified! Fire and ice, and life. So awesome!

And a small bonus to settle us into next weeks saidar-feature:

Flame and flower 1 by Meyrocu

I think that is a lovely representation of the relationship of saidin and saidar!

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, my dear readers! And do feel free to give me requests about art you'd like to see!

It's Friday, and that means fan art!

Today I'm going to deviate slightly from how I usually do things. I've been in a strange mood lately, a bit melancholy. And so this post is dedicated to my wonderful husband, who encourages and cheers me up when I get these moods. So today, we have a feature on Lan and Nynaeve. Their relationship is one of the most lovely I've read about; by themselves they are hurt and damaged from their past and their fears, but together, they grow so strong. They don't love each other despise their failures, but because of them. They grow together, feeding of each others strength, making each other better. They have their rough times and their arguments. But in the end it doesn't matter. They have each other, and that's all that matters.

The unusualness of this post is that I will not be commenting on each individual image. These images tell their story all on their own; they don't need my words cluttering them up. I've included more images than normal to make up for my lack of words though! So let's enjoy and celebrate the beautiful love of Lan and Nynaeve.

It's Friday, and that means fan art! We've hit May, and the experiment of a Brandon Sanderson-themed fan art Friday continues! Today, I have brought you art from Warbreaker. It's a stand alone novel, about Siri, who is sold as a bride for the God King, her sister Vivenna, the mercenary Vasher, and the god Lightsong. It has a very exciting magic system, where people's Breath can give life to things. The story had some twists that took me completely by surprise! As always, I'll try to keep it as spoiler-free as possible, so my comments might be a bit short, but small spoilers might occur. Let's dive into this week's goodies, shall we?

Unfortunately it's a bit hard to find fan art of Warbreaker! But I'm pretty happy with the selection I got.

Warbreaker by DelusionInABox

This is a mock book cover, and although of course no one can ever compete with Don Dos Santos' amazing original cover, this one is really cool. It would make me stop and look at the book if I saw it in a bookstore! I think the composition is so cool, it took me a few seconds of studying it to realize the profile of the caped man! That's Vivenna in front, Siri in the middle, Lightsong behind them, and Vasher in the background. And of course, Nightblood the sword. I really like this!

Vasher with Nightblood by Castaguer93

This image is a bit dark, that's my only complaint with it. Here you see Vasher using his Breath to animate tassels on his clothing; they'll wrap around his hand and fingers and strengthen his grip. Interesting, yes? I really like this version of Nightblood. Properly sheathed, as it should be. You shouldn't unsheathe Nightblood.

A story for the God king by punker--rocker

A quiet moment between Siri and Susebron, the God King. I'm not going say a lot about this, as that will reveal spoilers! But it's a very sweet scene in the books, and I think the artist has captured it very well.

Breath by Emerald-Depths

It is rare that I feature photo manipulations, but this one caught my eye. It's a more abstract capture of the concept of Breath and BioChroma. Very beautiful! My favorite picture in the bunch.

I have a small added bonus today, too! When I had the Mistborn-feature, Occams Whiskey Bottle lamented that there was so little good artwork of Kelsier. So I've gone digging, and I found this and fell in love with it, so here it is, for Occam, and the rest of you to enjoy too.

Kelsier and Mare by LadyRoxanne7

This picture just hits all my emotional strings.

That's it for this week! Thank you all for reading, and as always, tell me your favorite in the comments! I hope everyone has a lovely weekend. Next week we're back to Wheel of Time fan art, and I'd like you to suggest which character you want me to do an in-depth feature of!

It's Friday, and that means Fan Art! I know, I know, I was absent last Friday. I was travelling! I do wish I could Travel instead of normal travel, because that would save sooo much time.

Those who's followed me for a time now has probably noticed I have a big love for digital art. Well, today I wanted to break out of my safety zone and show you all some wonderful traditional pencil art! I got to admit, there's few people I'm so jealous of, as those who are truly skilled in drawing with a pencil only. It always amazes me the detail and realism people are able to achieve, simply with a pencil and paper! And luckily for us, several of those skilled individuals like to draw Wheel of Time art!

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

Possibly my favorite Aiel portrait ever. The background is actually one of the things that draw me to it. It's so extremely simple; a few thin sketchy lines, that manages to convey the Aiel waste. Now that's talent, people. And look at those details in his belt pouches, and the folds in the cloth, how the cloth is slightly compressed under the straps over his chest, how sharp the spears seem, his expression... Wow! I bow down!

I always love seeing portraits of lesser characters, and this one of Juilin is really cool. He is again one of those characters I was struggling to get a real grip on, and then I first found this drawing, and it just felt so right. I like very much that he hasn't been "prettied" up in any way, he looks like a completely normal, average person... Which is a good thing for a thief catcher; he should be able to fit into any crowd. I would have liked to see him with his little hat though!

Wow. Just... wow. Those are some terrifying Trollocs. They really have human eyes, a thing I miss in a lot of Trolloc artwork; they always seem a bit more beastly. To have the more human eyes make them even more freaky in my opinion. And then when you put that next to a face, with no eyes at all... yikes. It's nightmare-inducing to say the least. And drawing armor with a pencil? Excuse me while I go sit in that corner over there, being green with envy!

An unusual motif to capture by Wheel of Time fan artists, and especially in traditional mediums! I'm blown away. I love the different textures, the marble tiles on the ground and the rougher stone of the fountain. The perspective is a bit wonky, but when drawing a landscape scene completely in freehand, that is to be expected. This is well over average, and I think the artist has done such a great job. Look at that shadow from the fountain! And the wonderful spires!

I love images like this, with a lot of characters grouped together to make a whole. Can you name everyone? (Click the link to see the image in full resolution.) I get a bit teary-eyed looking at Lan and Nynaeve there. I think it's the most emotional capture of them I've seen, it's so beautiful. I'm amazed she's manage to put in so many characters and visuals, and yet it doesn't get messy. You can see it as a whole, or choose to focus on certain parts of it.

That's it from me this week folks! Hope you all have a great weekend! Don't forget, if you click the link, you get directly to the posted picture on DeviantArt, and can tell the artist directly what you think of their art. And as always, tell me your favorite in the comments. Until next week!

It's Friday, and that means fan art! For all of those going to JordanCon (and those of us deadly jealous we can't go), I've got a real treat. We're taking a look at the artists participating in the art show, and I've also got an interview with one of the artists.

Edsel J. Arnold

Edsel is a dad to three, he lives in Atlanta, and his favorite Disney characters are the blue fairy and Pocahontas. He also makes, really, really awesome art, strongly influenced by Art Nouveau. You've probably seen some of his Wheel of Time art before! How about we look at his awesome art first, and then on to the interview!

Pink Ribbons - Mat and Tylin

Selene

Graendal

Semirhage

The Ecstasy of St. Nynaeve the Healer

I think Edsel's art is so special and precious. The Mucha-inspired style is very unique when it comes to Wheel of Time fanart, and it is a style he truly masters! My personal favorite is the one of Selene, but I find it very, very hard to choose. I'm very much looking forward to following this artist in the future and see what he comes up with next!

Now let's get to know him a little better shall we? Interview time!

1. What is your own personal favorite Wheel of Time fanart artist/piece?

There are so many, because I'm such a WOT fan… I love all the e-book covers, especially the New Spring cover by Jason Chan, Moiraine by Dan Dos Santos and the Bowl of Winds by Julie Bell. I also like Seamus Gallagher's character sketch of Faile.

2. What will be your next Wheel of Time project?

I plan to finish the Nouveau Female Forsaken… including one wielder of saidin <>. I also have major ideas for Lan, Mat, and Rand.

3. Who's your favorite characters, and moments in the books?

Nynaeve and Mat are my favorite of the Fab Five… mostly because I relate to both. Like Nynaeve I come from a small conservative town and strike a balance between keeping my old values while being attracted to the trappings of exotic cultures. Like Mat, I always complain the whole time while I'm doing the right thing! LOL My other favorites are Verin (BIG fan) and Moiraine.

4. How long have you been doing digital painting?

Probably about 3 or 4 years.

5. Did you do traditional art before going digital?

Yes, I used to paint solely in Watercolor. Pink Ribbons is watercolor which has been scanned and placed on a darker background than the original white paper. However, digital painting works best for me these days because of my scattered available working time between 3 very busy kids and my regular job and my wife working full time, too. I can put it down and pick it up as often as I need to, and nothing's ruined in between!

6. What can those going to JordanCon expect to see from you? Are you bringing prints etc?

All the paintings from last year plus 2 new WOT pieces and a new non-WOT piece. I'll be selling pieces in the silent auction and will also try to make a few open edition prints available as a pre-launch to the print page I'm adding to my website around May 1st.

7. If you could go back in time and talk to Robert Jordan, what would you talk about?

I want more information on Alanna… was she a dark friend… and especially more information on Verin's letters to see if my guesses are correct. In a general sense, I'd like to talk to him about the Seanchan, who I find fascinating, and also about his personal religious beliefs and how they influenced a world without a specific religion.

8. Is there one thing you've always wanted to paint (WoT or not) that you've never been able to do?

I have so many ideas… but some are beyond my current Digital skills. They stay on the list though, and I'll eventually do them as I learn what I need to create them. I have an idea for a Galadriel piece I need to get working on soon.

9. What others books do you like beside Wheel of Time?

Lord of the Rings was my first love, I was enthralled with the history book Warriors of God by James Reston, Jr., and Devil in the White City, and Song of Ice and Fire.

10. Do you have any tips for new artists?

Practice, practice, practice. No fear in art… experiment. Not necessarily the best advice in life, but certainly the best advice in art and design. If art is really what you want to do, don't give up on it even if life throws you roadblocks… unlike a sports career, you can draw until you die. I'm coming back to it at the end of a successful Architecture career. Honestly look at what's unique about your work and enhance it to strengthen your personal style.

If you have the cash, I'd absolutely recommend buying a print from Edsel! And someone stop by and say hi to him from me!

Let's take a look at some of the other artists showing!

Larry Elmore

The Artist Guest of Honor this year in the art show is Larry Elmore! If you haven't heard the name before, you must be pretty new to the fantasy genre! His art is iconic. I was introduced to his art through the Dragonlance books (shown here, Raistilin and Crysania from the Twins trilogy.). He's made art for Dungeons and Dragons amongst others, and his career is spanning 40 years! You can see more of his art at his website.

Melissa Gay

She works in several mediums; acrylic, oil paint, digital art, pencils, and watercolor. Her art ranges from book covers, to t-shirt illustrations. Her works has been in a roleplaying book for the Dresden Files, among other things. Check her out at her website.

Sam Flegal

A specialist in oil paintings, Flegal has made art for Warhammer, among other things, and he specializes in epic fantasy and graphic horror. His works have been used both as book covers and game art. View more at his website.

Ariel Burgess

Our well known and beloved Wheel of Time artist, the maker of the card deck and the calendar for sale through Ta'veren Tees. Burgess is a natural to find at JordanCon! Among other things, you can buy a poster of the image featured above (The Dragon Reborn)! Here's her website. And for those of us unable to go to JordanCon, the print will be available at Ta'veren Tees after the Con!

Now this is just a small amount of the artists you'll see at the JordanCon art show! So for those that are going, the art show is absolutely worth your time!

So, are you going? Which artist's work are you most looking forward to see? And if you're not, how are you gonna spend your weekend?

Until next week, my darlings!

It's Friday, and that means fan art! I'm excited to introduce you all to our new feature: The first Friday each month, will be focused on fan art of Brandon Sanderson's non-Wheel of Time work. There is so much amazing fan art for his other books out there! I can see why; he creates very special and unique worlds and there is a lot of special imagery in his works, it must be like a candy store to artists.

We'll kick it off with my favorite of his stories: Mistborn. I will try to keep these posts as spoiler-free as possible for those who haven't read them, but it's impossible not to give a single little spoiler. I'll try to keep it at the level you'd expect from a book review though! So kick back and relax, and let's take a look at the kick-ass Vin and her Mistborn-world.

Vin says hello by endoftheline

A nice, cozy welcoming moment in book two! I did say Vin is kick-ass. I love the intensity in this image, and that it's in black and white. The composition is really cool and strong. I highly recommend full-view on the picture (click on it).

Steel inquisitor by JasperSandner

No, those are not glasses. Those are metal spikes driven through his eye sockets. Nasty, right? Inquisitors might be the scariest "bad-guys" I've seen. They have enhanced Allomantic powers, so they can "see" even if they don't have eyes. I think this image is so very, very cool. It's an action shot (and I do love action shots), and it manages to convey that this was once a human being, now distorted and changed. The colors are perfect; the grey mist that's common in this world, with a yellow tint, maybe something is burning in the background? The hint of red coming out of its hand looks like blood; the Inquisitors do have a lot of blood on their hands.... And the inhuman form of its body, with exaggerated muscles. I love these guys, and this image.

Vin by Ihazar

This one you really need to click on to get all the beautiful details! Another action shot, yay! (Mistborn is very action-packed). My only complaint: the buckles on her pants are metal, and an Allomancer would never wear metal on their clothes. But otherwise it's perfect! I like how young and innocent Vin looks; even though she's been through a lot, she's still got a lot of innocence. I like this variant of the Mistcloak very much (that's the strips of cloth coming from her shoulders). The floating coins shows us she's in a fight or duel, it's a subtle thing that really adds depth, and also makes it a good, generic picture; it could be a moment from any of the three books. Lovely!

Mistborn: Sazed by Firnheledien

My favorite character in the Mistborn novels, Sazed. I've always had troubles pictures his clothes, but I don't think I will anymore, because this image is perfect! He is of the Terris people, and they wear robes patterned with colorful stripes. Sazed is a scholarly type, so his seat of books is very fitting. I have found very, very little fan art including Sazed, and of those I've seen, this is absolutely my favorite. as I feel it has completely captured the spirit of the character.

Kredik Shaw by Somnicide

If you ever wondered what the lair of a bad guy looks like, look no further! Kredik Shaw is imposing and scary, and wow, this artist has captured that perfectly. The fiery red from the sunset, ash falling from the sky, and mists creeping in.... It doesn't look like a place you wanna be (although Vin apparently finds it pretty interesting, since she's standing there staring at it). Can someone just make a Mistborn movie already? And hire all these amazing artists for the visual side. Because this building is just begging to be on the big screen!

Vin above Luthadel by mking2008

She isn't flying; an Allomantic ability is to push and pull metal, so you can travel through the air by using metal sources underneath you. It's really cool! I like the peaceful feeling in this one, night has just fallen, the city hasn't yet quite gone to sleep, and Vin is swooping through the air, greeting the mists. Great portrayal of the Mistcloak again, this is probably closest to how I picture it personally.

So, what do you think of this new feature in the Fan Art blog? Have you read Mistborn? As always, tell me in the comments which picture is your favorite! Have a lovely weekend, my dears, and I'll see you next week. I'll give you a little hint; those of you going to JordanCon should really check out next weeks blog!

It's Friday, and that means fan art! Well, sort of. I'm back with round two of "art that remind me of Wheel of Time."

First off, my deepest apologies for not posting anything last week! I'll try to make up for it by showing you some really, really awesome art today!

I have tried to keep it to art that is very clear it has similarities to The Wheel of Time. There is a lot of art I see that reminds me of a character or a setting, that others might not even see the similarities. So let's dig right in shall we?

Princess Lauralye by Selenada

Yes, it's another Moiraine-portrait. I can't help that artists seem set on painting her! Although, as someone graciously reminded me in the comments last week, Moiraine has dark brown eyes, not blue. But otherwise I do think it's spot on. She is described as "porcelain doll pretty" in New Spring after all! So I see this as the younger Moiraine, maybe even before she came to the White Tower.

Practise of magic by anndr

I'll admit, this is the painting that made me want to make this series of blog posts. I saw that and thought "Ooooh, Nynaeve!" Nynaeve having a quiet moment to herself, finally starting to feel at ease with saidar after her block was removed. Also fitting since cats seem especially attracted to Aes Sedai.

Comisson: Rand by Selenada

Yes, this character is actually called Rand! Not that it is an image of our Rand, but a commission of someone else's OC (original character) called Rand. But I think he looks more like Galad, yes? Almost too pretty, and very serious. I have always struggled to picture Galad before, but when I saw this image, it struck me instantly as being him. I can easily see every woman in the White Tower, Aes Sedai included, standing around drooling when he's sparring shirtless!

Bartola by ArdenRey

Another Maiden of the Spear (I almost wrote Shieldmaiden... wrong fansite!). Veiled and ready for battle. I imagine her sneaking through somewhere dark, and then her enemy only sees this little glimpse of her in their last moments, as light falls on her face. She looks fierce, and I would not want to be on the wrong end of her spear!

White Tower by SlySharp

It isn't a perfect match for Tar Valon, of course. Tar Valon is much bigger, and is an island in the middle of a river, not located next to a river. But the giant white tower, and the looming mountain behind it, the darkness coming in and the ray of sunlight directly on the city, just screams Tar Valon to me! I also really like the kind of surreal feel over this image, the way it's painted is very fascinating, with the flowing brushstrokes.

Elven town by anndr

And again we visit Tar Valon! The thing that really caught my eye in this one, is the little staircase/bridge, in the upper right corner. Isn't that just a wonderful little detail? Tar Valon has always made me think of Rivendell in a lot of ways, so it's not surprising this image remind me of Tar Valon. The only problem is that, contrary to what a lot of artists seem to think, Tar Valon isn't all white! The city walls are gleaming white, and of course the White Tower is white. But the rest of the city is colorful and filled with beautiful buildings that border on the absurd. If I don't remember too wrong, the fish market building is built like a school of colorful fish! I can't even begin to imagine how that looks like!

That's it for this week, my darlings! Enjoy your weekend, and as always, tell me which is your favorite in the comments!

Hello again my lovelies! It's Friday, and that means it's time for fan art! Except, this week I don't have fan art to show you. Curious, yes?

This week I want to show you art that has made me think of Wheel of Time. I think you all will see why! Now let's dig right in, shall we?

Wanderlust by FoxFires

I will admit, basically any painting of gypsies could be seen as a depiction of the Tinkers. But this one just speaks to me so much. The brilliant colors, the peaceful atmosphere, and the relationship between the girl and the fox. The Tinkers had large wolfhounds after all, so a close relationship with a fox seems very fitting! I can almost hear the music, it looks like she's looking over at the musicians, watching others dance, and enjoying the comfortable warmth of her home.

Character Portrait IV - edit by Jinxiedoodle

Bad-ass Aiel girl, straight up. Okay, her hair is too long for how the Maidens wear it. Maybe she has given up the spear now? That defiant gaze, the red hair, the scars, this character is simply made to be an Aiel.

Blue By Fragmented

This is Logain, just like I see him in my head! Dark, menacing, but handsome. You can see this guy declaring himself to be the Dragon, can't you? The clothing is too modern of course, but it is a black coat!

Ethiopian Beauty by Dark-Adon

No doubt about this one, is there? This is Tuon, of course. She is perfect, just like she is described; an almost too full mouth, big eyes, heartshaped face, and a face that can look boyish at first glance, but when you look again, undeniably female. If I ever learn how to make paintings like these, I could never make Tuon, because this is my ultimate Tuon.

Opale by Melanie Delon

Moiraine, of course. She's truly ageless; she could be 20, she could be 40. Her eyes hold her age and you can see she knows too much, she's seen too much. Blue eyes, dark curly hair, and the blue kesiera. The only "flaw" is that the chain on the kesiera is silver, not gold. Melanie Delon is one of my favorite digital artists, and this is the image that made me find her. It's so beautiful.

That's it for this week! Next week I'll have another batch of art that could have been Wheel of Time-artwork to show you! As always, tell me in the comment what you think. Have a great weekend!

It's Friday, and time for fan-art!

I never did get any requests last week, so I get to decide again what to show you! Yay!

Since the spoiler-ban has been lifted, I wanted to show you art from A Memory of Light. This post WILL contain spoilers, so if you have not yet read A Memory of Light, I suggest you either ignore this post, or at the very least ignore the text!

Demadred 3 by CloodSama

I don't know about you guys, but my jaw dropped to the floor when the Sharans appeared. We'd been wondering for books and books about what exactly Demadred was up to, and then BOOM, there he was. I think he looks a bit young in this image, but otherwise it's really cool. The armor is stunning! I also really like the red background, very fitting.

November image teaser by Ariel B

For those that didn't know, Ta'veren Tees and Ariel Burgess launched a 2014 calendar with Ariel's art (she's the one who made the images for the card deck), and this is a teaser/preview of the November-image. It's Lan fighting Demandred. Lan is seriously bad-ass as always, and this image is packed full with movement. Lan's jump, Demadred's cloak flaring out, the clouds in the sky, and then all contrasted with the Sharans standing there in the background (creepy). Ariel is an exciting artist to follow!

May image teaser by Ariel B

Another image from the calendar, this one is of course The Flame of Tar Valon. I know I teared up pretty heavily at this scene (okay, fine, I didn't tear up, I broke down crying; my husband thought I was crazy). And I love, love, love this capture. The expression is strong and so full of emotions. I really want to see this in full-size and hope I get to buy the calendar soon!

Olver and the run with the horn by thuvia

Olver and Bela fleeing the the Horn of Valere. Poor Bela! That broke my heart a little bit too. The artist really knows horses, the anatomy on Bela is really good, and the detail of the sweat foam and her labored breath is very good. It's not exactly how I imagined the Horn; I've thought it was golden and more elaborate, but it fits very well into the context of this picture.

The living and the dead by Alsdale

Or Peregrine, as we know her as here on Dragonmount, a former Fan Art blogger, and the wonderful artist who made the banner on our Front Page! This is Elayne, Aviendha, and Min at Rand's funeral pyre. Her style is so unique and wonderful! The dresses are beautifully detailed and the frame adds extra depth do it.

But it was an end by TheLastRonin

Rand, riding off into the sunset, smoking his pipe. It's a perfect ending to this post, just like it was perfect for the book in my opinion.

And now it's time for us all to ride into the weekend! Enjoy yourself dearies, and as always, tell me what you thought about the art in the comments!

And so we are here, yet again, it's Friday and fan art time!

Today I wanted to focus on something completely different than we have before, namely graphic design-style fan art! And boy do I have some cool things to show you!

Ta'Veren 2 by armyamber

I'll admit it, I'm a sucker for grunge-effects. I really dig the rusty background contrasted with the shiny golden amulets. It's cool! The only thing I don't like about it is that it's too small for my screen to be my new wallpaper!

Light and Bloody Ashes by armyamber

I love the colors, proper fantasy green and brown! And those slashing light effects are pretty awesome, they remind me both of the True Power weaves and the slashes of a sword.

Aes Sedai by minniearts

Minniearts has several poster-style Wheel of Time artworks, and it was hard to pick a favorite! But this one is my favorite; I got a good laugh at "The Wheel of Time turns around Tar Valon," and the simplicity of the design is very good. Take a look at her gallery to see the rest of her cool posters!

Heart of Stone by moondi

A representation of Rand's heart. He is trying to turn his heart to stone, but there keeps coming new cracks. The geometric designs makes this something really special, it reminds me of a stained glass window.

Manetheren by armyamber

My personal favorite! I think this is so badass. The small picture really doesn't do it justice, you should click the link to see the proper full size!

Sorry for my shortness today kiddos, I have some internet problems, so this it from me this week! To make up for it I'll let you decide what we'll see next week! Is there a special character you want me to feature? Traditional art, 3D, digital painting? Let me know what you want, and I will oblige!

Happy Friday again! I belatedly realized that since last Friday was Valentine's, I should’ve used that as an excuse to make a post about the couples of Wheel of Time. Ah well! Some other time then.

You might remember me saying that the fashion in the Wheel of Time universe is one of my favorite things to geek about, so today I thought we’d look into that, in the art of Joni Warden, or JWarden as she goes by on DeviantArt. I also thought it would be nice to get back to some traditional art!

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     />
First up, we have this lovely Domani lady. It is filed under traditional art/drawings on DeviantArt, so I’d guess it’s made with colored pencils? The colors are fresh and lovely. The outfit isn’t quite how I think the Domani’s dress; I seem to remember it being mentioned the gowns don’t show any skin, but they are hugging the body and some are… not very opaque. So for this to be completely accurate it should probably have a high neck. But, it’s still very lovely, and I love the look on her face. Very "come hither!"

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     />
The detail in the lady’s hair is amazing, I just want to sit and stare at it! It looks really cool, and so heavy! The men really get it easier. The high necks and the lace is very accurate to how I remember Robert Jordan describing it. I’d like to see this artist's version of a Cairhien gown and coat, with the House colors on them!

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     />
Hooray! One of the very few who remember to show the Aiel female warriors with properly short hair. I’ll admit, I shake my head a little when I see a picture of a Maiden with long hair. The man has a quite "nordic" look to him, which is very correct when it comes to the Aiel, and they still look a bit exotic. Very cool, and I like the details of the shoufa and the spears.

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     />
And the prize for weirdest hats go to… Amadician women! The bonnets are strange, but undoubtedly very practical in a southern environment with very strong sun. I can’t remember right now if we are told Amadicia is based on a real life culture/land, or if they are just a "generic" country, but I very much like the look the artist have given them. They look a tad Hispanic, but not so much as they would if they were from Tear. Actually, I’ll take that back. Especially, the man looks more Greek. Either way, it’s cool that they have a distinct look.

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     />
This I’m a bit puzzled at, since the man looks quite South-American, and the woman looks like a Scandinavian woman. Andor is based on Tudor era England. Either way, I really like the braid and the shawl tying the hard back, and the striped coat is very cool.

I'm really impressed by her portraits of the various fashions!

I think the artist used to be active on Dragonmount before and was a member of the Green Ajah, like me, which is very cool!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Happy weekend DM’ers! Now this week I was planning on showing you guys something other than digital painting, and then I stumbled over a new artist, and I just had to share his works with you!

Today I’d like to introduce you to Endave, or David E. He’s made a lot of Wheel of Time fan art! I’m going to feature some of it here, but I do hope you’ll go check out his DeviantArt gallery afterwards! Link at the bottom of the post.

My favorite thing about Endave’s art, is how he uses details. Some parts of an image will be really sharp and highly detailed, the rest will be more roughly painted. It’s a great way of drawing the eye to the important parts of the image, and enhances it greatly.

Thom Merrillin

This is Thom charging at the Myrdraal in The Eye of the World. I don’t have words for this picture really; it’s astonishing and mesmerizing. Thom is one of my favorite characters, and this capture is one of his finest moments, the moment I personally fell for him.

Wisdom of the Two Rivers

It’s refreshing to see a painting of Nynaeve before leaving Emond’s Field! I love her expression, her body language says she’s tense and annoyed, but the face shows uncertain and fragile she can be. Excellent capture! The surroundings makes me want to see more of Emond's Field!

Next up we have two different portraits of Egwene:

Egwene Al’vere

Again a portrait back in Emond’s Field before the adventures ever start. It’s Egwene at Bel Tine, and it’ll have to be the year before The Eye of the World starts, since her hair is still loose. The soft, flowing background gives the image an ethereal quality, and I don’t know if this was the artists’ intention, but the flowing fabric in the background can be seen as a subtle foreshadowing of Egwene’s destiny.

Flame of Tar Valon - Egwene Al’vere

And here we have a portrait of the Amyrlin. A bit older, and loads more mature. I like that she’s in a white dress; a strong nod to how she was a forced "novice" and the Amyrlin at the same time. I also really like the architecture in the background; it’s supposed to be Tar Valon, and all the bridges and towers look good!

Madness - Rand Al’thor

What is there to say… A perfect representation of how it must feel like to be Rand around The Gathering Storm! The rough lines are great at showing the emotion, it’s a high-impact picture! That's of course Callandor in the foreground.

Ash’man Kill!

Since we had a picture from Dumai’s Well last week, I just had to include this. The battle of Dumai’s Well is probably one of the toughest things I’ve ever read, and the appearance of the Asha’man was, for me, just shocking. We’d seen over and over how difficult it was for Aes Sedai to be able to use the Power to attack, and then we see the Asha’man just explode with attacking power. A very strong mental image, and this is a very good physical capture of it. I especially like the depiction of Taim and his Dragon coat!

That's it for this week! As always do please tell me what you think of this weeks batch, and go look at the rest of Endave's DeviantArt gallery! This is a quarter of his gallery, and the rest is well worth looking at!

Happy Friday, fan art fans!

Last week, I posted my own personal favorites, and amongst them was a painting of Egwene by the artist Jieroque. His real name is Benjamin Roque, and he is from the Philippines. Well, I wanted to show you guys the rest of this amazing artists' gallery! So no use waiting, let's dig in shall we?

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     Meladhrin

Say what you will about Cadsuane, there is no denying she is bad-ass, and this is a great painting of her. This is set during the cleansing of the taint, when she is protecting Rand and Nynaeve. The bright light in the background is the huge beacon of saidar. I like that the artist hasn’t tried to make her look pretty; she looks strong and capable, and a little bit mean, just like Cadsuane should. The way he’s painted her hair ornaments is very interesting, especially that one of them glows, to show that it’s activated. The details of the embroidery on her belt and the texture on her cloak adds so much to her otherwise simple clothes. A painting I could stare at for hours!

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     Sanche

From the scene in The Great Hunt, where Siuan gives Egwene and Nynaeve a lesson in saidar. Tear, where Siuan is from, is highly influenced by 15-1600ish Spain, and the artist has incorporated that into the image beautifully, giving Siuan a slight Hispanic cast to her features, and in the details of the clothes (the lace, the high neck). A compelling portrait of a very interesting moment.

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     Harking and Kiruna Nachiman

An action scene from Dumai’s Wells, depicting the two Greens Kiruna and Bera together. I think this picture does such a great job at showing the chaos of the battle; it’s an unusual composition, with Kiruna almost a bit out of focus, the saidar-streams going everywhere, the fire, and the blurry Aiel in the background. And I love the Shienaran warrior!

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

A study of a small scene in Towers of Midnight; Egwene conferring with Seaine, Yukiri and Saerin on top of the White Tower. This is a high-impact image for me personally. Egwene, looking so young, and with the whole weight of the world on her shoulders. And some of the very, very few women she knows she can trust. The details are amazing; all three women have earrings that showns their nationality (eagle wings for Egwene for Manetheren), the three Aes Sedai in the background all have their serpent ring on different fingers, and the clothes…! I really like the sense of impending drama the blowing banners and the gathering clouds give.

<a data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' data-ipb='nomediaparse' href='

     Mathwin in Emond’s Field

This one has been featured here on FAF before, but I wanted to include it so you could see the full span of this amazing artist’s work. And there is never enough Verin artwork! It’s so nice to see Verin’s kickass-side. This is the artists first digital painting after ten years of not painting, can you believe it? The details in it is amazing. The Trollocs are amongst the scariest I’ve seen, and I really like the little glimpse of Emond’s Field in the background, looking quite peaceful against the action-filled foreground.

Check out the artist's blog for works in progress and to get to know this talented artist better!

That's it for this week! Use that commentary field to let me know what you think, and if you have a DeviantArt account, maybe stop by and give the artist a favorite and a follow?

Have a nice weekend everyone!

It's Friday, and that means Fan Art!

You might notice it's a new person writing this blog... I'm Misheru, or Mish as most people call me, and I'll be your resident fan art blogger from now on! I'm in my mid twenties, from Norway, and here on Dragonmount I'm an avid mafia player, and I tend to hang out in the White Tower Social Group, where I'm a member of the Green Ajah. I love Wheel of Time (d'uh!) and my absolute favorite thing to geek out about, is the fashion and clothing. I love how detailed Robert Jordan was in making each country and culture have such distinctly different styles, and it's something I'll explore a bit with you guys.

I thought I would kick this off with showing you some of my own personal favorite pieces of fan art!

Well here comes the fashion-geek straight out of the box! Andor is heavily influenced by Tudor-era England, and the clothing in this painting is a strong nod to that. I really like how Elayne both looks regal and capable, while still looking like a young woman. It looks like a royal portrait commissioned to hang in the halls of a grand castle. To me, the placing of the hands look a little like she's used to holding a sword, which is a fine nod to Elayne being of the Green Ajah, and being ready to be a general and leader in Tarmon Gai'don.

The artist says in the description she's hoping to make a series of character portraits, I do hope so, I'd love to see more from her!

The artist said this is a commission from her boyfriend. I really like the colors, the ambiance and the format of the picture. The slightly cartoon-ish proportions fit Mat very well. It's got all the things a Mat portrait should include; the hat, the dice, the asharandei. The red hand-symbol gives the image a powerful contrast; the painting itself is very serene, but the hand reminds us that it's rarely Mat gets a serene, quiet moment... And makes him look like he's ready to leap into action even though he's just sitting there lounging right now.

¨

Moiraine Sedai, by tinazz

I can't post my favorites without including an image of Moiraine, since she is my all time favorite character. I think this depiction by tinazz is fantastic! The border and patterned background remind me of Cairhien (the pattern on the border looks like a strong nod to the rising sun of Cairhien, no?). The composition with the flowing cape gives the image a sense of drama and action. Her face is great; a perfect representation of the Aes Sedai "ageless" look. I do find it a bit funny that her hand is making the gesture that is described as the Seanchan gesture of warding off evil.

You can say what you will about Egwene--love her, hate her--but you can't argue that this painting is amazing. It's so strong, and depicting one of the most exciting scenes in the books, in my personal opinion. It's a strong and fierce composition, the dynamic pose, the debris flying in the air, the lightning bolt, and the raken plummeting towards the ground in the background. The artist has chosen to use a rather limited color palette, which enhances the dramatic feeling. Lovely!

Moridin, by laenare

....Hmmm? Oh, right, you're probably waiting for some commentary from me. I got temporarily distracted by those eyes... *clears throat* Anyway! The painting style is amazing; by far my favorite depiction of any of the Forsaken. The background with it's dark colors and smoke gives it a suitable menacing ambiance, and the facial expression is strong, a bit arrogant, and I at least see a bit of his insanity. I'm just waiting for the saa to swim over his eyes. I'd love to see the artist do a similar portrait of Rand; she has a portrait of rand but I'd love to see a "twin" of this portrait here, same composition and crop, with Rand's face. I think it's so interesting that Moridin doesn't look downright evil here; the artist has managed to capture that duality that makes Moridin so interesting.

So, that's some of my all-time favorites! Which one do you like the best of them?

Well, after a long hiatus away from the front of the house, Mashiara was kind enough to let me take Fan Art Friday back from the very capable folks who have been maintaining this blog. It's amazing how much free time I have now that the Wheel of Time is finished.

Anyways, since this blog is, in some ways, going back to the beginning, I wanted to go back to my beginning at Dragonmount and feature the art of one of the first people I met through the site: Joe Trimarchi. Like me, Joe's not around the forums much these days, but the two of us have been good friends for a very long time. In fact, he played my Warder in the RP for several years and volunteered as part of the Wheel of Time track at DragonCon too. He's been an important part of my life for over a decade and I'm pleased to introduce you all to him.

Joe has been making fan art, Wheel of Time and otherwise, since the mid-nineties. That's an eternity in internet time. Some of his stuff looks a little dated, since he works in digital medium, but the strength of the work still comes through.

This is one of those early pieces, "A Time for Iron," based on the chapter of the same name from A Path of Daggers. It's a dramatic scene of Rand's campaign against the Seanchan invaders.

One of the things I've always liked about Joe's art is his willingness to tackle subjects no one else was. When we had a thousand fan art renditions of the Stone of Tear, Joe tried to do something different, like this image of Rand at the archeological dig in Cairhien. This scene is a lovely bit of foreshadowing for the Choedan Kal and their importance in the later books. Joe gives this scene an appropriate amount of mystery.

As technology improved, Joe took advantage and created this illustration of the cleansing of saidin.

If you like Joe's art, check out out his deviantART page. Most of his recent stuff is comic book themed, but there are plenty of gems for Wheel of Time fans.

Welcome to Fan Art Friday! This edition's theme is Moiraine. Moiraine Damodred, Aes Sedai of Blue Ajah, is the best example of what an Aes Sedai is supposed to be. She is a true Servant of All. Her whole life had only one mission--find Dragon Reborn and save the world. The time when she was supposedly dead was painful for most readers. With the knowledge of all the Prophecies of the Dragon, she had taken the mission to make Rand al'Thor ready to face the Last Battle.

I love this image. If I say that the whole theme was just to showcase this image, then I am not lying.

Calm, serene, with vision in her eyes.

It's the eyes that drew me. There is some hidden depth to her eyes.

This depicts her as an Aes Sedai more than any other picture.
