DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

The Tower Guard Program

Luckers

On November 2nd, Towers of Midnight, book thirteen of the Wheel of Time, will be released around the world. Beginning at midnight that morning, Brandon Sanderson will kick off his U.S tour. You can get the exact times and locations of each tour stop below.

For each one of the book tour events, Dragonmount will be recruiting approximately 5-7 Tower Guards. The Tower Guard will get the rare opportunity to meet with Brandon and Harriet in a casual setting before the actual book signing, and discuss whatever you guys like. You can also get your books signed and personalized in advance. The amount of time you'll have to hang out will vary from city to city depending on Brandon's schedule, but right now we're estimating that it will be about an hour. And, of course, you'll receive an Official Collector's Edition 2010 Towers of Midnight Tour T-shirt. (Oh yeah)

In return for this opportunity, we're going to put you to work. Each member of the Tower Guard will be asked to help document the event in different ways. Some Guard Members will take photos. Others will take notes and do a blog write-up for DM to share with the wider community. Some will hand out promotional material to people standing in line. If the bookstore needs help organizing lines, one of the Guard will be there to help. If Harriet needs a glass of water, the Tower Guard will be there to take care of that.

Another important task for some of the Tower Guard will be to get involved on our message boards, and on our Facebook group to help promote the event. We'll probably ask that each "regiment" of the Tower Guard get together in person at the bookstore once before the event in order to work out the logistics and delegate tasks to be in charge of. You'll be provided with a packet of more detailed guidelines once the teams are assembled.

What are we looking for in members of the Tower Guard?

First and foremost, we're looking for people who are excited about this book release, and excited about meeting Brandon, Harriet and your fellow fans. Because being a member of the Tower Guard requires a lot of organization and initiative, we're looking for people who are proactive and willing to work a little bit. Age isn't a factor. In fact, we want to put teams together that have a diverse range of ages. If you have some good experience in organizing club activities, or have been a contributing member to the various online WoT communities, be sure to mention that in your application. Above all, tell us why you should get selected and why Brandon and Harriet might want to meet you.

What if I'm just a casual fan but still want to be a part of this?

No problem. You don't have to have been a part of a WoT community staff for the last decade to get involved. As long as you're willing to help with the tasks that need to get done, then we'll consider you.

Who's doing the selections?

Jason Denzel, Jennifer Liang and myself (James Luckman) will be going through the applications and putting together interesting and diverse groups. We don't accept bribes, and we hope you won't hurt us if you're not selected. We're expecting a pretty big turn-out of applications. Everyone will get a fair shot. We might even save some open slots to be filled by random selection.

Okay, so how do I apply?

We are now accepting applications. To apply, fill out the web form below. You cannot apply more than once, but you can list your first and second choice of events to attend. You cannot serve on the Tower Guard for more than one event, and we regret that we cannot choose you again if you were chosen as a Storm Leader last year.

The deadline for applications is 11:59 PM (U.S. Pacific Time) on October 8th.

We will review all of the applications and offer positions on the Tower Guard to people within a week after the deadline. This should hopefully give you enough time to get the day/afternoon/evening off from work or other commitments.

Anyone else applied for New York? I'm not asking so I can take out the competition or anything... just curious ;)

I was fortunate to be a Storm Leader a year ago in Virginia, and had a great time with a good group of Randmates. Having dinner with Brandon was a pleasure. If you haven't applied, do so. If you're selected, it's well worth the time to volunteer.

I think it'd be sweet if the next release groups were named after the Aiel warrior society Rahien Sorei (Dawn Runners) because it's like we're at the dawn of the book release of a memory of light and we're "running" the tour stops (not really, but at least helping lol). get it? I think it fits perfectly.

I wasn't aware of this program last year but saw the people helping. It looks like this would be a blast. My wife even OK'd for me to go to the signing on her birthday. What an awesome woman.

SO EXCITED to read the ending to the Wheel of Time! These books just can't come out fast enough!

Hmm.. Mayhap something pertaining to the Dragon or the light... Children of the Dragon? Friends of the Light? Deserves more thought, particularly after we see where things stand (or sit as the case may be) after tToM.

*Laughs* And here I was picturing either your or Mrs. Harriet/Rigney comment that Sanderson would be surrounded by whitecloaks...

What if you were not finished the application, and your 1 yo grandson hits the keyboard and submits it? Oh well...will any other book stores be added? The one that had the signings many times before in West Chester,PA is not listed this year.

I've been a mess waiting and seeing if I get chosen to be one of those lucky few people. I know they said a week, but I keep on looking at my phone and my e-mail waiting to see some kind of message. I really want to be one this year! Please, please pick my application forum....

Oi, this waiting is going to kill me! ^_^

I'm wondering too. Has they been officially chosen yet? If so, have they already been notified?

If, by any chance, I was chosen, I have to ask work off for the day before... so I would like to be prepared

it's very foreboding... I want to know, but I don't want a negative outcome... lol it's like waiting for a blood test to come back... I'm 22 and it's giving me gray hair... ha... I'm with jemron and drwirz; can we get an update please? at least if the time-line set up is still correct... as in we'll either know today or not?

I've been eagerly waiting too. I would love to be part of the Event! Peter Ahlstrom told me that he has heard that they will announce it soon.

So excited for ToM!

Well, I'm so happy to hear that I'm not the only one sweating bullets here. I have been sitting around like a kid waiting for Christmas morning to come. I've been a little recluse at work, and people have been wondering why I've been checking my phone so much when I hardly ever use it. I even surprised a friend of mine when we were at the movies yesterday. I'd forgotten my phone in the car and I literally ran out of the movie to go get it, so I wouldn't miss a call or e-mail if it came in.

I'm with the others though, some kind of update would be a good release...and a euphoric one if i'm chosen. ^_^ XD

It's been a week, the suspence is killing me. It would be nice to have an update, even if it's just we are still going through them. At least that way we all still have hope.

Not to repeat the previous posts...but, has anyone heard anything? I have been checking on here and my email continuouly for the past few days. I have convinced myself I didn't get picked and been consumed with jealously for those who did, then return to my optimistic self and hope for the best. This routine is slowly eating away at my sanity.

We've made our picks and I'm just waiting until I get permission from Tor to release names. Justin is trying to finalize some details. Sorry about the delay, but I promise its for a good reason.

I'm assuming that means that no one has been notified yet and that you will notify everyone once Tor gives the ok, since they'd go blabbing on DM that they got picked... at least, that's what I'm hoping.
