AMOL Prologue Available for Pre-order

Jason Denzel

Tor Books announced today that "By Grace and Banners Fallen", the prologue to A Memory of Light, will be available as an eBook for purchase and download on October 2nd.

“By Grace and Banners Fallen” is available as a pre-order $2.99 as either an ebook or audio download. The DRM-free eBook version is directly available on our website for purchase now. After pre-ordering, your eBook will become available for download on October 2nd.

A man who loves the hunt begins a new pursuit, red veils appear, and one of the Forsaken stands newly revealed. The forces of the Shadow swell in triumph as the world unravels. By grace and banners fallen, the Last Battle has come.

The full prologue is a lengthy, action-packed chapter that has intense scenes and some great surprises. "By Grace and Banners Fallen" is the final Wheel of Time prologue. There's no doubt that Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson left some great surprises for us.

If you intend to buy the eBook prologue, please consider doing so from our website. You'll get DRM-Free versions for both the Kindle and ePub. You'll also be helping to support this website.

It has been a tradition of the series since Winter's Heart (released in 2000) where the prologue was released as an eBook several months in advance of the actual novel. The prologues tend to be about 40,000 words; or the length of a short novel. For many fans, paying $2.99 is worth getting that much content, especially when it is released 3 months before the full book. We certainly think so, especially when "...one of the Forsaken stands newly revealed!"

Just like all the previous volumes I'm skipping the prologue and any previews... especially since this is the last volume. I'd rather not pay for the prologue twice, nor do I want to wait another 3 months to read the rest of the book after this first 100 pages. I've waited 20 years for the end, but I don't want to get bits and pieces, I want it all at once.

What a shock, only the US and Canada. Do Tor really think there are no other countries?

    This is eBook...regions don't matter.

This is an eBook, that's why regions matter. Importing physical books is a lot easier than eBooks. It's mentioned in the faq on eBooks here and if you try to purchase eBooks without using an American billing adress you're unable to check out.

thanks for informing.....that's just sad :(

Hey guys, I spoke to Orbit earlier today about the possibility of UK and Australia based Prologue sale and they appeared open to the possibility. They're gonna get back to me sometime early next week (apparently their offices were being evacuated at the time, lol).

Couldn't you just enter a US billing address? That has worked for when ordering digitally distributed games from Amazon US but I don't know if it would be different for kindle.

Ok so conflicting info for Canadians:

We should be able to buy it because:

    a) Tor has the market rights for Canada

    b) I've had no problems in the past

    c) They listed the compatibility with a Canadian eReader (Kobo)

    d) It says US/Canada here:

    http://www.dragonmou...emory_of_Light/

...but we might not because it says US billing address ONLY here:

    http://www.dragonmou...s.php#countries

"At this time, Dragonmount is only able to sell eBooks to visitors who have a billing address in the United States."

...yet on that same page it is listed as compatible with a Kobo (the Canadian eReader).

    Clarification please.

Ok, just tried to buy it with my Canadian address. FAIL

"Thank you for your interest in purchasing an eBook from Dragonmount. You have most likely been directed here because you added one or more Tor eBooks to your shopping cart, but do not have a billing address in the United States.

Unfortunately at this time, we are only able to sell Tor eBooks to visitors who have a billing address in the United States. We love our international customers, and it is our strong desire to be able to offer eBooks to you. But due to technical and legal limitations, we can only sell them in the US. We are actively working to change this in the near future. Please check back to our store every now and then to see if we've made progress.

    Important Note

Not all of our eBook titles fall under this restriction. All of our independent titles, including Brandon Sanderson's "Legion", are available worldwide. To purchase these items, add them to your cart, but make sure there are no Tor titles in your cart."

PLEASE FIX THIS JASON (or whomever is responsible). TOR has the Canadian distribution rights!!! (or provide a link to the store that will sell it to Canada).

I could send the book to someone when I'm done with it, right? I have many 3$ to spare, and I'm pretty sure they would have been fans of the books longer than I have...

Hi folks, At this time, for various technical reasons, we're unable to sell eBooks to people with Canadian addresses. I hate that we can't do it, but it comes down to a technical limitation of our storefront software. I'm actively pushing to have this functionality added. But right now, we just can't do it without meeting the requirements Macmillan has for our online store. As soon as Amazon.ca has the prologue available online, I will be sure to link all of you to it. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you for replying. I would really prefer to buy the DRM-free version. Hope this gets fixed.

    A possible solution for Canadians:

McNallyRobinson (one of the largest independent bookstores in Canada, based out of Winnipeg). They have partnered with Google Books. The prologue is 3.99$CAN. (same price on Google Books' main page, so why not support an independent bookstore?)

It is currently listed (unlike amazon.ca or chapters.indigo.ca) and I assume it should become available on Oct 2nd.

Search their ebooks for "By Grace and Banners Fallen"

@ People in the UK and Australia. Google Books operates in your countries check to see if you can see it or if it's IP restricted to the US/Canada.

so my actual kindle is busted, and i've been reading on my app. i bought CoT and the prologue here, but i guess i need to "sideload" it in to the kindle app on my phone. so far this hasn't been a success. i would never ask for a refund, but if i can't get this to work, i will no longer use this store. any pointers will be appreciated.

edit. disregard. after not opening the app for a couple days, the book mysteriously decided it wanted to work. haha, guess my money can stay here.

If you have a Kindle, just connect it to web on the D-Day. If you want to download the prologue on pc, go to your amazon account and it will give you option for that.

I appreciate and share your enthusiasm, but don't demean those that make the choice not to buy this.

Thank you Schaffer, couldn't have said it better myself. Nailed it!

    Hey all,

I do not know if this is a mistake or what but, I purchased the Prologue for my tablet (via Kindle) and late last night i found the entire prologue downloaded. At first I thought it was some type of bad joke but, as i quickly scanned through the e-pages i found out it was for real!

I do not want to reveal spoliers, so where can I go to discuss this? I could not sleep last night after reading this, there are a couple of major reveals and some heroic moments from secondary characters that....I must stop.

    So, where can we discuss?

So I'm probably just an idiot... But how do I start the download? I bought the book when it was announced and I just can't see where to do the actual download.

I just found it... Click on your name in the top right corner, go to Client Area and then to Purchases and then there is a link to download the book! Enjoy!

I'm based in the Republic of Ireland and have an Irish-issued Visa card registered to my PayPal account. I gave an American billing address (an address I lived at in Cape Cod fifteen years ago on a working vacation), paid via PayPal and am sitting here in my bed in Dublin about to read the prologue. Happy days. Hope it works for others based outside the US & Canada. I'm sure the address doesn't matter as long as it exists.

If it works, do it! (and of course post here to let others know it worked)
