A Memory of Light Cover Art

Jason Denzel

Tor Books has revealed the official cover art for A Memory of Light, the fourteenth and final Wheel of Time novel.

Click the image shown here for a larger version, or click here for the full resolution version where you can see Rand in all his 300 dpi glory.

The artwork is by renowned artist Michael Whelan. Mr. Whelan was commissioned to do this cover after Darrell K. Sweet passed away. He will be the Guest of Honor at next year's JordanCon V convention.

So, what do you think of the cover? Rand looks pretty awesome, huh? Tell us what you think in the comments below!

A Memory of Light will be released in hardcover and audiobook on January 8, 2013. The eBook will be released a few weeks after that.

She's interacted with Rand numerous times true, when she hoped to win him back. When she learned about Avienda that - at least seemingly - ended, and every glimpse we've had of her as Cyndane, any mention of Rand has triggered at least an apparent desire to pull him down and to see him suffer.

Of course it could all be a ploy but it being her down in the Pit along with Rand at least -seems- to be coming out of the blue. Then again, RJ did love his surprises but...I just feel he's been setting up Nynaeve for something significant beyond what she's already done. Looking forward to finding out tho, just too bad I can't spend my christmas holidays reading :P

nynaeve doing something significant? like healing the unhealable(severing/gentling... madness... etc)? like cleansing saidin?

i cant see rj having a character, like lanfear, with nothing more to do than baiting rand for TG...

"setting up Nynaeve for something significant beyond what she's already done"

As I said.

Anyhoo, Lanfear, one of the Chosen, more than central to the story from her role in creating the bore, not to mention heading off the sideline of the Choedan Khal, one of Rand's protectors during the early days and the first to show him the real cost of his unwillingness to harm women. A more central role than many of the other forsaken tbh. But who knows. It could be an interesting twist. Still, there's a dot on her head that suggests it is Nynaeve after all, but, we shall see..

You just love the character of Lanfear and would love to see her in this special role. Moridin would crush her cour'souvra the moment she would betray the DO!

I would like to see her redeemed, but I don't see that happening.

@fikkie77 YUP! :D lanfear is a great character... tho i think she'll escape the coursuvra... mostly because of moghedian :) i think she'll go all kamikazi on moridin, and channeling near your coursouvra has... unwelcome side effects :) freeing lanfear, who then can go to rand...

can it happen... possible... will there be time for it to happen... id say so... would lanfear be able to convince rand to let her help? would lanfear be willing to help? who knows...

will it happen? have to wait till january to be sure...

and as for the single darker pixel on "nynaeves" head... its very possible that its her... im not saying it isnt... but i will say, that the picture, does have other flaws... and rj was always a tricksy fella :P

for example... that pic doesnt show the sword glowing, therefore rands not using it as the angreal it is... therefore he's probably not in the circle with the two women, therefore it could just have been nynaeve to the rescue... theres many circumstances that could have formed the pic... if its even accurate to the story...

No, mark. Cyndane is still the most powerful female channeler, period. Moiraine was barely above average. Your numbers have no basis in WOT reality. I do like the cover, though.

Lanfear is stronger than all Aes Sedai, but she is weaker than some non-Aes Sedai channelers (like Alivia) and Graendal.

@snowball mybad :) i just looked at the ranking scale again(its been a long time)... i was baseing that comment on the comment of one of the forsaken, that cyndane was weaker than lanfear was... i just wasnt aware of the bare power difference between lanfear/cyndane... :)

@fikkie77

lanfear is the strongest female channeler period.

after finnland, cyndane is strong as alivia and stronger than graendal.

i think that lanfear is an amazing charcter, she made books 2-5 so much

more interesting,so much more fun to read.some of her encounters with rand

made me smile,or laugh or nervous lol.

if you read carefully the first books, you'll notice how much respect she gave rand, unlike let's say egwene!!!!

so yes,i like her, actually,i like her a lot lol....

if you're asking if i want to see her in the last battle with rand, you bet i do...

There is no indication that Cyndane is stronger than Alivia/Nynaeve/etc. There haven't been power comparisons between them.

The only comparison that I can think of is below, during the cleansing of Saidin (from the point of view of Cyndane).

Then the woman struck back at her, and she suffered her second shock. She was stronger than Cyndane had been before the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn held her! That was impossible; no woman could be stronger.

I don't recall Alivia being given an angreal before the cleansing (and my quick search didn't find anything on it) but I could be wrong. If she didn't have one, this is conclusive proof that Alivia is stronger than Lanfear, much less Cyndane. If she did have one, that is still not proof that Lanfear/Cyndane is stronger than Alivia.

Grandel has said in one of her POV that Cyndane was stronger than her..

First, Alivia had an angreal and she barely survived the fight. Second, we know for a fact that lanfear was as strong as a woman could be, so how can Alivia possibily be stronger than Lanfear?

Second, we know for a fact that lanfear was as strong as a woman could be,

How do we know this as a fact? Because Lanfear didn't believe it was possible? There's a lot that the Forsaken haven't believed possible that the Aes Sedai have done in this age.

lanfear was the strongest woman we know of... whether someone could outdo her tho... we have no way of knowing :) none of the women of this age and last could, but thats not to say that a woman from another age couldnt...

and yea... i really question that "age of legends" mentality... this age has shown many incredible skills, that they believed impossible... unweaving, healing gentling, healing madness, warder bonding............. will the next age call this age, the age of legends?

I think it's a beauttiful cover. But I don't think that that's Nyn,(always thought she had black hair.) I think that it's Egw. And he's holding the "two-handed" sword like that 'cause he lost his other hand.

@paul p... yea, nyaneve has dark hair :) people think its nynaeve because of the one darker pixel on her forehead, as well as the green/yellow dress... egwene also has longer hair...

the blue woman is clearly moraine... but the green/yellow woman shows physical attributes of many women... nynaeve, egwene, meirin, and prolly others... theres really no way to know for certain until the book is released, or we get an official release

@paul p.

i dont believe its egwene, evidently she is very much against the notion of rand going to shayul ghul to break the last seal,so i dont see her accompanying rand.

soon,in my opinion she will have her hands full with a huge battle at the field

of merrilor.

@jack

i dont believe there will be a battle at merrilor... i think, when egwene and everybody goes to merrilor, the seanchan will use gateways to attack tarvalon... where, mat and egwene will have to attack(and probably destroy) tar valon

well, not tar valon, but the white tower specifically... if that attack happens, the craters in the tower will be negligible compared to when the aes sedai attack the tower...

1. I am a little surprised there is even debate. I figured the women in blue is Moraine and the women in yellow is Alivia (who has blonde hair and has to be there to help Rand die)...both descriptions fit perfect with cover scene. Could be wrong though...

If i HAD to choose the blue women could be Nyneave or Lanfear or even Egwene but guess we’ll have to read and find out.

2. Looks like Rand has his sword and something else at his side. I've heard shadar logoth dagger mentioned and angreal of dull bronze dagger that makes one invisible to the shadow. Could be something else too but looks interesting and significant to me unless it’s there by mistake or just a trivial detail?

3. Eclipse in the background or just the moon at dawn/dusk?

Love this cover though!!

@centerwind... i assume you meant the woman in yellow could be nynaeve, lanfear, egwene or alivia... to which i can only say... maybe?

yea, rand clearly(to my mind) has calendor, and justice... but the dagger, could be the bronze dagger, i doubt its the SL dagger, or, its simply a mistake :) there are a number of other errors in the picture for us to know for certain...

its an eclipse

I hate to ask if you have read all the books to this point but I hope you have. No feeling is what Rand embodies in his path to the Last Battle. And for me this gives me more inspiration for my almost complete death metal Wheel Of Time Album. And of course this is my opinion my friend!

Yes i have read them all to this point and reread/listened too them all multiple times. I would say that Rand "tries" to embody no feeling but he has never really achieved it. He has always had a small part of him that feels and it always comes out even if only to hmself in his head. I like the Death Metal WoT album idea. it fits.

nynaeve wears yellow yes, but she doesnt often wear green... lan likes blue and white... and that dress is clearly yellow and green... she also has short(it got burnt short during her aes sedai test), dark brown hair... but that pic has light brown hair...

alivia has golden hair, with white hilights... that picture has light brown hair...

cyndane has long silvery hair... again that pic has light brown hair

egwene has long dark hair(not as dark as nynaeves)... but that pic has short hair...

the woman pictured there, imo, is either unknown at this time(i doubt) or, another error... moraine is obvious... this yellow woman... needs to be touched up(my bet)
