A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Audiobook Giveaway: The Eye of the World

Dwynwen

Macmillan Audio has partnered with us to bring you an amazing opportunity once again. We are going to give away free copies of each audiobook in the Wheel of Time series between now and when the final book is published.

On the first Wednesday of each month (and on the first and third Wednesdays of the month once we get to the final few books), I will post an audio clip for one of the audiobooks. The book featured in the clip will be the one we're giving away at the time.

As each clip is posted online, we will randomly select three winners to receive either a free digital audiobook download or a free CD. This contest is open to anybody world-wide, but non-US residents can only receive the digital download.

Entering to win is simple. Every time I post an audio clip, I will post a topic for discussion. Just post a response to the discussion question in the comments section of each news article. The winners will be randomly selected from the comments section exactly one week after I post the article.

There can be only one entry per person each time I put up an article. You cannot win more than once for this audiobook promotion.

If you are selected as a winner, I will PM you to notify you and request your contact information. Make sure to check your PMs, because if I still cannot reach you after two weeks from the date of my first PM, your prize will be given to another randomly drawn winner.

This month, we will be giving away a copy of The Eye of the World. Here's a clip from the audiobook: http://www.upload-mp3.com/files/337183_gv2tm/TheEyeOfTheWorld_Ch2webclip.mp3

This month's question is: Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time? You have until Wednesday, March 14 to answer in the comments section. Good luck!

My favorite character has always been and will always be Moiraine. It absolutely killed me when she, you know, went away for a bit.

For a while, my favorite was always Perrin, but since the last few books it's become Mat. I always enjoy reading his chapters.

Thom. Hes the type of person I would turn to to talk when the weight of the world was on my shoulders...

I'd have to say Talmanes. Its impossible to read anything between him and Mat w/o imagining him laughing his ass off behind his dour expression.

Most favorite character? That is a difficult choice to make as they all rank right up there. For today I'll pick Mat...

I've always had a hard time settling on a favorite character. It really depends on where in the series I am and where I am in my life. At times I relate more to Mat, or other times Perrin. And sometimes I just can't get past how amazing Egwene is. The magic of the series, to me, has always been how I could really connect to and care about the characters. Currently I'm at a point where I can't help but loving Perrin in his transformation into a reluctant leader and coming to terms with his relationship with the wolves.

Asmodean was my favorite character, the whole doomed and damned thing kind of appealed to me. I was, needless to say, supremely disappointed when he was bumped off.

Matt is by far my fave. He believe in Chance. He's a valued friend, but doesn't stand for the authority of the stubborn know it all Aes Sedai. He's not fearless, but has the guts necessary to get done what is needed. He's also the less whiny of the group.

I would have to say my favorite character is Verin Aes Sedai. It had to take a lot of guts, courage, intelligence and perhaps a touch of madness to infiltrate the Black Ajah as she did. Must have been hard to do such despicable acts in order to study them and hopefully turn that knowledge against them.

I honestly can't point my finger to one single character. I love the series and every character has his/her place in it. If I had to answer that question (because of some improbable threat), I'd pick Mat, because he is much fun to read....but that just wouldn't be the whole truth.

I discovered WOT in 1996 when I picked up Legends as a good way to view a sampling of work from various authors. Little did I know that inside was a novella, New Spring, that would draw me into a world that would give me so much to look forward to over the next 15+ years. I was captivated from the very first words and immediately went out and bought the first four books. My heart will always have a soft spot for Lan, but Moiraine has and always will be my favorite. I love her strength of will and determination to be the one to find the Dragon Reborn. And I'm so exited to see her role in AMOL. Can't wait!

Matrim Cauthon... This is a boy who, throughout the novels, becomes a man... a man with responsibilities yet vehemently to himself and others. This realization is juxtaposed to the side of him that is still a prankster. I love him for this.

Between Perrin and Mat it's really difficult to decide.

Initially Mat was my favorite, but during the books Perrin really got my attention. After the epic scene, when Mah'alleinir was created, Perrin became the character, that not only accepted his role as a leader, but also realized that his fate is decided and instead of fighting it, he embraced it.

This way Perrin became my favorite character in the books :)

Awesome! Thank you Dwynwen for doing this drawing!

If I had to pick just one of these books to have an audio copy of it would be EoTW because now I can lend it to friends and get them hooked on it! They have no excuses, they don't even have to "read" it LOL. Thanks again!

Thom is definitely my favorite character in this book. He's got the mystery to him. I definitely loved every minute of it!

Egwene for me. Tough choice, with Mat's charisma and Rand's depth (when he's actually present in the storyline), with Cadsuane's dominance or Moiraine's guidance, Nynaeve's nynaivete or Elayne's or Thom's courtly subleties.Egwene's character is a sleeper that really weaves several strains together. She's a leader like Rand and Perrin, a coy diplomat like Thom or Moiraine, a powerful stubbornhead like Cadsuane or Nynaeve, a skilled battlemaster like Lan or Avhienda. Her moral fortitude and sharp strategy shares space with her Aiel-like obedience and stoicism. She has enough politic sensitivity as Elayne, yet innovates and stretches boundaries like Verin or even Mat at times. Her power is as strong as some Forsaken and Nynaeve, yet whe has the will of the Aiel as well. The innocent farmgirl who becomes a legendary Amyrlin Seat... Who else has her diversity?
