A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Audiobook Giveaway: The Eye of the World

Dwynwen

Macmillan Audio has partnered with us to bring you an amazing opportunity once again. We are going to give away free copies of each audiobook in the Wheel of Time series between now and when the final book is published.

On the first Wednesday of each month (and on the first and third Wednesdays of the month once we get to the final few books), I will post an audio clip for one of the audiobooks. The book featured in the clip will be the one we're giving away at the time.

As each clip is posted online, we will randomly select three winners to receive either a free digital audiobook download or a free CD. This contest is open to anybody world-wide, but non-US residents can only receive the digital download.

Entering to win is simple. Every time I post an audio clip, I will post a topic for discussion. Just post a response to the discussion question in the comments section of each news article. The winners will be randomly selected from the comments section exactly one week after I post the article.

There can be only one entry per person each time I put up an article. You cannot win more than once for this audiobook promotion.

If you are selected as a winner, I will PM you to notify you and request your contact information. Make sure to check your PMs, because if I still cannot reach you after two weeks from the date of my first PM, your prize will be given to another randomly drawn winner.

This month, we will be giving away a copy of The Eye of the World. Here's a clip from the audiobook: http://www.upload-mp3.com/files/337183_gv2tm/TheEyeOfTheWorld_Ch2webclip.mp3

This month's question is: Who is your favorite character in The Wheel of Time? You have until Wednesday, March 14 to answer in the comments section. Good luck!

mine is perrin. i love how he is able to speek (and sort of become) with wolves. most people dont know it but a wolf on a coat of arms means that while you may take a beatting you will win in the end. thats something i see in perrin. someone who can take a beatting and yet still come out on top.

My favorite character is Min Fairshaw. All around him there are those who manipulate both events and the people around him for their own purposes while she is the only one FOR Rand for his sake. She keeps him grounded. She helps him hold on to the man he was before all this hell began. I love the way she needles him by calling him "farmboy" and "sheepherder" as it reminds him that beneath it all he is just a man. Her devotion and love are what I admire most and her reward is to have the man she loves tell her..."Min, I NEED you". If a man said that to me in that way....I'd move heaven and hell for him.

My favourite would definately be Nynaeve, especially how she has developed from stomping around Emonds Field to the gal who does what needs to be done for the greater good. She would be the female equivalent to Rand in terms of commitment to the cause

I'm a big fan of Rodel Ituralde. He brought the fight to the enemy Seanchan with no outside help & no help from Aes Sedai. One of the great captains & proves it in every scene he's in.

It's easy to pick Matrim. He does'nt want greatness but is not afraid to run from it when it's upon him or complain about it,only a simple fun game of dice,a nice mug of ale ( of course maybe a good wine if that's what the crowd has going )a nice place to kick the heels up near a warm fire and now a nice snuggle with his wife,Tuon. He was always the one, and still is, who still knows how to kick back and let the dice fall as it may. Things a little to tense,"here I got this badger in this sack. What say we just let this little, mean and now ill-tempered fella go in that crowded square and have a laugh !!"

"Remember how we......"

Mmmm... I'm not so sure who my favorite character is. I've given it a lot of thought over the years, but none pop to mind specifically because of the huge diversity that the books have to offer and..... pfft

Oh well, I guess I couldn't keep a straight face after all

My favorite character is Nynaeve, closely followed by Lan and Mat ^_^

Loial. i love that he's always reading and wants to write down everything he can about the latest ta'veren the Pattern has spit out. his calm, quiet disposition is a nice change to the franetics of the other characters.

Morgase is another favourite, as are Siuan, Leane, Sheriam and Amys. Perrin ranks right up there too. now if only i could talk to wolves and use the One Power, i'd be ecstatic.

ps: i already have book one in audio format, so leaving my comment just because i can, not to win anything (this time around).

dwynwen, can you do a poll?write a list of 20 major characters for us to vote?

Sadly, the site isn't set up in a way that lets us post polls on the front page. If you want, you can start a thread with such a poll in our General Wheel of Time Discussion forum.

I would have to say that Mat is my favorite character. I love how he acts like he wants nothing to do with any responsibility but ends up with more each time we see him.

It will always be Rand and Egwene for me. But more Egwene > Rand. Love egwene, Her journey has been very fascinating. <333

Matrim Cauthon is and alway will be my favorite character. Ever since my older brother started reading the series when I was in middle school and told me I reminded him of that character, I've known he would be, and then when I started reading the series, as Mat grew, I felt like I was growing with him. But we still both hate all the bloody responsibility the world keeps shoving at us.

My favourite character for most of the book has been Perrin Aybara aka Perrin Goldeneyes. I was fascinated by his ability to communicate with wolves and his reluctance for most of the early books to accept it and truely run with the wolves. My interest in Perrin grew much more in the latest book, The Gathering Storm when he finally used his blacksmith skills to forge a power wrought weapon, which has been so brilliantly visualised in the new eBook covers.

Mat Cauthon for me as well. His irreverence for all things never fails to make me laugh, and his sweet, sweet foxhead medallion makes sure no bloody Aes Sedai is going to try and "put him in his place"...most of the time.

Although, all of the characters have their strong and weak points this story is mainly about Rand. I have to go with the main man...Rand al'Thor.

Nynaeve. I think Robert Jordan somehow knew me before he wrote the books, because the similarities between us are uncanny.

I am a die hard Rand fan. I know he's certainly the easiest character to pick, but I also think he's the hardest. He changes so much and he's adrift so much of the series. I always see him as someone who tries so hard to make the best of a bad situation. He's given this incredibly complicated life with very little hope of a good outcome.
