Winter's Heart Audiobook Giveaway!

Jason

Dragonmount is excited to partner with Macmillan Audio to celebrate the release of Winter's Heart on audiobook. Now if that sounds strange to you, there's a good reason. After years of being out of print, the physical CD edition of Winter's Heart --Book 9 of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series--can now be found wherever books are sold. Macmillan Audio is honored to complete the WoT series on audio with this re-release of fan favorite, read by series' narrators Michael Kramer and Kate Reading.

To help celebrate this, check out our very first Wheel of Time video news segment, hosted by Kristen Nedopak:

To celebrate all this new stuff, we're partnering with Macmillan Audio to give away some fun prizes. Our grand prize is a copy of Winter's Heart on audio CD, along with a copy of Towers of Midnight on audio CD and signed by Brandon Sanderson, Harriet McDougal and Michael Kramer. Secondary winners will receive copies of Winter's Heart on audio CD.

To enter, reply to this post with your favorite scene from Winter's Heart. The contest ends at 11:59 PM (U.S. Pacific time) on Tuesday, March 15th. This contest is open only to residents of the United States and Canada. (Sorry, folks.) One entry per person, please. We'll draw the winders from a random selection.

Be sure to visit Macmillan's Facebook page, where they have a dedicated Wheel of Time section.

Very hard to decide! The Cleansing is so enjoyable, yet the Sister Ceremony sticks out so much in my mind and I will say that is my favorite scene. Yay for sisterhood!

Definitely the Cleansing, but I will say that the scene Ms. Nedopak included at the end of the video almost made me rethink that.

Favorite scene? In WH?

“The street out front is filling up with Guards, sheepherder.” A dark wetness stained the left side of Lan’s coat, but his sword was sheathed, proof of who had danced that dance the better. “Time we were on the roof, if we’re going.”

Reluctantly, Rand acquiesces, and they head back to the roof and climb to the peak. Lan’s boot slips, and Rand turns and grabs him, the other man’s weight pulling them both down to the edge of the roof and past, until Lan is dangling into space, Rand above him holding on.

“Let go,” Lan said quietly. He looked up at Rand, his eyes cold and hard, no expression on his face. “Let go.”

“When the sun turns green,” Rand told him. If he could just pull the other man up a little, enough to catch the eave…

Whatever his fingers had caught broke with a sharp snap, and the alley rushed up to meet them.

Gotta be. Bar none.

Woof™.

Forget the cleansing, a scene that has always been stuck in my head is when Tuon wanted to buy Mat's Ashandarei, especially Mat's response.

“I will give you ten times the price you paid,” [Tuon] said. “Name it.”

[Mat] almost laughed. He wanted to, and not for pleasure, that was certain sure. No would you think of selling, just I will buy it and here is what I will pay. “The price wasn’t gold, my Lady.” Involuntarily, his hand went to the black scarf to make sure it still hid the ridged scar that encircled his neck. “Only a fool would pay it one time, let alone ten.”

There is something incredibly true, and incredibly wise, in the way that Aiel custom has woven the process of bonding a dear friend as a first-sister. This scene from the prologue, in which Elayne and Aviendha confirm their deep mutual trust and friendship, is one of those moments that had me thinking, "Robert Jordan sees more simply and more clearly into the human heart than most of us." We should all take a moment to follow the example of this scene to tell our best friends what we most admire about them, and what we find most irksome about them. One Power or not, I think we'll find ourselves with closer relationships afterward. Even with all the epic scenes in this volume, this touching sequence from near the very beginning has to be my favorite.

This is very difficult, WH has so many great bits. Each time I reread, I appreciate it more.

I loved the cleansing (of course), but even it was made of multiple parts. The lead up, with Rand explaining to Cadsuane what he has to do and why he has to do it. (And now that we've heard a quote from Moiraine, 'By the Dragon came our pain, and by the Dragon was the wound repaired.' we can suspect Cadsuane knew that he would have to try.) And for me the grand finale was the collapse of the black dome.

This is a tough one to answer. Though I would have to say it was either the Cleansing of the Source or Mat kidnapping Tuon.

...Okay, it's got to be Matrim Bloody Cauthon. Not quite as flashy as the Clensing, but still a grand laugh from then to when Tuon names Mat her husband.

One of my favourite scenes is 'A lily in the winter'. I also include the portion of the chapter before that when Rand meets Nynaeve again.

I Do Love the Cleansing of the Taint. I waited for that for years.

But I think my favorite is Chapter 17 Pink Ribbons when Mat first meets Tuon and she tries to buy him. Also, after the dice stop he expects one of the Forsaken to leap out of the flames in the fireplace. We later find out that Semirage was already in the room.

While the Cleansing of Saidin was superb, my favorite part of WH was Mat's plan to get out of Ebou Dar. After an entire book without him he was back in top form here.

After cobbling together a pretty darn good plan so many things happen in the last hours that could utterly destroy it, but actually end up helping things in the long run (although we don't know that!). The Queen returns early (and he offers to take her along!), the mad gamble with the Sea Folk Windfinder, Egeanin claiming to Mat's chagrin that she was good at adapting when she found something for Joline's warders to do, Juilin having to reconvince Thera, Mat's hilarious fight with Tuon... Noal showing up just at the right time even though he was the one person Mat forgot about...

I kept thinking 'what can possibly happen next?' and then he unwittingly started a marriage ceremony with the future Empress of Seanchan.

Bravo, Robert Jordan! :jordan:

It's been said so many times already, but the Cleansing had me sitting straight up in my chair with my eyes wide the first time I read it, muttering "omigod, omigod" under my breath. One of Jordan's most epic scenes in an epic series.

Definitely Far Madding. The whole time in there, it was great. I loved having Cadsuane explain everything and actually show remorse for what she was doing, even if it didn't stop her.

Cleansing of the source and the battle that goes on around while it happens just barely edges out the Mat/Tuon scene. Of course ask me tomorrow and Mat might win..
