It looks like a very interesting multi-period event. I do wonder if people were able to explain thediffirences in armor and weapons throughout the ages. From what i can tell, the re-enactors are dressed from early middle ages (850 A.D.) untill 14th century (i saw the jousting pics.)

Speaking about the jousting. I saw the pics you shared on facebook and i know why the riders participating in the jousting kept missing. It was on purpose *nods* The lances do look solid, and usually, for safety reasons, they need to be equiped with break-away tips. In this case, they chose safety over show, which would make sense. It would have been better if someone  would have explained it after the jousting, to sooth the disappointed visitors (who were out for blood)

did they explain what this type of  sword was used for?

From my experience, sword like there date late 14th-15th century. Things like these are armor breakers. The force you create while swinging this would be enough to severly damage armor and hurt, perhaps kill, the soldier in front of you. The tip of the sword, with a good swing, could travel with speeds up to 130-140km/h. Compared to the one-handed sword and shield, this type of longsword would be better suited against armor. You would lack the protection of a shield, so you would be more vunerable to enemy archers.

I was a bit surprised to see that it the event had such a large scope(?). I recognized early medieval costume and outfits from later on. It's nice and refreshing to see all of it in the same place. In the events i have joined people were centered on a century, and sometimes on a period of 50 years.

Did the organizer try to separate the different eras? Or was everybody next to each other?

Also for the hawking, did they also have owls? I have found them to be quite impressive too :)

That looked like so much fun!

Yes... a pooping dog is an action photo...

That bird is amazing.

Why did you not show them how jousting is supposed to be done?

Very nice review, if they do it again you should make a banner/shirt for the Band of the Red Hand and wear it

That IS a really huge sword, even looks like there may be two hand guards.

Wandering thru the place I find this sitting in a tent with no one around!

I was a good rAL and did NOT steal it!

Probably for the best since (1) would be hard to walk away with it without being noticed (2) back in the middle ages you may have lost a limb, or your life, for stealing AND (3) at those kinds of events I'm pretty sure even if someone wasn't at that specific tent their neighbors were looking in on their stuff.  Though I would probably be tempted to pick it up and take a photo with it.

and dont tell me I cant take action shoots!

Sir Fido, didn't I tell you to do thine business before leaving the hobble?

Overall, nice pennants, shields and costumes...  Got any more photos from the event you'd like to share (maybe one with jousting or just knights on horseback)?

They wouldn't let me    said they couldn't afford to be shown up

So those shields make my life... the art work on them is most impressive.

Why are there no horses in this post?!?!?! This is the BAND!!!!

They are coming!  theres more pics AND vid
