I did really poorly on this but only tried once. Can't remember how many. Sub 40 I think. I noticed that when I read I don't usually focus on character names. Tend to glance past them as if characters have names that start with different letters easy to know which is which without properly reading the name. Mind you, harder to do in a series like WoT

I couldn't remember Moiraine's name, was on tip of the tongue. I am ashamed ha ha ha.

I rarely read names either. I see them as a picture. It´s when I have to read it out load or talk to people about them that I learn them.

35-40 is about the number of people a human can realistically be expected to "know." It's one of the bigger flaws of WoT that RJ couldn't keep the characters to manageable levels. It's impossible for anyone to care about so many people. If he'd at least kept to main action to a couple dozen, but no... It was spread out among hundreds. One of the things that leads to so many rereads imo cause the story is difficult to keep sense of.

I don't know. I didn't have trouble keeping track of people. Also if I think about real life, there are at least two, three hundred people that I really know. Not as in, close, but I know who they are and what their background is.

I'm bad with names to begin with, so I really just remember the highlights of more important characters. I get why RJ did it though, so he could show lots of different events happening without the main characters having to be there, but I also get that he got a bit carried away.

For me it´s more about "meaningless" plots than people. Like the Black Ajah hunters - it was interesting but then Verin gave Egwene the list and their plot didn´t mean anything either.

I wish that BS had replaced a lot of new names with old characters in AMoL. We hadn´t heard much of Lyrelle but she got more place than Myrelle for example.

Well, the Black Ajah hunters isn't really different from real life, is it? I mean, it happens that you try something and then you get the solution handed on a platter from somewhere else.
