Socks and a secret lab

Recommended Posts

Me and my daughter had a discussion about teddybears being up during the nights, doing whatever they do, when we are sleeping. We were talking about what they do and what they eat and then we got to this:

F: Aha! That´s what happens to the other sock! They eat them!

T: I thought it was the secret washing machine conspiracy that eats them.

F: No. Don´t you remember that the washing machine is the entrance to your secret lab?

T: Right... I had forgotten.

A perfectly normal family. *nods*

No, no, no. It´s the teddybears. *nods*

Btw. We have now a new teddy friend that I won on a tivoli last week. He looks like a red devil/lion thing with horns. I named him Ba´alzamon.  :baalzamon:

That´s only fair. I guess they need four at a time and I think that their claws might break them all the time. It would be expensive to buy new socks every week.

Well, we can get pretty weird too. Something like five years ago, this happened:

Me: Thats like, a billion (1 000 000 000) seconds!.

My brother: Do you know how long a billion seconds is?

Me (instantly): 30 years.

He: Exactly.

That moment when you both know by heart how long a billion seconds is and don't think it's weird either.

There was actually one time for one of my classes that we had to calculate how much a billion seconds was and then name a few things that were going on in the world a billion seconds ago.

And this happened back in the 90s so we were looking at stuff from the 60s and we were all amazed!

I think that's pretty cool, knowing how billion seconds is

I also once played a game with a friend of his, naming powers of two in turn without having to calculate them. We got to ~2^20.

Why would you want to eat a teddybear when there are so much chocolate in the world?

Well... are there chocolate teddybears? If so, I´m sure they smell and taste chocolate. And perhaps mint. Or banana.

Wow!

I can barely get to 32, it might be stretched to 1024 with some very quick calculations in head...maybe to two or three more numbers but no where near that

Math... sock eating teddybears are so much better.

I thought math was better. It doesn't get dirty.

Now, if I just understood how math got to being the subject to study most for from the subject to study least for, in a few months I might maths.

Now, I have to find my teddy, Banana

Oopsie, accidentally coloured your quote too. That happens when you forget you're quoting and then use Ctrl+A for the colour.

That's awesome.

Btw, do you know what digit does not come in 2^29? A teacher asked that once and we could only get the answer by calculating :P and not by any easier way

Am I allowed to use a calculator?

Oh why even bother.

1 024 * 1 024 = 1 048 576

1 048 576

0 000 512

-------------X

002 097 152

010 485 760

524 288 000

----------------+

536 870 912

It's a 4.

(by the way, second and third of the multiplier were just filling it in: 2^20 and 2^19 with zeroes behind it, while if I had known 2^21 by heart that'd have been simple filling in too).

You are not allowed to calculate it. The solution should be something that you get by applying something instead of calculating.

I mean, I could easily think of what the LAST number is, but that only means I know that there is a 2, 4, 6 or 8 in the number.

    • You can carry water in a metal bucket, or a plastic bucket, or a glass vase, or a ceramic jar. You could scoop it up with a wooden spoon, or a glass bowl, or even a hat.   Just as there are a lot of ways to do the same thing in mundane tasks, there are a lot of ways to do the same thing with the Power.
    • Remember that there's also a fountain in the city that presumably gets water from the lake.
    • Just because she thinks it doesn't mean it's true. Character POVs are not objective truths.   In addition, we don't really know how the Power stacks up. Two women Linking does not double the amount of power available, it only makes the circle somewhat stronger than a lone channeler. However, being stronger means being able to do more things, things you couldn't do before. That's why angreal and circles are useful.   A circle of channelers can easily shield an equal number of unlinked channelers, but if the unlinked channelers attacked the circle from different directions and in different ways, the circle would have a difficult time fending them off, since only one person can control the flows.   So we really don't know how much stronger Nynaeve is compared to the other AS, and how much stronger the circle + sa'angreal makes them. I know there is a ranking listed in the BWB, but those values are not necessarily on a linear scale. For example, is Rand, who is rated 100, only 1% stronger than Demandred, who's 99? We really don't know.
    • Thanks.  Are you aware of any site that has compiled a list (with sources) of what each state is actually doing in plain-English as well as the exact wording used in legalese?  Side Note: Apparently Legalese isn't actually slang.
