Who watched it? What do you think? Was it worth the wait?

I liked getting some back story on one of the "Others"... it was interesting to me that I think in the past the backstory has shown directly how the person ended up on the plane which crashed, last night's was more indirect and we're not entirely sure how she ended up on the Island. Do you think she'll really be allowed off?

For me this episode wasn't completely compelling, but then again, I don't think I am the most rabid Lost fan. I found myself drifting to other channels during commercials and almost forgetting to return to it.

exactly! Although, the next episode makes it look like there will be explosions, that's always fun. I feel like the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle is totally overrated, I miss the other cool-o characters that we haven't seen in a while, it just feels like it's dragging. *sigh*

I LOVED the episode. It was probably my favorite so far. It just had so many twists in it. Juliet + sister, Juliet's ex-husband, HIm getting hit by a bus, her getting into Dharma, Ben + Juliet ship, Alex, Carl/Karl propanda video, Jack + Kate leaving, Jack breaking an artery, Tom waking up during surgery, Jack fixing him, Juliet only having been on the island for 3 years, Juliet killing Pickett.

How can you say that isn't action? Thats a whole lot of plot twists and action for one episode.

It didn't really leave me waiting for the next part in Jack/Kate/Sawyer storyline because it didn't really leave on a cliffhanger, but the next episode is on the beach and it looks amazing.

The thing about LOST is, they always have these twists, and occasionally they're completely mind-blowing, but after a while you get so used to the normal twists it's not that exciting anymore.

I agree, this episode was not so bad. We got a backstory on one of the others and hence learned a little more about what the island is all about. It also tied in with the LOST Arc and the fertility angle of the show.

Sure, I got a little tired of Kate crying the whole episode and Jack always being so noble. And why haven't they noticed a tiny island off the coast before?

I like how the bf was being brain washed. I think this might be something vital in the show. Again, it goes back to the question if this whole island is just something in one of the character's head.

To me it seems like the whole island is about medical experimentation. People mysteriously getting better, mysteriously getting sick, etc. I am sure that the episode planted seeds that will be important later on... particularly when the boyfriend comes back to his senses, I am sure they will learn a lot from him. I just felt like this episode was a little anticlimactic. It was more Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle, more Jack beign the doctor, etc. It was a necessary step in order to get the rest of the story moving, but I wanted something a little stronger to come back to and then it could mellow out a little and then get more intense.

hrm. am I making any sense?

I did like the "others are people too" angle.

The episode you are discussing doesn't air until tomorrow night here. I just completely ruined it for myself.

Oh well. Never mind, eh?

So far with Season 3 I have been bored out of my mind. Season 1 was excellent. Lots of twists, lots of mystery and we didn't have a bloody clue what was in that Hatch! Season 2 was good. Weird but still compelling. Season 3 just isn't. I like finding out about the Others. I like that we're getting a few answers.

But the consistent Jack/Sawyer/Kate storyline is really getting me down. I like those characters but I think the other characters are being ignored for them. I'm a big Locke fan and I want him to get more screen-time because he has so much mystery in his past. Sayid, Hurley, Charlie... they have so much potential and they're being side-lined for three characters who are becoming tiresome. To be honest, I'm a wee bit bored with the whole "I'm Kate and this is another example of what I did when I was a fugitive" back story. I want it to be about all the characters not just those three. Plus, Jack became a bit anal in Season 2 and I can't warm up to him again. ;)

Also, why do they keep killing off my favourite characters? Are characters that are interesting? Ana Lucia was interesting! Shannon was interesting! (Not so much Boone though!) Eko was interesting! Libby was interesting! (And it was very inconsiderate for the writers to let her die just as we thought Hurley was going to get some!). I just sort of feel that yes, we're getting answers but it little drips and unless we get some sort of explanation soon, I'm going to get really bored and probably stop watching.

I get kind of annoyed when everyone is talking about how they get annoyed with the Kate/Jack/Sawyer stuff. They had to do that, because now they are going to connect with the beach ones. From now on we will see a lot more of the beach losties, we just had to get the prelude to that first.

I thought this was a great episode.

I tried to leave the opening paragraph vague, but it might be best to avoid this thread until after watching the episodes :)

Much as I enjoyed learning new things about the Others, I would have loved it if they had broken up the episodes a bit... Ie, show one episode that was mainly Others, and then the next episode be what was happening back at the beach. Though Jack and Kate have been lead characters since the beginning, one thing I liked about the first season is that it was a truly ensemble drama, you never knew who would become an important character next.

I think it is brave to get rid of characters that people like. It might be cool to see where Michael and Walt are now though!

Michael and Walt will definately be coming back I think. Though Michael may be slapped by Jack, Kate and Sawyer *grins*

I can understand that they needed to explain it to us, but we've had what? Two, three episodes this season with the Beach people! Yeah, they need to explain it but it seems to me they've wasted a lot of time developing this plot at the expense of the other characters. I'm fine with the Storyline but I would have found it a lot more interesting if they had included the Beach people in those episodes too!

Exactly Niamh. I feel like they've developed plot at the expense of character... and to me, it doesn't matter how tricksy the plot is, the characters are what keep me coming back to any sort of show or movie.

And yeah, I don't think Michael and Walt are gone forever either, but there would be too many questions answered (and likely new questions started as well) if they showed up now. I'd love to have maybe an episode of what the families of those lost in the plane crash are up to, how they are reacting (granted, many of the characters didn't leave much behind). It would be supercool to see though, and it would be neat if at the end you just saw the back of Michael and Walt walking down a street (if they are backin civilization), if they aren't back in civilization where do you think they are?

It's funny how the Others can not seem to get much right.

1st it was all about Walt and how special the boy was. Then it seems the whole thing was to get the love triangle together and on the second island. Then they let everyone go but the doctor.

Now what will the Lost folks do when they stub a toe? Could Locke or Saide fill in with some knowledge?

I have one question though. If the plane did take off from Australia, it would be reasonable to assume that half of its passengers were Aussies. I have counted 2 Aussie characters who were on the island, both of them chicks. Where are all the other Aussies?

Surely if you had a group of Aussies you wouldnt have to worry about "The Others". They would get tired of the noise we continually made with our beach parties, and leave the island!

Plus, don't you all know how to survive in the wild? Shoot, no one would have died! And Crocodile Dundee coulda taken out the smoke monster no problem :)

ps. I think that one problem with Lost is that they can play off any plot holes as a secretmysteriousresultoftheisland. Which is a pain, because I am betting some of them are just plot holes.

List of forthcoming episode titles with flashback characters. Highlight to read, but obviously beware of SPOILERS.

308: Flashes Before Your Eyes(Desmond flashback)

309: Stranger in a Strange Land (Jack flashback)

310: Tricia Tanaka is Dead (Hurley flashback)

311: Enter 77 (Sayid flashback)

312: Par Avion (Claire flashback)

313: unknown (Locke flashback)

314: unknown (Paolo and Nikki flashback)

More detailed spoilers (exercise even more caution!)

Matthew Fox filmed a movie during the shooting of the next batch of episodes, which affected roughly four episodes. So Jack either doesn't appear at all, or only appears briefly in scenes shot before or after his absence. Jack remains a prisoner of the Others at least up to episode 313. Episode 309 sees Jack meet Cindy and other survivors from the tail section who were kidnapped by the Others.

Penny and her father reappear in 308 in Desmond's flashback. Apparently they may hold the key to Libby's storyline. Libby's storyline will not be fully explained until Season 4 because the characters needed to tell that story (in flashback) are not on the show yet. Penny's search for Desmond forms the basis for the Season 3 finale. I'm guessing she ends up trapped on the island as well and becomes a regular in Season 4.

Episode 311 resolves a lot of the mysteries about the Others. We learn their relationship to DHARMA and Hanso. Sayid asks a lot of questions the viewers have been demanding answers to, and gets answers. This episode also sees the appearance of The Flame station.

Episode 313: we find out how Locke got in the wheelchair. For real. The actor was apparently surprised (in a good way) by the explanation, as he thought it would suck. But apparently it's quite interesting and explains a lot of the remaining mysteries about Locke's character.

Episode 314 apparently explains the importance of Nikki and Paolo to the show. Rumours say that Paolo may be killed off in this episode.

Walt and Michael will reappear, but not until Season 4.

spoilers end.

I liked this episode much better. Ok, partly because I love Scottish accents :) Also, I think I was getting tired of Jack and Kate and Sawyer... seriously! I like Charlie and Claire and Sun way better, love triangles get annoying and boring to me.

Anyhow, what do you think? Did you catch that Desmond was trying to save Charlie before he said that he was? Was his flashback all just a dream? did he really go back in time?
