Over here most regions have a local term for a bread roll.

 

I'm from Nottinghamshire and I say it's a cob. People in Yorkshire say teacake - which is ridiculous as teacakes have raisins in. Lancashire says Balmcake I think. Newcastles has stotties and Liverpool has binlids.

 

It's one of the few regional dialect thingies left in common use, along with every region's own word for a small alleyway between streets.
