PS3 price cut in near future??

In the interest of boosting sales for their troubled next-gen system, Sony is considering dropping the price of the PlayStation 3.

Sony's senior vice president Takao Yuhara revealed that Sony's strategy was to have the games division break even by the end of the next fiscal year. ''Such factors, including price cuts to some extent, are factored in'' to the company's break-even plans," Yuhara told The Associated Press.

When the cuts might happen, and how much they will be is unknown, but one thing is for sure: The whole Sony debate on the internet has becomes a little more interesting. The $600 price tag may be the number one factor that keeps people from purchasing a PS3, so if they were to cut it, maybe Sony-haters would line up for a chance to play a PS3.

So lemme hear it, Sony-haters: How much of a price-break would you need to buy a PS3?

The reason I and I think a lot of people aren't buying PS3 (and why I don't think the 360 will get much more popular soon) is that both of those systems are so obviously designed around High Definition TVs. If you don't already have an HDTV, you feel like you are going to be missing out on all its features (arguably you will be) and therefore you feel like you need to have an HDTV first. Those are still too expensive for the mass of consumers.

It is going to be a very long time untill I get either a PS3 or 360 (if ever) because I won't bother till I have a 1080p HDTV to play it on, and that's not going to happen until large 1080p HDTV's reach $500 which may not ever happen.

Wii on the other hand, I don't feel has to be played on an HDTV. I know it is capable of 720p or whatever, but that might be with upscaling. At any rate I don't feel like I will be missing out, so I do hope to get a Wii.. I have a lot of PC games to play, and there is a lot of cube games I'd like to buy and play yet, so I think I will put a Wii purchase off until the last moment and see how cheap I can get one.

What you say is true, but you can still play some next gen games and not have the nicer TV.

I have not played the Wii but I can not imagine using the numchuck controller is all that great. I am glad ninendo did something different to shake things up, but really I can see so many flaws and getting frustrated when things do not synch up correctly.

The 360 is the best game system out there now as the PS3 is so over priced and has only 1 good game. Plus the community in the 360 is very well done.

Sure, you could, but why in the world would you? You are paying for a video game experience with photo-realistic high def graphics and then not getting to see them...

I think you should save your judgement till you have tried it. I post at another forum with a lot of active members who post in a forum dedicated to games and I haven't heard a single Wii owner or anyone who has played it complain about difficulty with the controller or sync problems... On the contrary, the whole system is designed around making the controls intuitive so that ANYONE, even someone who has never played a video game before, can intuitivey learn the game. You want to hit a baseball? You mimic swinging a bat. You want to bowl? You mimic throwing a bowling ball. You want to fish? You make a casting motion. The nunchuck is a secondary controller that isn't even necasarry on all games, and is another motion sensetive contorller, just with an analog stick and a couple of buttons.

Seriously though, if there were controller problems everyone would have hear about it by now. :)
