Smokin Aces..... the review

My goodness. One of the first indicators I use to judge if a movie is going to be good is the trailers that preceed it. It started with Black Snake Moan... which was the first I had heard of it and it looks bad. It was followed by about three silly movies I can not remember and then we come across The Fuzz. It is by the makers of Shawn of the Dead and has all the same people in the film. I gotta say, The Fuzz is a movie I am psyched about and I will post a link to the trailer in the TRailers later.

Now on to the movie.

Well first let me say.... when you are sitting in the theatre, you should not automatically assume all the seat around you will be reserved. One row back and a few seats over sat this old grumpy man. During the previews, a group of kids came in and sat down... RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. The nerve!!! The man was pissed and said something like "Are you serious". I was somewhat shocked at this outburst and then the man jumped up in anger and left the theatre. I was amused. He did come back during the intro of the movie and sit elsewhere.... but really.... this man was wound tight.

So on to the movie.

Yeah it was garbage. Do not go see it. I know, it is tempting with all the different cast members. It had potential up until about 30 minutes into the film. The plot was thin and I wondered to myself if someone actually read the script before signing on... or if they actually though this would be a good career move.

Anyway, do not go see it. You can thank me later.

I agree, and here are some further reasons why.

Remember how in Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, and the other one who's name I forget right now, but was also good, there were a bunch of weirdo characters and there was a complicated plot and they zoom about introducing people and it's fast paced and a little hard to follow but it's worth it to hear Brad Pitt talk in a Pikey accent and it all comes together in the end?

Well...

In this one the character introductions were getting OUTTA CONTROL. Far too many people introduced, all of it taking too long, not much backstory on why they were involved. A bunch of the people introduced really didn't even have a purpose in the film, and some of the people who weren't introduced probably should have been. Improbable action sequences created just for looks, weirdo excess characters and events. They over-explain the plot twist at the end and underexplain plenty of other stuff.

Personally I thought that the actors did a decent job with the material they were given, and there were some neat characters used, but frankly, there's no reason all those characters had to be used in one movie.

A local radio DJ went to see it and reported that it was one to skip and wait till it is on TNT or something if you really want to see it. Just another excuse for stunts and special FX...

I loved Shuan of the Dead. Simon Pegg is a genius. I'll look forward to seeing this one at some point...

Darn, this was one I was looking forward too. I was hoping it would be similar to Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels or Snatch. But I guess I'll skip it now.

But I will be in line for Fuzz... Simon Pegg could do a remake of a Muppets movie and I'd line up to see it.

I liked the part in the trailer that we saw at the movies saying "from the watchers of every action movie ever made..." (or something along those lines).

Yeah, SA really wasn't even close to Lock Stock and Snatch.
