DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Recommended Posts

Madonna got her Ray of Light. I had once borrowed it from library and copied, which I understand is allright. Anyway I threw away all my copied things and have now bought them. I gain by good conscience without doubt. Oh, one song from that, my favourite song in the day, "why do all the things I say sound like the stupid things I said before;" Skin the song, sorry if I misuse the semicolon in "," my grammar never went that far ("wow," but is it also "bow;" I don't know), I placed it as I would a comma. Yoko Ono's marvellous Approximate Infinite Universe! And Alpomayo, a Peruvian orchestra or band, playing traditional songs of the Andes. And Neljänsuora and Vesa-Matti Loiri. Perhaps to have some by them?!

Classical music, well this is an aria from Mozart's first opera masterpiece, first hit is different, this is from Idomeneo. I have nothing against against popular singers of this day or of say someone.

Anyway their melisma will not do the 36th notes of this aria:

Perhaps I get Mariac Carey after all, but she cannot sing this!

Idomeneo sings:

Saved from the sea I have within my bosom,

a sea more fearsome than the first.

And Neptune does not cease

his threats even in this.

Stern god! Tell me at least:

if my body was so close to shipwreck,

for what cruel purpose

was that wreck withheld?

Listening this day something earlier, choice happened on Ace of Base. I'll put three. (I still haven't found out whether palla päron means peel pears or filch pears; or I've looked and forgotten)

I understand the last was originally as a demo Lucky Luke. I sort of wish that was still, but I hear it so!  Though one can hear it as Luck in Love, which serves the same purpose.

“Looking for a well-built 18 to 30-year-old to be slaughtered”

The Master Butcher [2]

Today I will meet a gentleman
He likes me so much he could eat me up
Soft parts and even hard ones [3]
are on the menu

Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is

It is my part – no
My part – no
There that's my part – no
My part – no

The dull blade good and proper
I'm bleeding heavily and feeling sick
Although I have to fight to stay awake
I keep eating while in convulsions

It's just so well seasoned
and so nicely flambéed
and so lovingly served on porcelain
And with it, a good wine
and gentle candlelight
Yeah I'll take my time
You've got to have some culture

Because you are what you eat
and you know what it is

It is my part – no
My part – no
Because that's my part – no
Yes it's my part – no

A cry will ascend to heaven
It will cut through hosts of angels
Feather-flesh will shriekingly fall
from the top of the clouds onto my childhood

[1] "Teil" means "part" or "piece", but can also be slang for "penis", similar to "thing" in English.

[2] Only present in the single version of the song: This is a direct quote from an online posting made by Armin Meiwes, a man in Germany who found a willing "victim" (Bernd Jürgen Brandes) to slaughter. Before the deed, Brandes wanted his penis cut off, and they ate it together.

[3] "Weiche Teile" is a pun on "Weichteile", which means "genitals" in German.

Lyrics ©2004 Rammstein.

Weiter, weiter ins Verderben
Wir müssen leben bis wir sterben
Der Mensch gehört nicht in die Luft
So der Herr im Himmel ruft
seine Söhne auf dem Wind
Bringt mir dieses Menschenkind

Das Kind hat noch die Zeit verloren
Da springt ein Widerhall zu Ohren
Ein dumpfes Grollen treibt die Nacht
und der Wolkentreiber lacht
Schüttelt wach die Menschenfracht

Weiter, weiter ins Verderben
Wir müssen leben bis wir sterben
Und das Kind zum Vater spricht
Hörst du denn den Donner nicht
Das ist der König aller Winde
Er will mich zu seinem Kinde

Aus den Wolken tropft ein Chor
Kriecht sich in das kleine Ohr
Komm her, bleib hier
Wir sind gut zu dir
Komm her, bleib hier
Wir sind Brüder dir

Der Sturm umarmt die Flugmaschine
Der Druck fällt schnell in der Kabine
Ein dumpfes Grollen treibt die Nacht
In Panik schreit die Menschenfracht

Weiter, weiter ins Verderben
Wir müssen leben bis wir sterben
Und zum Herrgott fleht das Kind
Himmel nimm zurück den Wind
Bring uns unversehrt zu Erden

Aus den Wolken tropft ein Chor
Kriecht sich in das kleine Ohr
Komm her, bleib hier
Wir sind gut zu dir
Komm her, bleib hier

Komm her, bleib hier
Wir sind gut zu dir
Komm her, bleib hier
Wir sind Brüder dir

Unofficial Translation ©2004 Jeremy Williams.

An airplane is in the evening wind
On board is a man with his child as well
They sit secure and warm
and so they fall into the trap of sleep
In three hours they will be there
for mama's birthday [2]
The view is good the sky is clear

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
Humans don't belong in the sky
So the lord in Heaven calls
his sons to the wind
Bring me this human child

The child has still lost time
Then an echo jumps to his ears
A muffled rumbling drives the night
and the driver of the clouds laughs
He shakes the human cargo awake

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
And the child says to the father
Don't you hear the thunder
That's the king of all the winds
He wants me to become his child

From the clouds falls a choir
which crawls into the little ear
Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

The storm embraces the flying machine
The pressure falls quickly in the cabin
A muffled rumbling drives the night
In panic the human cargo screams

Onwards, onwards into destruction
We must live until we die
And to God the child pleads
Heaven take back the wind
Bring us unharmed to earth

From the clouds falls a choir
which crawls into the little ear
Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

The father is now holding onto the child
and has pressed it tightly against himself
He doesn't notice its difficulty in breathing
But fear knows no mercy
So with his arms the father
squeezes the soul from the child
Which takes its place upon the wind and sings:

Come here, stay here
We'll be good to you
Come here, stay here
We are your brothers

[1] The Dalai Lama is the most powerful figure in the Gelugpa or Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. The current one, Tenzin Gyatso, is also afraid of flying.

[2] The word "Wiegenfest" is used, which is an old word for "birthday", but literally translated would be "cradle celebration".

Note: The song is at least partially based on the poem "Erlkönig" which was written by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1782.
