Blank smiled at the suddenly shy Tyler.

 

"Yes, it's goodbye for now but we can see each other soon though? We've got a heck of a lot of Randland still to explore together."

 

Blank gave Tyler a big hug and opened the front door, "Thanks for walking me home, I know Kent is quite far away from Glasgow but there's a super secret notatall made up Portal to Kent just round the corner there. You didn't think I'd make you walk all the way home?" She winked at him and walked into the house.

 

She watched him from the window as he disappeared back into the stop questioning the validity of these Portal to Kent with a big grin on her face. She'd had a lovely time.

Via waited impatiently for the gateway to open. She had been waiting eagerly for this day with Kronos, and was so excited that they had been granted permission for this trip. She hefted the basket she was carrying, juggling it with the hefty stick she also held, and grinned nervously at Kronos, hoping he was looking forward to this too! At last the gateway snapped opening, and she peered at the scenery beyond. Kronos went through first, his warder training showing. He would probably need that training on this trip! She nodded thanks to the Aes Sedai who had opened the gateway, made a last adjustment to her fresh white novice dress, and stepped through.

Kronos waited patiently by Via. His warder training was paying off in that he could at least show some calm on the outside, but inside he was excited. It was not everyday that you had a date like this one. The gateway opened and Kronos jumped through first, unsheathing his blade as he did so. Today, he was going to have a picnic with Via, but first, he had to slay the Trollocs. The picnic would be in the Blight.

 

Kronos ran forward, heading towards the first Trolloc. The trolloc was caught off guard and Kronos easily dispatched, but the rest of them wouldn't be so easy. Kronos looked at the shadowspawn as their attention came to him. The fun was about to begin.

Via could see that Kronos would be kept busy for a little while yet, so she set the basket down at their chosen spot and opened the lid. First she pulled out a large blanket and spread it on the ground, and put the four weights she had brought on the corners. Keeping one eye on Kronos - to watch him gracefully move through the forms as much as to watch out for stray shadowspawn - she reached in and brought out the bottle of sparkling juice and glasses. Next came the sandwiches she had made earlier, a few pieces of fruit and a plate of fresh cookies.

The trollocs began approaching and Kronos bent down to pull a hidden throwing knife from his boot. As he stood, he launched the knife at an approaching trolloc, hitting it in the eye. Kronos moved forward, approaching the trollocs, but allowing his eyes to go back and forth between Via and the Trollocs. His job as a Warder was to protect her, and he didn't want any Trollocs to start going after her. Two trollocs approached him, and Kronos impaled the first one. He brought his foot up to the trollocs chest and and kicked it off of his sword and into the trolloc behind him. Kronos stabbed that one while on the ground. He expected another one to come. Wasn't there another one? Fear settled in as realization hit that one might have gotten through his defenses and was heading toward Via. Kronos pulled out another throwing knife and turned towards teh picnic area.

While Kronos Was fighting Via was arranging their food and setting out the plates- they might be in the blight but they could still be civilised! Glancing up she saw that a Trolloc had somehow made it through Kronos' defence of their picnic area. She pushed back her fear and reached for the stick ( more of a club really ) that she brought in case of just such an event. She planted her feet as Kronos had taught her ... and swung..... The club connected and the trolloc fell. She saw that Kronos had nocticed the trolloc, and noded to reassure him that she had come to no harm. Humming to herself and smiling slightly, she put the club down and pulled out two cushions from the bottom of the basket.

Kronos turned and saw the Trolloc going towards Via. Not on my watch, Shadowspawn! Kronos thought bringing up the throwing knife. Suddenly, the Trolloc fell and Kronos saw Via holding a club. He smiled at her, a warm light coming into his eyes as she nodded at him. He put the knife back into his boot, and walked forward, stabbing the trolloc.

 

"You can never tell with Trollocs," he told her. "It is always best to make sure they are dead. I'll take care of the trash and then let's get this started proper." He gave her his best smile and picked up the dead trolloc.

 

Coming back he saw Via sitting down on the blanket. He used a towel he had brought to clean his blade and removed his blood splattered cloak and sat down to join her.

Via smiled across at Kronos, tucking in to her food. She noted with approval that he had cleaned his blade and tidyed himself up before joining her. It was nice to get a chance to speak to him away from the Tower: there was always chores or training or lessons to call their attention. But here they sat and talked, about their lives before the Tower, and what they hoped for in the years to come. The conversation and jokes flowed freely, and the afternoon drifted on. she found Kronos funny and kind, and was impressed with the dedication that came through when he talked of his warder training. Via was very pleased the trip had gone well, and was looking forward to more stories shared with Kronos.

Kronos was really enjoying her company. They had just been talking and getting to know each other a little bit better. Both told jokes and both laughed. Light, she is really pretty when she laughs, Kronos thought. The food was excellent and time went by way too quickly. Before they knew it, the gateway back to the tower opened. Kronos frowned for the first time since coming. The time was too short. He looked back at Via, smiled, and said "We will have to do this again sometime, I really enjoyed it."

 

Kronos helped Via pack up and took the basket. He offered her his arm and escorted her back to the Novice Quarters in the tower. They continued to talk through the Tower. This would be the beginning of a good friendship.
