Dnt celebrat christma s becuse guss Im dirty heathen :P. Celebratd th winter solstic becuse thats beginin of our new year besids its festivl for th god/power of Time.

christmas is the only holiday my family ever celebrated when i was a kid, after the passover debacle of 68.  think of it more as american than anything else.  and that little fake tree was so pretty. miss it. 

 

i'd be celebrating it now if the humans weren't all gone away.  got them teh presents and made happies.  cooking and baking all day for when they get back.

 

wish they'd stay. i'd have cooked for a week, slaughtered and roasted 4 or 5 beasts for sure. 

 

ahhhh yes the grinch...

 

i will turn on the TV today for the first time in months.  love the christmas TV.

 

less depressed than i'd expected... how odd.

but yay, a christmas story!  

 

gonna watch that, the hebrew hammer, the grinch 66, a few christmas carols, love that movie, those movies.... willie wonka woo hoo!, and it's a wonderful life at least once.

 

made pork BBQ cause when the humans get back they will want something different, and bean soup with the bone... and probably do some grilled chicken, it's marinating now.

 

i'm really in the mood to do the whole roast turkey and sweet potatoes and apples and cranberries,,,, i might.  trying to fight the urge by baking brownies and cookies but... feeling a strong desire to do the bird feast... and one set of neighbors i think would appreciate the extra food. they put a new roof on this fall and they don't seem to have a lot to spare right now.

Yeah, it's ok though. I saw my parents yesterday and my dad still isn't fully recovered so I don't want to bother them too much. My mom made prime rib yesterday...yum!

 

I'm not sure what I'm watching next, maybe Scrooged. 

 

I just started to chill some wine for the afternoon. :)

no socialization outside the interwebz and work for any of the holidays this year but doesn't matter.  i'll call home later and... it will be the most difficult part of the day.  

 

but the wine will make it all better :)

What holiday treat goes well with vodka?

what doesn't?

 

vodka is a complete neutral, so you can either have it straight, with anything, or use something complimentary as a mixer; like if you're having cranberry sauce, cranberry juice and/or OJ.

 

but always good for a shot straight from the freezer as is if it's good vodka.

 

or... wonderful base for any holiday punch and spikes the eggnog quite well besides, if you go for eggnog.

 

you know what's better than egg nog?

 

melted vanilla ice cream with liquor of your choice.

it's a real good thing the stores are closed today....

 

i would be doing very bad things and... the cookie dough is way bad enough...

 

haven't eaten anything except maybe a teaspoon of dough today and i'm about done...

I opened the wine, and I have some chocolate liqueur that I'm having with hot chocolate later. MMM. 

 

Ham is in the oven and the potatoes have been started.

they used to feed me egg yolks whipped with cream, sugar, melted butter and cinnamon when i was little for failure to thrive lol.... worked real well.  can't stand the stuff now.  maybe if they'd whiskeyed it up...

 

mimosa sounds good... i might cook for a local place next year...i like doing for the neighbors but they might not need it by then.

 

and just got off the phone with aunt jean,98, who was much more chatty than usual so.... opening another bottle of wine before i attempt the rest of the family.  mom's got her email spam on so... gonna be a loooooong talk.

I also celebrate the Solstice, so my holiday is all done. Today the kids are at their dads, celebrating Christmas, and I have a lovely day to myself. So far, all I've done is play video games.
