New Spring is alike the other books, though it pretends the later books never happened(easy enough for a prequel)

Whaaa? It's straight up WoT and is as much Canon as the rest of the series. Its a must read I say.

I like reading background information about stories. I read the Appenices for LotR also. Anything that gives an additional perspective to a series you already enjoy should be read. Apart from the Hobbit ... I tried it and just could not get into it at all.

I've tried several times to read The Hobbit. It just refuses to hold my attention.

I seem to recall reading the Hobbit some 20 years ago, was young enough to wonder whether I really read it or do I remember what happens in the book somehow else. Can't imagine what the else would be, besides now I recall leafing through silmarillion or such too then. But I've become such a lazy reader nowaways, with stacks of books around I could read, that I'll settle for what I can remember of it. Even forgot in which book I was in aSoIaF..., three of which are on the table...
