The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose in the Mountains of Mist. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.

 

We all know these words by heart... and yet... depending on which book they come from, they invoke very different emotions. It is now time for the battle of the books. Eye of the World vs. Lord of Chaos vs. Towers of Midnight.... some books have severely disappointed us, some books have restored our faith...

Rules:

 

1. This is a Hammer Game. That means that when a majority of votes have been cast on one player, the day will end and all voting and unvoting will no longer be counted.

 

2. In the case that no consensus is reached before deadline, the game will revert to a deadline format. This means that whoever has the most votes when the deadline is reached, will be lynched.

 

3. If there is a tie at deadline, the person who is lynched will be randomly decided.

 

4. All votes must be in Bold Red.

 

5. There will be no quoting of roles or other private communications concerning this game.

 

6. Do not reveal your characters. The theme is for a fun backdrop for scenes and whatnot, but won't interfere in with the game.

 

7. If you feel it appropriate to reveal your role, you may. However, do not quote your role PM.

 

8. There will be no communication outside this game thread about this game except when I've specifically authorized you to do so.

 

9. No self votes.

 

10. No "No-Lynches"

 

11. Do not edit your posts.

 

12. Days will be approx. 3 days., Nights approx. 24 hrs.

 

13. Once you are dead, you may post a bah post after the fact then no more posting on thread please.

15. Don't reveal the consequences of a NA if you have one before a Day scene is posted. Once you receieve your response, day should come quickly, but sometimes something comes up and I'm not able to post it immediately.

 

16. This is a game. Everything that occurs in this thread is part of the game. If someone is pushing your buttons, take it as in-game play only. If you find something truly offensive, please PM me and we will work it out behind the scenes with the offender. Keep anything on thread pure game.

Note: While this game is 95% basic, I do like to make sure the possibility of some variance from the standard model is known. Without it, it severely limits the ability for folks to make fake claims if they wish to do so. This does not mean this game has odd roles. It only allows for the possibility one or two might exist. I will adhere to the basic model of no recruiting or overly complex roles.

EOTW has some great Rand/Mat moments but the story is very...disconnected from the rest of the series

TEoTW: It's the one that draws you in, gives you that familiar Tolkien vibe to make you feel comfortable, then shatters it at the end and let's you know this is something unique.

Actually it felt pretty generic

It did turn some tropes on it's head but to be perfectly honest I wasn't aware of "tropes" when I first read EOTW so that sort of thing kind of went over my head

The biggest development stage for the characters imo is in TDR, at least for Mat and Perrin. After the Healing scene I had to close the book for a second and I was like "s*** just got real."

The Shadow Rising is the best book of the series...the first or second time around

After that it just becomes "the info dump" book

Seriously it was well written and everything but 95% of the suspense and thrill is gone after reading it for the Xth time

It's a necessary and incredibly enjoyable book even after you've read it a bunch of times but it's definitely not the book I'd want to be
